Busta Rhymes Signs Deal with Google Music

Posted by Natalia Buia on November 23rd, 2011

Everyone always jokes about how CDs will one day become like the polaroid camera, or dinosaurs – extinct! When software like iTunes is put on the table, how long before CDs actually become extinct?

Google Music is the latest product to help distribute music digitally and not tangibly. Veteran rapper Busta Rhymes appeared at last week’s Google Music launch and announced he’s relying on the company to launch his latest album, appropriately titled “E.L.E. Extinction Level Event”.

The Hollywood Reporter says the rapper’s looking for new ways to release his music in a world that’s evolved from record players to CDs to MP3s.

“I come from pre-Internet — not trying to sound like a dinosaur, but the success of [our records] wasn’t always determined by how much it spun on the radio…You have that outlet of 100 million, 200 million Android phones, YouTube, Google itself and every other medium that comes as a perk with the situation. It exposes your music,” he says of his deal with Google Music.

There are reports of other bands like Coldplay and Maroon 5 signing up to distribute songs and concert footage via Google Music. This is a great thing for Google but will it be a great thing to DVD and CD sales? Probably not when everyone’s buying digital copies. From the looks of how smoothly things with iTunes and Google Music are going, we may be seeing compact discs in museums in the next decade.

Busta Rhymes Caught Calling and Driving

Posted by andPOP Staff on November 4th, 2006

The last couple times rapper Busta Rhymes has had run-ins with the law, they were in connection with an assault and a murder. But when Rhymes was stopped by police again on Thursday night, it was for something much more tame: he was calling and driving.

Rhymes (real name Trevor Smith) was pulled over at about 7 p.m. when police spotted him driving by a Manhattan police station while talking on his cell phone.

Rhymes was issued a summons for the moving violation, police said on Friday.

The rap star is currently in the middle of an assault case. He appeared in court last month on a charge for allegedly attacking a man who spit on his car in August, and will return to court Dec. 11.

Police are also trying to get Rhymes to talk as a witness in the case of his bodyguard Israel Ramirez, who was shot to death in February. So far, Rhymes has not been cooperating.

Busta Rhymes Arrested On Assault Charges

Posted by andPOP Staff on August 21st, 2006

Rapper Busta Rhymes has been arrested in New York, after attacking a man who spit on his car on Saturday, according to reports.

Busta Rhymes, real name Trevor Smith, was on Randall’s Island performing at the AmsterJam Music Festival, promoting his new album called “The Big Bang.” It was that night a man spit on his car and was beaten by Rhymes, reports several outlets.

Rhymes tried to leave the area after being informed the police were after him, but was apprehended.

Rhymes was taken on a third-degree assault charge and was later released.

However, Rhymes and his camp feel that the charges against him were some form of revenge by the New York Police Department. They feel that he should have only received a desk appearance ticket, but wasn’t qualified because of the significance of the charge, reports New York Daily News.

Rhymes feels that the police were after him because he refused to be questioned in the February 5 shooting of his bodyguard Israel Ramirez.

Rhymes is due back in court on October 24th, 2006.
