Elle Fanning
What she’s wearing: The younger Fanning sister opted for a vintage 1930s chiffon print maxi dress to the premiere of her new film ‘Ginger & Rosa’ at the New York Film Festival.
Why we love it: For such a young actress, Fanning is proving her fashion chops with this look. A mix of floral and polka dots would usually make for a weird combination but it works in this easy and breezy chiffon number. Plus the sheerness in the sleeves makes this dress less matronly. Plus Fanning beautifully accents and modernizes this look with gold metallic Marni wedges.
Takeaway: Go vintage! You’ll be surprised at what you can find in your local vintage or second hand store (heck maybe you’ll find some goodies tucked away in your attic!). It may be a mission to find that one-of-a-kind amazing piece but it’ll be worth the effort when you do. Plus going against the grain of wearing the latest designer duds is always on-trend!
Cher Lloyd
What she’s wearing: The U.K. popstar was snapped leaving ‘The Today Show’ in NYC wearing Cheap Monday’s ombré Second Skin Faded Black jeans, a printed top, and a green jacket.
Why we love it: Ombré has been a popular design technique for a while now. You probably have seen it done in dresses, tops, and even hair. And the fading technique works just as well in jeans too! Lloyd tops it off with a sweet bow print top and an (asparagus?) green jacket (an on-trend colour for fall).
Takeaway: What helps makes this ombré look work is that Lloyd continues the fading effect by wearing darker colours on top and lighter colours on the bottom (with her pale pink converse sneakers). You don’t have to stick with just the colours within the fade, you can still add pops of colour as proven in this look.
Taylor Swift
What she’s wearing: T-Swift was spotted leaving The Hospital Club in London wearing a mustard cardigan, a French Connection oxblood top, and polka dotted jeans from AG Adriano Goldschmied.
Why we love it: As I mentioned last week, Swift has been rocking some major vintage-inspired looks recently and this is no exception. Mustard yellow has become a staple for fall, and she pairs it with current on-trend colour oxblood. Her sweater also includes a cool printed statement collar as well, which is highlighted by her pearl necklace. Added to this are her polka-dot jeans which draw you eyes down to her fun Charlotte Olympia ‘Kitty’ flats. Overall Swift looks like a cool cat from the beatnick era. Oh and don’t forget the Mark Cross satchel bag and Ray-bans that complete the look too!
Takeaway: Coloured denim is everywhere but you can standout by trying some printed denim like Swift’s polka-dots ones or even Cher Lloyd’s ombré pair.

Sooo I kind of secretly love this video. Before watching Cher Lloyd’s new music video for “Oath,” I couldn’t imagine having major feelings about the message of the song. Plus, I was originally put off by Lloyd casually hanging out on top of a flashy red convertible in her vintage bikini (dude, you’re 19).
Re:

But I soon fell in love.
The song is about the importance of friendship and sticking together FOREVER. You can cue the cheese all you want, but I’m pretty much inspired to strip down to my tasseled necklace-tank top thing (like the one she’s wearing) and slow-mo down the beach with my girls. It’s happening. Read more…
“You and I” — Anjulie
Produced by Italian DJ Benny Benassi, Anjulie’s “You and I” combines a fun, danceable beat with lyrics you can sing along to. The Euro-track shows the Canadian artist’s versatility, as it’s a departure from her recently-released track “Headphones.” You can download “You and I” starting tomorrow!
“Anything Could Happen” — Ellie Goulding
Ellie Goulding first released a lyric video with fan submitted Instagram photos for “Anything Could Happen.” Now, the lead single from her second studio album Halycon finally has an official music video. The video is about Goulding and her soulmate getting into a car accident and is filmed on a beautiful beach in Malibu. This isn’t your typical car crash though, as the beach is littered with shining spheres, mirrored pyramids. Goulding herself wears a flowing gown. It’s a pretty heart-wrenching video and hopefully isn’t a metaphor for her real life relationship with DJ Skrillex!

In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, Justin Bieber gets a cameo on The Simpsons and Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne are engaged.
HIT: Justin Bieber to get Simpson-fied

The teen heartthrob is the latest celebrity to get himself drawn into cartoon’s most famous family, The Simpsons. Bieber let the news slip after tweeting he just did a voiceover session for the show, which was later deleted. One of the show’s executive producer later confirmed the news that the Biebs will make a cameo on the “Fabulous Faker Boy” episode which is set to air next year. Congrats Biebers, being on the Simpsons is pretty #swag.
MISS: Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne are engaged

Here’s the dirty deets and here are my two cents on the best thing that happened to the internet. One, THEY WERE DATING? WHAT HAPPENED TO BRODY JENNER? Two, please don’t call them the first couple of Canadian music. That’s just offensive to all the Canadian artists who can actually make music. Three, all the face-mash ups are terrifying. Please stop. I like sleeping at night.
HIT: Jolie-Pitt offspring lands a movie role

Vivienne Jolie-Pitt has already landed herself a movie at four-years-old. She’ll be appearing in mom Angelina Jolie’s latest Disney flick, “Maleficent,” as a young Princess Aurora. If this is any indication of things to come from the Jolie-Pitt clan, expect them to be the next Smiths (as in Will and Jada’s multi-talented family).

Cher Lloyd – “Dancing On My Own”
Cher Lloyd’s last single “Want U Back,” had the 19-year-old songstress flipping tables, acting bratty in a diner and pretty much causing her exes to start filling out retraining orders. She shows us she isn’t all snarls and sass in her new cover of Swedish pop star Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own.” Lloyd strips down Robyn’s electro hit into an acoustic version, singing earnestly and powerfully. Like, seriously, if you had any doubts as to the girl’s talent, Lloyd will prove you wrong with this track.
Parade – “Light Me Up”
With the Spice Girls announcing a reunion musical, it would appear that British girl groups are all the rage right now. Parade is the latest group of five gorgeous, talented women to band together, and lemme tell ya, you’re going to like what you hear. Their latest single, “Light me Up,” produced by Tom Powell (of Girls Aloud and Sugababes fame) mixes influences of synth pop, electro, and dubstep into one catchy, crazy track. Trust me, one listen to thing song and the girls will “Parade” straight into your hearts. (Sorry, I had to!)
David Guetta ft. Sia – “Falling to Pieces”
After David Guetta and Sia’s monstrous hit “Titanium,” it was inevitable that the French DJ and Aussie songstress would collaborate again. Once again, ladies and gentlemen, we have a massive hit waiting to happen. Guetta debuted “Falling to Pieces” last weekend at the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium and judging by the videos out there, the crowd was eating it up. I’m definitely a fan of the Guetta/Sia collab and can’t wait to bust my moves at the club to this jam!

Name: MattyB
Song: Cher Lloyd’s “Want U Back”
Why we’re obsessed: Cher Lloyd’s addictive “Want U Back” hit takes on a whole new meaning with MattyB’s impressive spin on it. Instead of yearning for an ex, he’s heartbroken over a confiscated iPhone. Really? Is he even old enough to have one?
While this cover’s tempo and beat is pretty similar to the original, MattyB’s rapping skills stand out. He raps: “Head spinning like a helicopter cause I just got in trouble with the monster” (a.k.a mom), or “Girl you can have everything you want as long as you don’t take away my iPhone.”
MattyB is a regular on YouTube and so far, this video has reached over 190,000 views in only three days.
Background: MattyB has been covering a variety of tracks, from JBiebs to David Guetta, since he created his YouTube channel in 2010. He has over 80 videos along with some originals. Trust me, he’s really good at what he does. At such a young age, I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from him really soon!
Watch it here:
Megan and Liz slowed Cher Lloyd’s song “Want U Back” in their newest cover. The 19-year-old twins say on YouTube they’re OBSESSED with the British singer and rapper: “She is so talented and has an incredible sense of fashion… new style icon anyone!?
We hope you guys like our version of this song. It’s a tad different, but the song is so great. We had fun with this one.”
We love their stripped down version of the song and can’t wait to hear their upcoming album, which is due out in September 2012. We’re still not over their cover of Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” either.

Cher Lloyd – Want U Back
“Want U Back” is British pop star Cher Lloyd’s first single in the US and is a great, feisty debut for the 18-year old who competed on The X Factor UK two years ago. The song was originally released as Lloyd’s third single off her album Sticks + Stones, and was re-cut and re-released for her introduction to the US. The music video shows Lloyd confronting her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend in a diner while wreaking havoc all over the place. Apart from looking like an American Apparel advertisement, Lloyd shows off her serious sass and has a great “don’t care” attitude while keeping things PG for the young ones.
Lykke Li – Come Near
Lykke Li’s label Ingrid released a compilation called Volym 1 for international Record Store Day on April 21. The compilation featured Scandinavian artists including Miike Snow, Starlight Serenade, and a brand new track by Lykke Li. “Come Near” is an ethereal tribal inspired track with no apparent hook or chorus, but shows Lykke Li’s raw talent with some creative African inspired wails and drums. Those Swedes are a talented bunch.
Kanye West – Lost in the World
Even though Kanye West’s last album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasies was released over a year ago, the rap superstar teamed up with fashion filmmaker Ruth Hogben to create this video masterpiece. His video for Kanye’s “Lost in the World,” which features Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, is stunning and goes far beyond the norm of usual rap aesthetics. It’s an art piece shot in black and white featuring anguished dancing, layering effects, and strobe. Lots of strobe. Whether you’re a Kanye fan or not, this creative video is definitely worth checking out.

Cher Lloyd released one of the best pop albums last year. Now, in 2012 Cher is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
The X Factor contestant, only 18, shows off her amazing pipes during a taping of MTV Live Sessions. She sang “Beautiful People” with just two guitar players backing her up.
The pop version found on her debut “Sticks + Stones”. If you can’t get enough of Cher, you can listen to her acoustic performance of “Superhero” here.
2012 keeps getting better and better with all these music video releases. Cher Lloyd’s the latest pop star to put out a fun new video.
The X Factor UK contestant hooked up with X Factor USA alum Astro for “Want U Back”. The video features Cher reminiscing about her lost love, and desperately trying to get back at him for being with another girl.
“Want U Back” was directed by Parris, who is known working with other artists such as The-Dream, Ludacris, Swizz Beatz and Common. Parris makes Polaroid photos and magazine spreads of Cher come to life in the upbeat music video.
Like her previous effort “With Ur Love” featuring Mike Posner, “Want U Back” will be another attempt at helping Cher break into the US music industry, since she’s already found plenty of success across the pond.
1. Most memorable story of 2011: The passing of Jack Layton

The charismatic leader of the NDP passed away from cancer on August 22, leaving a deep void in Canadian politics.
2. Best pop album: Cher Lloyd “Sticks + Stones”

This album from X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd has a bit of everything: rap, pop, 80s samples and even dubstep.
3. Best movie: Bridesmaids

I can’t remember the last time I laughed like a hyena in a movie theatre. Kristin Wiig and the rest of her female cast members made this movie the success it is today.
4. Best t.v. show: Parks and Recreation

This show has some of the most eccentric characters on television: The bacon obsessed Ron Swanson, the overly optimistic Leslie Knope and the sarcastic and dark April Ludgate.
5. Best dressed: Florence Welch

The lead singer of Florence + the Machine always manages to look like she came straight out of a Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino painting.
6. Best blog (other than our own, of course!): Cute Overload

7. Which male and female celeb owned 2011: Justin Bieber and Zooey Deschanel

Justin not only escaped the hyped baby mama drama, he dropped a hit Christmas album and countless of music videos, won a ton of awards for his musical efforts, and got a haircut! He was literally everywhere this year. Zooey Deschanel finishes much of 2011 as a single lady but she can celebrate her new sitcom “New Girl” being a huge enough success to warrant her a Golden Globe nomination. Take that, Ben Gibbard!
8. Shocking celebrity moment: Amy Winehouse found dead

When the 27 year old was found dead from a drug overdose in July, it made a lot of people rethink their choices for doing drugs and drinking alcohol. If her death has taught us anything, it’s that we’re not alone in overcoming our demons.
9. Biggest surprise of 2011: Lindsay Lohan didn’t go to jail

We all thought a little time in the slammer would do Lindsay some good. Although she did complete her community service hours at a morgue, she escaped being placed behind bars for all her wrong-doings. Then she posed for Playboy!
10. Who to watch in 2012: Lana Del Rey

The gangster version of Nancy Sinatra made a big splash in late 2011 with her songs “Video Games” and “Born to Die”. With her debut album finally out in 2012, we’ll be seeing a lot more of the buxom blonde.
2011, like any other year, was full of sex, drugs, violence and even some dancing monkeys. Music videos from such artists like Bruno Mars and Britney Spears have kept us entertained from January until December. Here at andPOP, we can’t wrap up a fantastic year without discussing our top ten music videos.
10. Dr. Dre and Eminem – “I Need a Doctor”
Dr. Dre’s first official single in over a decade and we love how the video walks us through the rapper’s life.
Hard to believe this X Factor winner is only 18! Her debut album “Sticks + Stones” has been successful on charts all over the world.
Who can forget her cute and wholesome video for “With Ur Love” featuring Mike Posner. Now, Cher’s back on the tube with a darker, grittier music video for “Dub on the Track”.
Yes, it seems Cher’s just another singer jumping on the dubstep bandwagon. It’s not even the best song on the album, so I ponder why she bothered making a single out of it. Maybe it’s just an excuse to show audiences her dark side. In “Dub on the Track” she looks like she’s ready to beat you up for giving her a nasty look. She even has a badass posse to back her up!
Check out her new video below.
Today Rihanna released the first single from her upcoming album Talk Talk Talk. The track is called “You Da One,” and it’s an upbeat power-pop love song with some heavy bass synths that almost sound like they were borrowed from dub step.
In honour of Rihanna’s flirtation with the genre, we hand selected some new singles that have been remixed by dub step artists.
Normally this sort of stuff isn’t really our style but these inturpretations were so enticing we had to post them. Check out our playlist below, featuring Mac Miller, Drake, Cher Lloyd and Mike Posiner. If nothing else, these tracks should help carry you into the weekend and they would make an excellent addition to a pre-party playlist.
Mac Miller – Smile Back / Skrillex – Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Drake Ft. Nicki Minaj – Make Me Proud (DJ Frankenstein Remix)
Cher Lloyd feat Mike Posner – With Ur Love (Shirobon Remix)
If you’re ever listening to records and staring blankly at your fridge wondering what to drink, you’re not alone. A new website called Drinkify was designed to help music enthusiasts decide what to drink when listening to their favourite artists.
You simply type in the name of the artist or band you’re currently listening to and a delicious recipe will appear, usually that of an alcoholic beverage (unless you’re Justin Bieber). Here’s a look at a sample of artists with their paired drinks.
Remember kids: drink responsibly.
