Sum 41′s Deryck Whibley Collapses Onstage

Sum 41 star Deryck Whibley collapsed onstage at a concert in Sendai, Japan last week, reports Canoe.

The singer was carried backstage to recover and the band had to halt the gig until he felt better.

A video featuring the Canadian star in pain has been posted online, showing him writhing around the floor in discomfort and telling his bandmates, “My knees were quivering and I couldn’t stand… I don’t know what happened, I never had that feeling.”

It is still not clear why Whibley fell to his knees, but the scare won’t end the tour. Sum 41 will continue their Japanese trek with shows in Fukuoka, Osaka and Tokyo this week.

You Say Party! We Say Die! Drummer Dies After Onstage Collapse

The drummer of the Abbotsford, BC punk band You Say Party! We Say Die! died on Sunday (April 18) after he collapsed onstage during a Vancouver show on Friday (April 16), reports CHARTattack.com.

Devon Clifford, 30, suffered a brain hemorrhage on stage at the Rickshaw Theatre.

According to The Province newspaper, the band originally thought Clifford had stopped to pick up a drum stick. He was taken to the hospital but went into a coma. And although doctors did surgery on him, they were unable to save him.

“It is with absolute sadness to report that our dear friend Devon Clifford passed away just hours ago in a Vancouver hospital surrounded by his family and friends,” a statement from the band’s publicist, Darryl Weeks, read. “He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. I request that we respect the family’s privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

CTV reported that Clifford’s hemorrhage was caused by “congenital defects.”

“No one had any idea about the condition – it just happened to pop that night while he was playing with the band,” Ronald Clifford, Clifford’s father, told The Province.

“Devon Clifford was an extremely gifted drummer and determined character,” said Clifford’s family in a statement. “The Clifford family would like to take this opportunity to remind young people to have the courage to follow their dreams.”

Madonna Visits Injured

Madonna arrived in Marseille, France, Sunday morning to visit some of the patients hospitalized after a stadium collapsed in the city during set-up for her concert, originally scheduled for Sunday, reports E! Online. The accident occurred Thursday, killing two and injuring more than 30.

Workers from the accident are being treated at three hospitals in the city. It is unknown how many Madonna will visit.

“I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,” said the pop star. “My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families, along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.”

The emotional singer performed Thursday night in Udine, Italy. “We’re here to give life and to inspire life,” she told the crowd. I feel so, so devastated to be in any way associated with anyone’s suffering. Let’s all just take a moment to appreciate life in general. We are all so blessed and so lucky to be alive.”

French authorities have begun a manslaughter investigation.

Madonna will continue her world tour with a sold-out show in Barcelona on Tuesday.

Michael Moore’s New Documentary Coming This Fall

Michael Moore’s documentary about the collapse of the global economy will hit theatres Oct. 2, the film’s distributors announced Thursday.

According to Overture and Paramount Vintage, the still-untitled documentary will explore the “root causes of the economic meltdown,” as well as “take a comical look at the corporate and political shenanigans” that resulted in the financial meltdown.

“The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn’t have enough wealth,” Moore said in a statement. “So they systematically set out to fleece the American people.”

The distributors noted that the movie will hit theatres almost a year to the day that U.S. Congress passed the country’s first economic stimulus package.

Moore is known for making provocative documentaries, from his 1989 breakout film “Roger and Me” to the Academy Award-winning “Bowling For Columbine” and the controversial “Fahrenheit 9/11.” His most recent film, 2007′s “Sicko,” took a critical look at the U.S. health-care industry.
