Conan O’Brien Comic Book Introduced – ‘FAME: Conan O’Brien’

Coco has a new comic book coming out called FAME: Conan O’Brien. The comic was produced with Bluewater Productions and goes on sale in August.

Comicbookresources.com reports the comic will focus on Conan’s amazing life, from writing for SNL, producing The Simpsons, and his short-lived stint as host of The Tonight Show. Understandably millions of Coco fans will want to get their hands on this comic.

“Working on Conan O’Brien was a dream come true,” says writer CW Cooke. “My co-writer Patrick McCormack and I dug deep to learn everything we could about this red-haired jokester that I’ve been a fan of for as long as I can remember.”

“Conan O’Brien is America’s Sweetheart. He won our hearts by being gracious and open after public turmoil fell on him. But he didn’t let it get him down. He kept telling jokes, kept being funny, and kept being who he always was: someone who made us laugh.”

A Conan O’Brien comic book could be kind of cool, and it’s definitely unique. We will have to wait and see how it turns out.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, ‘The Governator’ is Here to Stay

Arnold Schwarzenegger has proven to be a very multifaceted individual. He got his start as a body builder afterwards he came to Hollywood and became instantly famous for his dark role as The Terminator. After a string of successful films, Schwarzenegger made the leap from box office to public office when he became the governor of the state of California.

After heading out on the campaign trail and winning the election, Schwarzenegger became known as the “Governator” by all. It started out as a running joke, but now that joke will be turned into a cartoon superhero. Stan Lee, the man behind Spider-man, is co-developing an animated TV show starring the title character.

Although the show will not be out until next year, Stan Lee sat down with EW.com to discuss the new project he said, “We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

The cartoon will also feature recurring villains, an advanced armory of weapons, and of course lightning speed vehicles equipped for fighting crime. I wonder what his personal motto and phrases will be. They can’t use “I’ll be back” but surely it will a pun of sorts.

Schwarzenegger is thrilled to be the inspiration for such a comic. This is satire at a whole new level.

Dark Horse to Turn Mass Effect into Comic Book

A little plesent coversation in the midst of total destruction.

EA and Dark Horse have announced a new comic series called Mass Effect: Redemption. The narrative will bridge the gap between the first and second video games. Commander Shepard must fight for survival away from his crew on the Normandy while his close companion, Dr. Liara T’Soni, tries to bring him back.

The Mass Effect: Redemption story is written by Mac Walters, the script writer behind Mass Effect 2. He will no doubt bring some unique insight and depth to the Mass Effect universe. The comic is scripted by John Jackson Miller (Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, The Invincible Iron Man) and drawn by Omar Francia (Star Wars Legacy). The first four-part series explores the exotic and dangerous future Milky Way, and promises brand new locations and aliens. Walters and Francia were on hand today at the San Diego Comic Con. ”Fans of Mass Effect are going to be pleasantly shocked by the events in these comics,” said Walters. “We worked very closely with Dark Horse to make sure this story was built into the Mass Effect 2 arc, right from the ground up.”

Mass Effect: Redemption issue #1 hits comic shop shelves on January 6, 2010. The eagerly anticipated Mass Effect 2 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PC in early 2010.

Activision, Image Team-Up on Singulary Comic Book

Activision is teaming up with a crew of industry veterans at Twistory Studios and Image Publishing. They’ll be publishing a comic book based on the upcoming game Singularity.

The team includes David Atchinson, of the Occult Times Taskforce, Davide Fabbri, with credits from Heavy Metal and Dark Horse’s Star Wars, Christopher “mink” Morrison, whose work includes Dark Horse’s upcoming Shinjuku with Yoshitaka Amano, and Tom Mandrake, renowned artist of Batman and The Punisher. Atchinson, Fabbri and Morrison are making an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

In Singularity players attempt to unravel a deadly Cold War conspiracy that has fractured the fabric of time itself, fighting their way through an ever-shifting environment occupied by Russian mercenaries and time-ravaged creatures.

The comic will tell the story of the shadowy events off the Russian Peninsula that unraveled time as we know it and ultimately led to ‘the Singularity’. The single issue graphic novel will be available following the launch of the game, scheduled to release in early 2010 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Spider-Man has an equal opportunity costume in Web of Shadows.

Ok, so for the past week or so I’ve been on a Spider-Man: Web of Shadows binge. Nothing but web-slinging through New York, symbiotes and ass-kickery. It has been awesome – definitely the best “comic-book superhero” game I’ve played in some time, if not ever (I wasn’t going to include comic-book just now, but then I remembered inFAMOUS and Prototype). So that got me thinking how many bad superhero games I’ve played. That got me thinking about how much worse those games could have been if they were about even crappier superheroes – I mean, even Spider-Man 3 had Spider-Man in it, right? So, with that in mind, I’d like to present:

5 Superheroes That Should Never Be in Video Games

*disclaimer – if a game has already been made that should contain one of these characters, then there’s no need to mention it – the damage has been done.

5. Ant-Man

The one cool thing Ant-Man ever did.

So, you can control ants. Oh, and shrink yourself? That’s… interesting. I guess those are kind of neat side-powers to your main power of… oh, that’s it. So let’s build a game around a guy who can do all these amazing things. We could have a mission where you ruin a picnic, or have to avoid a kid with a magnifying glass and too much time on his hands. Or maybe just slap together a bad racing game where you either run next to ants, or ride an ant against other ants. I don’t even know if he can control red and black ants or just black ants. You know what, Ant-Man? Just go away.

4. Green Lantern

It's too bad the Green Lantern couldn't use that ring to give himself a set of balls.

Ever had the feeling in a video game that you should be able to do something that you couldn’t? Like not being able to climb something as Spidey or break something as Superman? Well that’s what it would feel like to play a Green Lantern game. Anything that comes my way, I’d have an idea for a “green energy _______” to stop it. Conversely, you or anyone else could come across the same situation and have a completely different way of solving it with your “green energy _______”. It is possible to have too much freedom in a game, but to ever play as Green Lantern you would totally need it.

Also, I hate Green Lantern. Oh, I have a magic ring! Choke on it.

3. Daredevil

Ah, the bright red creature of the night.

Ah, Daredevil – not even mentioning the terrible movie starring Ben Affleck, I’ve never really cared much for the Man Without Fear. Besides the fact that it’s kind of an oxymoron to have a lawyer as a hero of any sort, Daredevil in a game would come across as kind of a Spidey clone without the cool. Swinging and jumping around New York fighting crime isn’t cliched at all, right? Anyway, Daredevil is kind of like a discount Dark Knight – he’s basically a blind, poor Batman with a law degree.

2. Captain Marvel

Way to take every 10-year old's fantasy and use it to be the biggest pansy of all time.

Gradeschool by day, crimefighting by night. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. Captain Marvel is perhaps the cheesiest superhero of all time, with his powers derived from mythological figures (literally) and the word that gives him his power: Shazam! So we basically have Superman, but his alter-ego is a 10 year old boy. What kind of game would that be – half of it is a Superman clone, and the other is finishing your multiplication tables and going through puberty? No thanks. Also, any game that could or would feature a “Shazam!” button should never happen.

All five elements: earth, fire, wind, water, and cheese.

1. Captain Planet

I’m actually trying not to laugh thinking about how terrible Captain Planet is. Can you imagine a video game starring this flamboyantly gay, green mullet-sporting disaster of a superhero? Would he even bother to stop a robbery if the robbers used a hybrid getaway car? Forget battles of epic proportions, races against time, as Captain Planet, you’ll be fighting… pollution? Toxic waste? Nothing? Captain Planet saves the day, by recycling that soda can that a much cooler superhero dropped in the park on his way to deal out some actual justice. You’d be playing a game where you have to recycle and plant trees. No. Probably the only good action in the game would be fighting Captain Pollution, and even then it would probably just be them waiving doilies at each other at a tea party. On a side note, that South American kid with the Heart ring had no value to the Planeteers at all. Terrible.

Honourable Mention: Aquaman

Lastly, one that almost made the list is the fishy failure that is Aquaman. I’d really, really like to go into further detail about the character, but I’d have to Wikipedia that, and nobody cares anyway. If I wanted to play a boring aquatic game, I’d play Ecco the Dolphin again. Although to be fair, a dolphin has more personality than Aquaman.

Although a failure as a superhero, Aquaman could have a very lucrative sushi enterprise.

Alright everyone, after this massive video game crapshoot I need to go take a shower. If you have any other ideas for comic-book superheroes that shouldn’t ever have their own games, let me know below! Perhaps I’ll do another installment if there’s enough craptacular characters I didn’t mention here.

‘Die Hard,’ ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Turned Into Comic Books

Two films – one a beloved action franchise, the other an upcoming horror comedy – are making their way into the comic world courtesy of Boom! Studios.

The comic-book company has announced it will publish a “Die Hard” prequel titled “Die Hard: Year One,” which will star a younger version of the John McClane character made famous by Bruce Willis on the big screen.

The official plot synopsis reads: “Every great action hero got started somewhere: Batman Began. Bond had his Casino Royale. And for John McClane, more than a decade before the first DIE HARD movie, he’s just another rookie cop, an East Coast guy working on earning his badge in New York City during 1976’s Bicentennial celebration. Too bad for John McClane, nothing’s ever that easy.”

The comic-book series will hit store shelves in August.

Also slated for release in August is the graphic novel “Jennifer’s Body,” based on the upcoming Diablo Cody-penned thriller of the same name.

The movie stars Megan Fox as a demonically-possessed cheerleader whose victims of choice are teenage boys. According to the Boom! plot synopsis, the novel “ties into the movie and expands on its universe.”

My Chemical Romance Singer Comic Book Coming To Theatres

Although Gerard Way is probably best known as the frontman of My Chemical Romance, fans may also know the singer as the creator of the Dark Horse comic “The Umbrella Academy.” Now, Way’s story is making the leap to the big screen.

Universal Pictures is adapting the comic into a feature film, with “Constantine” scribe Mark Bomback tapped to pen the screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Besides the 2005 DC Comics adaptation starring Keanu Reeves, Bomback’s writing credits include “Live Free or Die Hard” and the recently-released “Race to Witch Mountain.”

“The Umbrella Academy” revolves around a group of disbanded superheroes who reunite after the death of their mentor, Sir Reginald Hargreeves. An alien disguised as a wealthy entrepreneur, Hargreeves adopted the members of the team soon after their birth and trained them to save the world. With his passing, the superheroes must carry on the mission.

The comics were first published as a six-issue miniseries in 2007 and won the title of best limited series at last year’s Eisner Awards, which honour creative achievement in American comic books. A second miniseries is in the works.

Matthew Fox A Hit Man?

Matthew Fox might be getting a little animated.

According to Variety, Fox is in talks to take the lead in the adaptation of the comic book “Billy Smoke.” He would play a hit man who seeks revenge after a botched job, and decides to rid the world of all assassins.

Though Fox’s small screen leading man status is red hot, as Lost’s Jack Shepard, he has failed to impress at the box office. His recent film credits include “Speed Racer” and “Vantage Point.”
