“Started From The Bottom” – Drake
Have you ever wondered how Drake started his career? From the bottom, of course…or so he tells us in his brand new single “Started From The Bottom.” I don’t know about you, but I was definitely itching for some new Drake and he was kind enough to surprise us with a new single and message to his fans. The new track departs a little from his usual smooth crooning with a hard beat and strong rapping but damn, is it good.
“Doobie” – M.I.A.
Do you remember what you were doing back in 2007? Well, M.I.A. was busy recording this banging track with producer Danja. Danja went on to create hits with Britney Spears and Pink, and he and M.I.A.’s track lay forgotten until now. Since it was recorded five years ago, the track sounds like it would have fit right in with M.I.A.’s second album Kala. Either way, I’m glad it finally surfaced!
In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, President Barack Obama gets re-elected, Donald Trump is a sore loser, and One Direction wear football uniforms.
HIT: President Barack Obama gets re-elected
Let’s see: I’m a Canadian. I like my healthcare. I’m also a woman so I like my rights. I also love seeing people in love get their happy ending, whether they’re straight, gay queer, etc. So obviously, I’m happy that Obama won and those dickwads (a.k.a. Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock) who have absolutely no idea what rape is didn’t. Oh, I might as well mention that a very large group of diverse women (including an Asian-American and an openly gay politician) will be in the senate next year. To quote Tina Fey, “bitches get stuff done.”
MISS: Donald Trump’s Twitter rant post-election results
![]()
There was no one more upset than Donald Trump last night after all the news outlets (including Fox News) called the election in favour of Obama. He has since deleted most of the tweets, but it doesn’t matter because, to quote NBC anchor Brian Williams, Trump “has driven well past the last exit to relevance.” Trump is too short-sighted, stubborn and maybe even xenophobic to even contemplate bi-partisanship and it’s people like him who are splitting America apart. He can rant and rave all he wants, but he has to pull a Bill Clinton by backing his claims with facts before I take heed of his garbage.
HIT: One Direction in (American) football Uniforms

Sorry for the political bits. Apparently, the American political world morphes into the entertainment world during the last days of the election (Canadian elections aren’t as entertaining. Interesting, yes, but not entertaining). To apologize, here’s a photo of One Direction in tight American football uniforms. You are welcomed.

As the holiest day of chocolate and flowers approaches, we thought we’d help those in need with a playlist of some of the greatest break-up or heartbreak songs of all time.
Almost every song on the radio seems to be about love, right? It’s the time of the year when the lonely feel loneliest and it seems like everyone else is playing tonsil-hockey, smiling and you have nothing except a Ryan Gosling marathon and a tub of Ben and Jerrys waiting at home. Well, we can’t do anything about that – but we can provide a melancholy soundtrack of some of the saddest songs of all time. We’ll venture into the 80s with some Joy Division, Springsteen, U2 and Pat Benetar while visiting ballads from modern artists like Cee-Lo, Beyonce and of course – Adele.
Enjoy wisely. Stare out your window at the falling rain if you have to.

NBC’s ‘The Voice’ has announced that they’ve enlisted more celebrity talent for their upcoming season – this will surely challenge those over at ‘American Idol’ the most watched show on television.
According to Rolling Stone, each of the show’s panelists will now be joined by two celebrity advisors from the music industry. Cee-Lo Green will be joined by other R&B heavyweights, Ne-Yo and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. Maroon 5′s frontman Adam Levine will have some help from Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke while mentor Christina Aguilera will be joined by Jewel and industry-icon, Lionel Richie.
“I trust the show more than I trust the record industry at this point,” said Levine about reality show singing contests, in a recent Reuters interview. “It is a very tired format, but in a way this is a very fresh way of doing it.”
Another mentor, country-star Blake Shelton is pulling in two reality-show veterans – his wife, Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson. That’s right, Seacrest.
“I chose Miranda and Kelly because they both survived reality television shows,” Shelton told reporters at an annual gathering of TV critics. “I just wanted somebody who could talk to them about what they were going through.”
Executive producer and reality show innovator Mark Burnett admits that the show’s success hasn’t yet fulfilled its expectations. Last year’s winner Javier Colon (who?) released his album and peaked at no.134 on the Billboard 200 album chart. That doesn’t even come close to the success of “Idol” winners in the vein of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
It’s impossible to predict success in the ever-changing music industry and even making a name for yourself in the Billboard chart is a huge feat. Though this season could change everything, again.
The new season of ‘The Voice’ premieres February 5 on NBC.
It’s the winter season and that means celebrities think it’s justified to roam around Hollywood in a ridiculously cheesy Christmas sweater. Said sweater does have it’s benefits. For example, if you’ve been at Nana’s house and ate a little too much roast beef, you can cover up your bloated belly with a Christmas sweater.
Some celebrities like Justin Bieber can look cute in just about anything. But men like Cee Lo Green and John Mayer only end up looking like clowns. You may argue Snoop Dogg doesn’t belong in a Christmas sweater because he’s “too gangster” but that’s precisely why he can rock it.
Let’s take a look at some of our favourite celebrities looking ridiculous yet festive. You can check out more holiday madness at Oh No They Didn’t.

The fantastic foursome of Will.I.Am, Fergie, Taboo and apl.de.ap – otherwise known as the Black Eyed Peas, came together for a final farewell at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium on Wednesday.
Hosted by Queen Latifah, the concert also featured performances from Cee-Lo Green, Jason DeRulo, Flo Rida, T-Pain and Sean Kingston – all respectable fans of the Peas.
Will.i.am reflected on the earlier days of the Californian group. “I remember when we got 30 dollars to play a Cal State Northridge party. And it feels so good that this many years later we’re here and we thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts for helping us pursue our dreams.”
He also had some advice for up-and-coming musicians:
“Whatever it is you wanna do in life, if somebody tells you no, don’t listen to them. Pursue your dreams, surround yourself with good friends,” he preached. “Black Eyed Peas is a family, we are friends, and we helped each other get here—and you guys are an extension of that friendship. We are here in this stadium today representing family and love, a day before Thanksgiving, and we thank you guys for the love.”
He is in the midst of prepping his much-hyped solo album “#willpower” that is set for release next year. Fergie, the 36-year-old songstress, wants to focus on starting a family with her husband, actor Josh Duhamal. While apl.de.ap is planning on going home to the Philippines and Taboo will get to spend more time with his family. It’s the end of an era, my friends.
Despite their hiatus, the group insists they are not breaking up. ”We always have two cycles of records and then we take a break. And then two cycles of records and then a break. When we take breaks you know, we work on side projects and get our personal stuff in order then come back and make beautiful music. We think beautiful music,” he recently told Ellen DeGeneres.

Cee Lo is back at it with another lyric video for his newest song ‘Anyway.’ After the success of Lady Killer, Green is releasing a upgraded version, Lady Killer (Platinum Addition). The shiny new record will also include the new tracks “Love Gun” and “Scarlet Fever”, a collaboration with Lauren Bennett (the party rocker most commonly known for her work with LMFAO) and “No One’s Gonna Love You”, a Band of Horses cover.
“Anyway” was written by Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo and seems to be the antithesis of Cee Lo’s massively popular “F*ck You”. It’s a love song that suggests he somehow worked things out with his last lover or he’s moved on to someone new. Either way, it shows Cee Lo is a little bi-polar when it comes to his love life.
The song is full of hooky falsettos and an easily digestible melody that your co-workers will be humming for weeks. Overall, this is a strong effort from Cee Lo and it yet again demonstrates Cuomo’s versatility as a songwriter. It’s no “F*ck You” but breakup songs are always better than love songs, are they not?
Listen to the song posted below.
Christina Aguilera to be the next J.Lo?
After reports of Aguilera being in talks with producers from the new NBC show, The Voice, the news has finally broken that this genie-in-a-bottle is set to join Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine (from Maroon 5, for those who have forgotten) as the third host on the Mark Burnett singing competition.
According to Perez Hilton, Aguilera issued a statement, saying:
“I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it. To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists’ careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms. I am so happy to be working with fellow Grammy Award winners Adam and Cee Lo as I feel there is so much we can all bring to The Voice.”
After all the professional setbacks this talented singer has had recently – like getting arrested with her boyfriend for public intoxication and driving under the influence, shortly after tripping onstage at the Grammy’s during her Aretha Franklin tribute – we can’t wait to see this 30-year-old get back on her feet!
“When I decided to produce ‘The Voice,’ I immediately knew that my first choice for a female coach had to be Christina Aguilera,” Burnett said in the statement. “Christina has a perfect voice and is an undeniable force in the music business. She is the epitome of ‘The Voice.’ ”
Only problem is, will this new show be able to compete with American Idol? We already saw what happened to Paula Abdul’s Live to Dance, which after one season is reportedly over – let’s just hope that this one will have a longer life than that!

Gwyneth Paltrow did an awesome job on “Glee” by performing “Forget You,” and with that performance she caught the attention of Cee Lo Green. Now Cee Lo and Paltrow are going to start recording together.
“I am actually supposed to go into the studio with her in the next few days. We are doing another personalized version of ‘Forget You and we may do something spontaneous,” Cee Lo told PopEater.
We actually spoke with Cee Lo recently ourselves where we talked about a ton of things related to music. See below and check it out.
A Hip-Hop Guru, genius songwriter, co-producer and self-proclaimed “soul machine…” Cee-Lo Green goes by many different monikers. Most recently this Grammy nominated artist churned out arguably the track of the year. “Fuck You” is a soulful, cathartic, almost “mombo number five” type of phenomenon with way more staying power than anything Lou Bega ever penned. andPOP’s Jordan Bortolotti grilled the man behind the masterpiece about his most recent creation “The Lady Killer.”
