Pink Joins City And Colour During L.A. Concert

Posted by @coltondaniel on November 4th, 2011

Pink, the pop mega-star, and Dallas Green from City & Colour (R.I.P. Alexisonfire) joined forces at the Orpheum in Los Angeles on Thursday night. It was a collaboration that was inevitable.

Okay, maybe not. But, it’s result is something eargasmic. The two performed a haunting duet of Green’s ‘What Makes A Man’ from his 2008 Bring Me Your Love album.

Pink harmonized perfectly, with just the right amount of raspy deliverance. Green later called the collab “best moment of my life,” on his Twitter. She shared her own Twitter love for City & Colour back in January 2010, after seeing one of his shows.

Looks like Green’s decision to leave Alexisonfire in August to pursue City and Colour full-time wasn’t a bad decision.

Alexisonfire Breakup is Bitter

Posted by andPOP Staff on August 6th, 2011

St. Catharines, ON band Alexisonfire is calling it quits after 10 years together. However, the breakup is not what can be called “agreeable.”

The band announced their breakup via their website. Lead singer George Pettit posted a note explaining the situation. Some of the highlights of the note include:

- ”After 10 years, Alexisonfire has decided to part ways,” he wrote. “Was the break-up amicable? Not really. Was it necessary? Probably.”

- ”Regardless, the members of this band are my family and I wish them nothing but good fortune.”

- Dallas Green wanted to leave to focus on his solo project, “City and Colour.” ”Trying to balance his life between touring with us and at the same time quelling the success of City and Colour was a task too difficult to continue managing,” Pettit wrote

- ”I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to the fans of Alexisonfire around the world. I’m forever grateful to anyone who has ever taken any interest in what we did. You were the coal that stoked our engines. You have given us a spectacular decade, rich with experience and joy. I love you all.

Sad to see such an amazing Canadian band breakup, but nevertheless we did get to see a solid decade with the band.

City and Colour Debuts New Single, ‘Fragile Bird’

Posted by @coltondaniel on April 5th, 2011

The true Canadian songbird Dallas Green will release his third solo album ‘Little Hell’ on June 7th, but today we were offered a taste with the first single: “Fragile Bird”.

Green recorded the follow-up to Bring Me Your Love over the winter at Saint Catherine North Studios in Hamilton, Ontario with Alex Newport (Death Cab for Cutie, Mars Volta). The new LP explores the high-points and the hellish moments of a relationship and echoes the intimate acoustic rock that made Green Songwriter of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards.

‘Fragile Bird’ delivers a Black Keys vibe with the use of heavily fuzzed-out guitars clanging against a tambourine backbeat. Save your scissors fans, there is still the same-old high soaring vocals delivered by Green. And what? Is that a guitar solo?

City and Colour performed a tribute cover of Neil Young’s ‘Old Man’ at this year’s Juno Award’s and are currently touring around the world.

‘Fragile Bird’ will be available on iTunes on April 12th.

But for now, listen to ‘Fragile Bird’ here. Enjoy!

New City & Colour Album ‘Little Hell’ Coming June 2011

Posted by @coltondaniel on February 23rd, 2011

Dallas Green tweeted at 3:19 p.m. that a new City and Colour album, entitled Little Hell, has been confirmed for release set for this June…

cityandcolour Dallas Green:
LITTLE HELL – new @
cityandcolour album coming June 2011. check out the cover art here: http://bit.ly/fdmJTX

The follow up to 2008′s Bring Me Your Love has been in production over the past year and a website was created for fans to follow Dallas. It includes photos, video clips and blog updates of the recording process. The sessions have taken place at Hamilton, Ontario’s Catherine North Studios; a church-turned studio where the last album was also recorded.

Dallas reported in late January that the album’s material will be split between a full ensemble and songs that were “with just me and a guitar”. Also, everything has been recorded in analog, instead of computers or Pro Tools, to create the texture and intimacy that was familiarized on the other City and Colour albums.

So save your scissors fans, it doesn’t sound like it’ll be too different.

Dallas also posted the artwork for Little Hell on his website this afternoon, check it out here.
