Amanda Bynes has been receiving rave reviews for her portrayal of Penny in the big-screen adaptation of Hairspray, which opens today (Friday, July 20).

But the girl who can act, tell jokes and design clothes doesn’t want to continue singing – and yes, that really is her singing in Hairspray.

She’s been approached in the past about recording an album when nobody even knew if she had the pipes or not, but she’s brushed off all offers because she had no interest in a singing career.

With the release of Hairspray, the record labels are sure to come calling once again. They might as well not even try to locate her number.

Bynes said that she has no plans to record an album, unlike other teen queens, past and present, like Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Heroes star Hayden Panettiere.

“I don’t think I would. That’s a whole other full time job,” Bynes told andPOP. “It’s a completely different industry and I feel like my job is stressful enough and so exhausting that I can’t really go and start singing at the point in time.”

With such a busy lifestyle, what can’t Amanda Bynes do?

“There’s plenty I can’t do but I’m trying to capitalize on the things I can,” she said. “Words to live by.”

Bynes’ next role will be playing the title character in Sydney White, opening in September, based on the classic Snow White tale.
