Britney Spears is searching for a homeless man who wants Britney’s new album. Britney came across a picture of the man holding a sign saying he needs cash to buy her latest CD.

“Need to get new Britney Spears CD. Anything will help. God bless”.

Now Spears has posted the picture of the man on micro-blogging site Twitter and asked fans to try and locate the man, reports contactmusic.

“If anyone can find this gentleman I’ve got a package with my entire catalog (sic) with his name on it… -Britney, ” the 29-year-old posted.

Britney – are you serious? The homeless guy is obviously trying to be funny. Besides, what is he going to play your music on? We don’t think he owns a stereo or an iPod.

Vampire Weekend, Beck, Of Montreal to Appear on Haiti Benefit CD

Vampire Weekend, Beck, Of Montreal and Noah and the Whale are among the artists who are set to appear on an upcoming Haiti benefit album, reports NME.com.

“Hear To Help,” a collaboration between Filter Magazine and American Eagle, will raise money for Oxfam America’s Haitian relief effort.

The CD will be sold through American Eagle stores in North America for $10, and an online version will be released tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb. 24) from AE.com.

War Child Canada celebrates 10 years with new compilation

If there’s one thing War Child does almost as well as raising awareness and support for children affected by war, it’s releasing compilation albums.

To commemorate the organization’s tenth anniversary, yet another impressive album is being released featuring some of the year’s biggest voices in music, thanks to Universal Music.

“Universal Music Canada is thrilled to be deepening our relationship with War Child. It is a great honour to be releasing an album that will continue to assist War Child’s mission around the world,” said Randy Lennox, President & CEO of Universal.

“Let It Rain” by Sy’rai ft. A.U.C.A.Y.D. will be the first single from War Child: 10, a song recorded in Freetown, Sierra Leone. A.U.C.A.Y.D. (Artists United for the Development of Children and Youth) runs a series of youth empowerment workshops, where children are invited to participate in activities surrounding music, drama and dance. War Child was originally founded by filmmakers Brian Wilson and Bill Leeson in 1993, and has established head offices in Canada, the UK and the Netherlands. Members of the charity work with communities in Afghanistan, Darfur (Sudan), Uganda, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka and Georgia.

Aside from the ground work in these countries, War Child has established an international calling card with its work from major artists around the world. Help: A Day in the Life was released in 1995 as the charity’s first musical effort, and the project continued to spiral from there. The 2005 release of Help: A Day in the Life, featuring an all-new lineup of musicians became the fastest-downloading album in music history.

War Child:10 is a star-studded affair, featuring Radiohead, New Order, Wolfmother, and Muse, among others, performing exclusive covers.

The album was compiled over a series of weeks when War Child began canvassing musicians to contribute, often not a difficult task for the organization that has garnered contributions from U2, Luciano Pavarotti, Oasis, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Bloc Party, and Damien Rice among many, many others.

A number of the songs were gathered from previous recordings, such as Coldplay’s “How You See the World” and Radiohead’s “I Want None of This” which both appeared on Help: A Day in the Life. Among the new musicians, are Australia’s Wolfmother covering “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” by Neil Young, and New Order reworking a classic Jimmy Cliff protest song “Vietnam” for their first ever charity contribution.

Oasis also reappears on War Child: 10 with the first song ever recorded for the charity. In 1995, Oasis recorded a mellowed out version of their song “Fade Away” and handed it over to War Child.

The Kooks and Beck both appeared on the last War Child album, Heroes, featuring new artists covering old classics, such as The Kooks singing The Kinks’ “Victoria” and Beck performing Bob Dylan’s “Leapord-Skin Pill-box Hat.”

There is even a Patti Smith song rounding out the compilation – “People Have the Power” was re-recorded by Chantal Kreviazuk, Liam Titcomb, Shiloh and Lucas Silveira of The Cliks. Another Canadian contribution comes from K’Naan in the form of a bonus track, “Does It Really Matter?”, a cultural analysis of the changes in pop culture mimicking grander social reform.

Michael Jackson’s Soundtrack For Documentary OK’d By Judge

It looks as though the King of Pop will live on, not just in spirit, but in a documentary entitled “Michael Jackson’s This Is It.” Less than a week after the trailer for the eagerly anticipated production debuted during the VMAs, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has approved a deal to release a soundtrack to the film.

According to the LA Times, Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved a deal on Thursday afternoon that gives Jackson’s longtime label home, Sony Music Entertainment, permission to release a CD to accompany the film, which chronicles Jackson’s rehearsals for what was to be his comeback residency at the O2 arena in London.

“This Is It” is slated to open on October 28 and play in theaters for two weeks. According to mtvnews.com, the attorney for the administrators of Jackson’s estate said that in order for the album to be completed on time, Sony has to begin work on it right away. There is no information on what songs might be included on the disc.

The release of the movie and CD could be a potential cash boon for the reportedly debt-ridden Jackson estate, which will reportedly give the singer’s children and their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, more than $86,000 a month in living expenses from the estate. Estimates from the court have the Jackson estate valued at $500 million.

CD Review: Jewel – Good-bye Alice in Wonderland

Singer Jewel seems to have given up her aspirations from her last album to be another Britney Spears and has almost gone back to her roots with her new CD, “Good-bye Alice in Wonderland.”

Jewel began her career with her folky-popish CD “Pieces of Me.” Up until her last album, that was pretty much how she stayed. But then there was a new Jewel who was no longer a girl with a guitar asking who will save our souls, but instead was a girl showing some leg, whose soul needed to be saved.

Luckily for Jewel fans, the old Jewel we all remember has returned with her new CD. “Good-bye Alice in Wonderland” is a collection of Jewel songs that die-hard fans will love. However, the CD is missing the pop hook that made her debut CD, and then her sophomore CD so wonderful, which means non-Jewel fans may not find it as exciting.

The songs chronicle her journey from her home of Alaska to her move to California before she was so famous. However, the CD does not have any songs that will be monster hits like “Who Will Save Your Soul” and “You Were Meant For Me,” but it does showcase Jewel’s amazing songwriting skills with songs like “Again and Again.”

Universal Music To Slash Wholesale CD Prices

In a shocking move yesterday, Universal Music, the world’s largest record company, said it would cut wholesale prices by up to $3 per CD, due to a 31% drop in sales over the last 3 years (industry wide).

Current wholesale prices per CD start at $12.02USD, with the average retail price being $18.98USD. Under the new pricing scheme, Universal hopes that retailers will also cut their prices by $3, bringing the average CD to about $10USD.

“Our new pricing model will enable U.S. retailers to offer music at a much more appealing price point in comparison to other entertainment products,” Jim Urie said. “We are confident this pricing approach will drive music fans back into retail stores.”

It is unknown at this time if these new prices will affect worldwide distribution channels or just in the United States. You can expect to see these lower prices beginning October 1st.
