Microsoft’s Wireless Explorer Mini Mouse – Mac

Posted by Rick Levine on March 12th, 2009

Microsoft wireless Explorer MouseMouse technology is an ongoing game of leap frog. Every so often a new mouse product arrives which introduces some kind of new technology – how much better can the ‘mouse’ be improved? Apple’s ‘Mighty Mouse‘  for the Macintosh, was oddly innovative by re-positioning the old ‘mouse ball’ on the TOP of the mouse to allow for additional navigation options. However, after a couple of months of use, the good old little mouse ball on the TOP will stop functioning in the UPward direction and it is next to impossible to clean it to get it working properly again. Until Apple figures out a way to resolve this sticky ball problem with the Mighty Mouse, I am  trapped into hunting for a better mouse.

Microsoft markets no less than 30 mouse products (meese? mices?), only several of which are labeled as compatible with Macintosh. The new Microsoft Wireless Explorer Mouse with BlueTrack Technology* is available in two sizes – a big one just called the Microsoft Wireless Explorer Mouse (to which I may refer to in this review as the ‘desktop’ model) and a smaller lighter ‘cousin’ for traveling laptop users labelled as the Microsoft Wireless Explorer MINI Mouse. With its virtual tours, photos and specs, the Microsoft Mouse webpage provides a thorough description of all products, but nothing replaces a ‘hands on’test drive. Review: Gateway One

Posted by Josh Salem on May 26th, 2008

Ever get the feeling that technology is out to get you? No, not all things digital, that would be crazy. What I’m talking about is the Gateway all-in-one computer, accordingly named One – and it’s out to get me. I’m not sure if it’s all One systems, or only this one, but while it works well, looks amazing and delivers exactly what it promotes, this bad boy is evil and wants my blood. When I received the package, I got a paper cut opening the box. Then I find all the accessories requiring batteries come without them. Every time I try to turn the system on or off, it shocks me, and only me. I’ve tried getting friends to turn it on or off for me, and they don’t get a zap. This PC does not like me, but I like it.

The Gateway One is an all-in-one system, meaning when you purchase it, you’re good to go right away. Much like the iMac, the screen casing also holds the computer system, so there is no tower to worry about. Also, we are given a webcam attachment that sits on top of the screen, a wireless mouse, a keyboard, a remote control, a power box (complete with extra ports), and a television cable input converter to watch TV on your monitor. Delivered with Windows Vista Home Premium and the complete windows media package, all you have to do is choose where you want the One to be, plug it in and turn it on. (more…)

Apple: 21 Million iPods and $1 Billion in Profit

Posted by Daniel Levine on January 17th, 2007

In a conference call Wednesday, Apple, Inc. reported a revenue of $7.1 billion for the first quarter ended December 30, 2006. The results represents a 25 percent increase over the year-ago quarter’s results of $5.7 billion and a record-breaking profit of $1 billion.

Apple impressively shipped 1.6 million Macs but an even more impressive 21 million iPods, a 50 percent growth from the year-ago quarter.

“We are incredibly pleased to report record quarterly revenue of over $7 billion and record earnings of $1 billion,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
With such strong earnings, Apple is certainly excited for the upcoming year. Just over a week ago Apple announced two brand new products, Apple TV and the iPhone, which will be shipping next month and in June, respectively.

“We’ve just kicked off what is going to be a very strong new product year for Apple by launching Apple TV and the revolutionary iPhone.” Steve Jobs highlighted his keynote address at MacWorld by introducing the much hyped iPhone, which combines a cell-phone, iPod and internet communicator.
In other Apple related news, the conference call also revealed some scarce details on Apple’s upcoming operating system, Leopard, which was not at all mentioned at MacWorld. According to Apple it’s still slated for a spring ’07 release.
