Remember when we didn’t have iPods so we had to watch the music video channel on so we could dance around with all our favourite artists? And how excited were you when those little player things came out and you could buy a song card?
If you re-listen to some of these songs you ran around the house belting as a kid, you’d realize that most of them are really dirty. In fact, almost all of them are explicitly about sex and sexual acts. While no one EVER knew what Shaggy was saying in his songs, but rest assured all of his lyrics were pretty raunchy. Surpisingly, the same is true for O-Town. They were a cute boy band, but who knew they were singing about how often they think about sex? And that they were graphically describing their wet dreams?
Yes, sorry to traumatize you, but all those clean cut teeny bopper bands were anything but. Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, Spice Girls—they were all guilty of tricking you into thinking their songs were innocent. Really, they are all about sex. Sex. Sex. And more sex. The only sad thing is that while today’s music is very much the same in this regard—if not more explicit—we all thought the good ol’ days were different. I guess not.
Personally, I was a little scared by the whole O-Town giving us a little too much information at first. I have since come to realize that nothing will persuade me that the music of the 90′s (my childhood) isn’t superior to the music of now. I would much rather listen to raunchy N’Sync then 50 Cent’s “B*tch Get In My Car,” or “Candy Shop” any day of the week. That’s a fact.

Kelly, Michelle and Beyonce, I don’t think you can handle this? The fierce trio always sported matching outfits, and I secretly wanted to be the fourth member, even if that meant me being backup to Queen B (I totally wouldn’t care). The girls recently released a new song, with many fans rejoicing. Beyonce is set as a performer at the SuperBowl half-time show, causing lots of speculation whether the three of them will perform together then. Michelle Williams gave the disappointing news on a radio interview saying, “It is rumored.” Throwback to some of their best jams: “Say My Name,” “Bootylicious,” and “Survivor.”[beyhive1992]
N*SYNC

Don’t tell me you never owned any of the the guy’s famous puppet dolls, replicated from their second studio album, “No Strings Attached.” If anyone else is waiting for some type of reunion to happen, let me know because I’ll actually do anything I can to make it happen. N*SYNC was actually my very first concert and Justin was my first crush (not Bieber). With Justin Timberlake now having his own musical comeback, the odds are slim that a reunion will happen anytime soon. Sigh… Throwback to some of their best jams: “Bye Bye Bye,” “Gone,” and “Tearin’ Up My Heart.” [nsyncishere]

Freedom – Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj’s new track “Freedom” is a surprisingly intimate reflection of her success in the rap industry and her rise to stardom. Off her upcoming album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up, Nicki suppresses her usual animalistic antics rapping confidently but tamely. She sings also sings the slow hook, and actually has a pretty controlled set of pipes on her. It’s a very non-Nicki track, but a welcomed change. The Re-Up features collaborations with big names like Ciara, Tyga, Cassie, and Lil Wayne. The record drops Nov. 19.
Blank Page – Christina Aguilera
In a pop music world dominated by scantily clad young girls, hard beats, auto-tune, and dubstep drops, poor Christina Aguilera has had a hard time trying to fit in and stay relevant (does anyone remember the monstrosity that was Bionic?) Finally, the songstress seems to have found her own with her upcoming album Lotus. “Blank Page,” the latest track to be released, is very reminiscent of “Beautiful,” with a soft piano, and X-tina’s inhumanely powerful voice being showcased in all its glory. We aren’t sure whether Blank Page will be released as a single, but it could make for an extremely successful ballad. Lotus hits stores Nov. 12.

Christina Aguilera’s new video for “Your Body” is like a mashup of all her past personas. She’s got the sex appeal of Stripped some of the retro style from Back to Basics and of course her bold, trademark voice that’s oh-so-Christina.
In the Melina Matsoukas-directed video for the song, Christina is a murderous temptress who’s on the prowl… FOR BLOOD. Why do you hate men so much X-Tina? Brace yourselves for lots of colours (especially pink), rhinestones, costume jewelry and schexy dresses. Also expect tons of brutal yet unexplained murders. The track will be on her upcoming album Lotus, which will be out Nov. 13.
Do you like the new Christina?

While everyone is gushing over The X-Factor auditions (because well, they’re awesome) that other show over at NBC called The Voice is also having some “WTF that’s awesome” moments.
Take Melanie Martinez, the quirky gap-toothed contestant who auditioned with Britney Spears “Toxic.” I actually love the original version — it’s such a guilty pleasure. But Martinez turns the dance song into a mellow, acoustic track that I would totally listen to on a chill evening. Her voice has an interesting shakiness and she’s a double hitter since she also played the guitar and banged a tambourine with her feet.
Everyone turned their chair around except Christina Aguilera. I wonder if she was turned off by the choice of song rather than her soft, songbird voice.
Listen to her here:
In his spare time, 18-year-old Curtis Golden plays computer games, reads comics and collects figurines of superheroes. He describes himself as the “stereotypical nerd.” Spurred by his sisters, he also became a huge Spice Girls fan, which is why he was probably all the more nervous to audition for X-Factor UK in front of band member Mel B.
Unfortunately, Mel B branded his unexpected, countrified performance of Christina Aguilera’s “Candyman” as “annoying and irritating.” His Spice Girls memorabilia wasn’t enough to win Mel B over but his unique performance was enough to get me.
According to Metro UK, the contestant was too shy to audition in previous years but finally decided to go for it after surviving a serious car accident. He told them that after something like that happens, “you kind of stop giving a c**p.”
Watch below to see if he ended up getting through.

TREND: Embellished collars
If there’s an opportunity to add a bit of an edge to a rather conservative piece of clothing, I’ll always take it. Embellished collars usually do the trick. Studs on a good oxford or pearls on a peter pan collar make a statement on their own. You can also wear a collar necklace if you want the same effect, without the bulk of the shirt on a hot summer’s day.

Come right this way folks, follow the red velvet rope along and marvel at these photo masterpieces, portraying celebrities at their finest drunkest. Hush young socialite, it’s okay. It happens to your dowdy, non-famous neighbour next door as much as it does to you. Unfortunately you’re more likely to be the victim of a pants-less time capsule gifted by the paparazzi than the guy with a flip-cam next door. [Source]

A lot of people couldn’t help but notice Christina Aguilera’s studded short-shorts, diapers, underwear, bottoms on The Voice last night. I’m so not into the whole Fashion Police thing, opting to celebrate unique fashions instead (you enjoy so much more in life this way), so I’ll spare you the Depend jokes
Still, I’ve noticed the trend on more celebs than just Aguilera, including Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga. They retail for $400 by Norma Kamali. Would you be daring enough to wear them? Office: definitely not. Party: probably not. On a glitzy televised entertainment show? Acceptable.
Still, a lot of tweeters sounded off about the wardrobe choice last night:
Check out Nicki Minaj, below, who wore them too. Read more…

It was hard to hear Justin Bieber perform “Boyfriend” over the shrieking girls on the finale of The Voice last night. Boyfriend rocked it in a studded leather jacket and those magic gold shoes he wore in the music video.
Of course, it was ultimately Jermaine Paul’s night as he was crowned season two’s winner. Paul was a backup singer for Alicia Keys but left that job to audition for the competition. His mentor was Blake Shelton
“I just want to say thank you to everybody who supported me from Day 1. God bless y’all man,” said Jermaine. “Nobody but Jesus, man, nobody.”
Yes, everyone seemed to be in a good mood last night. Even Christina Aguilera managed to smile during JB’s performance. That means it must have been good!

In most circles, it’s considered unprofessional to rag on people you’ve worked with in the past (especially on national television) but The Wanted brushed off their whole confidentiality agreement to tell a story about working with Britney Spears. In an interview with NYC’s Fresh 102.7 the guys said they were told by bouncers to face the wall as Britney Spears walked down the hallway.
This comes right after their comments about Christina Aguilera being a b*tch proving that a) the guys really don’t care about upsetting their fellow artist’s fans and b) every interview with them is going to be juicy. No one is safe. However, in this case it sounds like they weren’t commenting on Britney, it was more a reflection on her bodyguard.
Tom seemed to be the instigator this time, spurring Siva to tell the story: “We signed a confidentiality thing that we should never say anything about what happened but tell it anyway.”
Jay brought the comments back a dial, insisting that when they met Britney personally she was very kind: ”honestly when we actually met her person to person, she was so down to earth,” he said. “You can tell she’s a total southern girl and Nathan, when he was a kid, won a singing competition. She was one of the judges or something. And she gave him a kiss, it was one of his first kisses as a kid. So he got to meet her again and support her.”
The finishing touch in the interview was when the guys talked about Justin Bieber kicking Siva in the “left testicle.” Sadly, they go into far few details to indicate how and why it happened.

The Wanted learned a hard lesson after calling “The Voice” judge Christina Aguilera “a bitch” during a radio interview in NYC. Two days later, Tom Parker sort of apologized, although he swiftly took another jab at her.
After appearing on The Voice the band went on 92.3 NOW and said: ”She’s a total bitch. She might not be a bitch in real life, but to us she was a bitch.” The band was hit pretty hard by Xtina fans after the rant.
When TMZ asked Parker about the comments outside Hollywood’s Mondrian Hotel, he said: We shouldn’t have said it, to be honest with you. We just think manners cost nothing, you know what I mean? The rest of the judges were really nice, and she didn’t even walk over to us and talk to us. We apologize for the comment.”
Their comments come just a couple weeks after the glacial look she gave Justin Bieber while he was performing.

Do you think the original comments went too far?

Looks like The Wanted aren’t fans of Christina Aguilera.
In an interview with morning host Sarah Lee, the band talked about the singer and how they think her judgement isn’t so good.
The guys have performed on both American Idol and The Voice. On Idol, Max George jumped off the stage to give a little hug and a kiss to judge Jennifer Lopez.
When he was asked why he didn’t do that to Aguilera on The Voice, George replied, “She’s was bit scary, to be honest.”
Tom Parker, who failed to make the audition round on U.K’s “The X Factor” before joining The Wanted, also called her “a total bitch” and said she “wouldn’t even look at us.”
Turning back to George, who was asked what he was thinking when he jumped off the stage on Idol and kissed Lopez, he said: “Yeah well J-Lo’s hot. Christina’s nothing special so…”
Ouch! Well that’s gotta sting. This boy band really don’t censor anything!
Watch them discuss it here.

Earlier this week we wondered whether Britney Spears would accept Simon Cowell’s offer and become the next X Factor judge. Turns out, Spears rejected the $10 million offer three weeks ago. The offer was in the ballpark of what Christina Aguilera earned on season three of The Voice and close to what Jennifer Lopez was paid for American Idol. But it wasn’t good enough for Spears and she apparently asked Fox for a whopping $20 million!
Now, it’s being reported that the singer is considering a different offer, to become a resident performer at a Las Vegas hotel in the fall, just like Celine Dion.
Paul Abdul was paid $2.5 million for X Factor so I would be flattered if I was Spears. When you get to have an exorbitant amount of riches, wouldn’t you just want to settle down with a project you really want to do instead of reaching for more and more money?
Christina Aguilera stole the stage from this The Voice contestant when they sang Mary J. Blige’s classic “I’m Goin’ Down” together.
Sera Hill’s blind audition went so well that Aguilera felt compelled to ask her producers for a microphone and jump on stage to sing the chorus of the song (the only part of the song she knew by heart).
It’s so unexpected that if I were on stage I’m sure I’d be shell shocked. Aguilera managed to steal the stage from Hill AND the other judges who wear this “There she goes again” look. There’s no question that Hill was chosen by one of the judges but I wonder if Aguilera nabbed her in the end.
Christina Aguilera was one of the many celebrities who attended Etta James’ funeral this past weekend.
She was set to pay respects with a performance of Etta’s classic “At Last”, but got upstaged by a mysterious substance dripping from her legs.
Some say it’s urine, while some say it’s a spray tan gone wrong. Christina’s has some bad luck on stage as of late. When she sang the national anthem during the Superbowl last year, she messed up the lyrics big time. Girl can’t catch a break!
Christina doesn’t seem to be bothered by all this talk of her “leaky performance”. When she spoke with People Magazine the following day, she had only nice things to say about the late singer.
“Etta wasn’t just any performer, she was a strong woman whose talent came from a place so deep it moved people in ways they never felt before. Losing her was, to me, like losing a part of my soul,” she explained.

Christina Aguilera has noted Etta James as her inspiration many times and today she paid tribute once again by belting out the classic wedding song at the late singer’s funeral in Los Angeles.
“She was the one that cut right through my soul. So tonight, Etta, this song is for you,” the 31-year-old entertainer said before performing. James passed away last week of complications from leukaemia, aged 73.
Stevie Wonder also took the stage to sing “Shelter in the Rain” with a church choir accompanying, President Barack Obama wrote a letter and Rev. Al Sharpton delivered the eulogy.

NBC’s ‘The Voice’ has announced that they’ve enlisted more celebrity talent for their upcoming season – this will surely challenge those over at ‘American Idol’ the most watched show on television.
According to Rolling Stone, each of the show’s panelists will now be joined by two celebrity advisors from the music industry. Cee-Lo Green will be joined by other R&B heavyweights, Ne-Yo and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. Maroon 5′s frontman Adam Levine will have some help from Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke while mentor Christina Aguilera will be joined by Jewel and industry-icon, Lionel Richie.
“I trust the show more than I trust the record industry at this point,” said Levine about reality show singing contests, in a recent Reuters interview. “It is a very tired format, but in a way this is a very fresh way of doing it.”
Another mentor, country-star Blake Shelton is pulling in two reality-show veterans – his wife, Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson. That’s right, Seacrest.
“I chose Miranda and Kelly because they both survived reality television shows,” Shelton told reporters at an annual gathering of TV critics. “I just wanted somebody who could talk to them about what they were going through.”
Executive producer and reality show innovator Mark Burnett admits that the show’s success hasn’t yet fulfilled its expectations. Last year’s winner Javier Colon (who?) released his album and peaked at no.134 on the Billboard 200 album chart. That doesn’t even come close to the success of “Idol” winners in the vein of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
It’s impossible to predict success in the ever-changing music industry and even making a name for yourself in the Billboard chart is a huge feat. Though this season could change everything, again.
The new season of ‘The Voice’ premieres February 5 on NBC.

Last night, Katy Perry fulfilled her teenage dream by hosting Saturday Night Live with her touring buddy Robyn as musical guest.
She’s been on a stampede of success over the past few weeks – named one of Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating People of the Year, shot down a few more divorce and pregnancy rumours, won a few American Music Awards, sported a new haircut and oh, nominated for a handful of Grammy awards. Then the singer-turned-host dawned the seemingly haunting deed of hosting Saturday Night Live. At first, she seemed insanely nervous during her opening monologue as she impersonated the Rockefeller Christmas tree, but her sexual tension with Kristen Wiig brought it back around.
Earlier this week, Perry took a break from rehearsals to talk about the experience. “It’s fun on the outside, and on the inside it’s a lot more hard work than I can ever imagine. So it’s nerve wracking but I always love a challenge and this is something new, so it’s challenging but I’m up for it. And if I completely embarrass myself, I’ll just stick to music. I’ll fall back on that.”
And that’s exactly what happened. Perry appeared through at least nine sketches where she parodied Christina Aguilera, recent musical guest Florence Welch, Pippa Middleton and herself on a Finnish talk show. Her renditions of the above-mentioned music stars were flawless. But, be sure to check out her digital short with Andy Samberg, Matt Damon and Val Kilmer.
SNL-alum and Late Night star Jimmy Fallon hosts next weekend with musical guest, Michael Buble.
Our beloved Brit Brit has reached another milestone. She has reached her dirty thirties today.
Since escaping her mother’s womb 30 years ago in Mississippi, she’s never had a dull moment. From starring in the Mickey Mouse Club, to dating the hottest boy band member, the whole world is always in the loop when it comes to her career and personal life. The pop princess had accomplished a lot for a 30-year-old; some good, some bad and some ugly. Here’s a look at the top five most outrageous Britney moments.
5. Her 2001 VMA performance
While “singing” her hit song “I’m a Slave 4 U”, Britney’s wardrobe consisted of a green bikini, a lot of glitter and a white python. The sultry performance was talked about for weeks at the water cooler. People still dress up in this costume for Halloween sometimes.
4. Entering motherhood
Six years ago, while married to Kevin Federline, Britney had her first son, Sean Preston Federline. It came as a shock because no one thought Britney was ready for such a responsibility. In fact, after her second child, Jayden James Federline, people still poked fun at her. Comedian Sarah Silverman even called her sons “the most beautiful mistakes” at an award show.
3. Her day-long marriage
We all know the expression “what happens in Vegas, stayed in Vegas”. For Britney, she ended up bringing her Vegas escapades back home with her. The media blew up and I’m sure the internet broke when news broke that Britney married her childhood friend Jason Alexander but got an annulment a day later. This is when everyone began questioning Britney and gossiping about a potential drug addiction.
2. Kissing Madonna
As per usual, when Britney’s set to performance at an award show, it’s sure to be a jawdropper. For the opening song at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, Britney, Christina Aguilera and Madonna performed “Like a Virgin”. The two former Mickey Mouse members were wearing bridal gowns and Madonna wore a black tux. When they changed songs to “Hollywood”, Madonna did the unexpected and planted a sloppy kiss on Britney (and Christina but this isn’t her moment). The best part: the camera cutting to Justin Timberlake for his reaction.
1. Shaving Her Head
Back in 2007, Britney did what was considered the norm for a major popstar: she checked into rehab. It seems she was partying too much with “bad role models” like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Unfortunately, Britney abruptly checked out a day later. The following day, she was spotted at a Tattoo Parlour in L.A. shaving her head. Known for her long, gorgeous blonde locks, the sight of Britney bald and completely worn out shocked just about everyone.
