On Friday, Black asked her 158,000 YouTube subscribers, “So, you know what today is, right?” She later explains that “Friday” would be making its triumphant return to YouTube.

The video was forced to be taken down after Ark Music launched a copyright battle over “Friday.” It seems both sides have reached an agreement, and “Friday” will continue to live on YouTube.

So to celebrate, here’s “Friday”.

Posted on andPOP:

We hope you haven’t been looking for any Justin Bieber music videos on YouTube today. If so, you will see the videos have been removed for a copyright claim.

It seems a YouTube user got all of the Biebs videos pulled by submitting a copyright claim. The user, iLCreation, submitted a copyright claim on each of Bieber’s videos, including the “Baby” video which has over 600 million views, reports TMZ.

Although everybody knows this is bogus, YouTube automatically pulls videos if there is a copyright claim.

Vevo, who delivers music videos over YouTube, says ”Someone is making false copyright claims against the Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga channels and YouTube has blocked access to the videos as a result. We are working with YouTube to resolve ASAP.”

This is pretty funny, you have to admit that.

Downloading things illegally is, well, illegal. But is this for real?

The producers behind the Oscar-winning (including Best Picture) film, The Hurt Locker, have filed a suit against 5,000 BitTorrent users for illegally downloading their movie, reports perezhilton.com.

The producers started the crusade a few months ago, but it has now become official. All 5,000 users will be handed subpoenas for violating copyright laws. Voltage Pictures is seeking $1,500 settlement from each person. They also warn people that if they do not settle, the company will go after them for 10 times as much when (if) the case goes to court.

An official list of offenders has not been given to Voltage Pictures, but they do have the IP addresses of the accused.

All we can say is that hurts.

Posted on andPOP:

A US Supreme Court has ruled file sharing networks are liable for copyright infringement performed by those using their services.

Monday’s court decision in the MGM vs. Grokster case states file sharing software encourages users to illegally distribute copyrighted material on the internet.

“We hold that one who distributes a device with the object of promoting its use to infringe copyright, as shown by clear expression or other affirmative steps taken to foster infringement, is liable for the resulting acts of infringement by third parties,” said Justice David Souter.

As a result, services such as Grokster and Limewire can be sued for copyright infringement.

In earlier cases, programs such as Grokster were compared to VCRs, something that provides a medium of exchange.

The entertainment industry sees this announcement as a major win in its fight against illegal music and movie downloaders.

However, the ruling comes as a blow to groups who support peer-to-peer file sharing.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Parliament is working on its own law to address digital copyright issues – Bill C-60. If passed, the law calls for users, not service providers, to be liable for copyright infringement.

Look for more news on Bill C-60 after the Parliament’s summer recess in the fall.
