Rapper T.I., otherwise known as Clifford Harris Jr., is projected to be released from federal prison on Sept. 29 after serving an 11-month sentence, reports Billboard.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons website states that T.I. will leave the Arkansas Federal Correctional Institution a little over one year after he was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of drug possession last September. The rapper was previously on probation after serving a 10-month stint in the Arkansas prison on federal weapons charges.
Being behind the bars didn’t stop him, though. T.I.’s seventh studio album ‘No Mercy’ was released while the rapper was incarcerated last December, and has since moved 502,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
On the day of the album release, T.I. issued a thank you letter to his fans: ”It doesn’t matter how long it’ll be before the next time you see me. What matters is that I’ll be a better man before that time comes,” he wrote. “The longer I sit, the smarter I get.”
And there you have it. Hopefully he doesn’t make the same mistakes once he’s released. But I’m not very hopeful.
Singer, Erykah Badu, should keep her clothes on during music videos if she doesn’t want to be charged.
E! online reports that the 39-year-old singer is has been charged with a disorderly conduct citation for being naked in the legendary Dealey Plaza, the site of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the Dallas Police Department announced. She will have to pay a $500 fine.“Window Seat,” shows her slowly walk down the street, stripping individual layers of clothing until she is nude. She says it was inspired by an indie pop duo Matt and Kim’s video for their track “Lessons Learned,” where they do the same thing, but in Times Square before being caught by police officers.
“The statements from the witness would rise to the level of disorderly conduct,” Deputy Chief Mike Genovesi said. “The issuance of a citation is pretty routine for that charge.”
According to reports, a woman had a problem with the video and filed an indecency complaint after she and her two young children witnessed Badu stripping for her scene in the video.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t the public nudity at a renowned historical site, that got Badu busted.
“To shoot that video, they would have had to get a special-events permit from the events office, and it would have had to specify what type of filming they were doing, what subjects they would use and any traffic control they would need,” Dallas Police Department Senior Corporal Janice Crowther told MTV news this week.
100.9 WNOU-FM, a pop radio station, took singer Chris Brown’s music off its playlist according to the Indianapolis Star. The station said they based their decision on “listener criticism of the singer after his arrest in connection with the assault of a woman.”
Similarly, Cleveland’s WAKS-FM 96.5 announced it took all of Brown’s songs off its on-air playlist until further notice according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
“After the alleged incident, the phones exploded. It’s all that people wanted to talk about. They were outraged at this alleged behavior and wondered why we were continuing to support his music. I agreed, and immediately pulled all Chris Brown songs from my show until this thing shakes out in the legal system.” WAKS-FM DJ Java Joel said in a press release.
The 19-year-old singer has also lost an endorsement deal with the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company. Although Brown’s “Got Milk?” series was supposed to end this week, the company has released a statement saying it takes the allegations against the singer “very seriously.”
On Sunday, Brown was arrested and charged with allegedly making criminal threats on a women who is reported to be his girlfriend, singer Rihanna. Both singers pulled out of the Grammy awards a few hours before the live telecast on February 8.
