Sacha Baron Cohen Sued by Gay Journalist over Bruno Incident

Sacha Baron Cohen is being sued yet again over one of his movies. This time it’s a gay journalist claiming he was roughed up by a camera crew shooting “Bruno.”

PopEater reports the incident took place in November 2008 during a pro-gay marriage rally in downtown Los Angeles.

Mike Skiff, a gay video journalist, recognized the “gay Austrian fashion journalist” Bruno, and started to film him. The lawsuit claims Cohen’s crew didn’t like this, and begain threatening Skiff and pushing him.

Skiff is suing for $25,000 in damages for alleged physical and emotional pain and suffering. You can see the video below.

Malaysian Censorship: Bruno Banned

Less than a week after it was reported that Beyonce was forced to severely tone down her liberated, subtly sexual performance in Malaysia , Kuala Lumpur officials deemed Bruno inappropriate for the population’s viewing, thestar.com reports. The National Film Censorship Board in Malaysia has cut off the public viewing of British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s portrayal of a flamboyantly homosexual Austrian fashionista. The barrier-crossing film contained numerous clips of Cohen’s Bruno engaging in sexual acts with another man, along with scenes that included full frontal nudity and plenty of other excessively sexual scenes. Despite criticism of the films gratuitous sexual content, it was commercial success across North America.

The move is centered firmly around homosexual themes, and this was likely the central issue behind its ban in Malaysia. Their large Muslim population is extremely critical of homosexuality.CCohen’s previous movie, Borat, where he portrayed an ignorant Kazakh reporter travelling through the U.S., was also banned in Malaysia.

Bruno Heading to Court

A man labelled a terrorist in Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie Bruno says he would like to take the star to court after he was tricked into appearing in the movie, reports Perez Hilton. Ayman Abu Aita said Baron Cohen told him he was being interviewed for a documentary on the struggles facing the Palestinian cause and was never told the film was a joke.

“He said he is a German actor making documentaries watched by young people,” said Aita. ”He wanted to make a story to mobilize the young people to help us. I didn’t have any impression he would use my interview in a bad way.”

Although Aita was once a member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, he has since left his terrorist associations behind and now works as a board member of the Holy Land Trust.

The film also has audiences talking about a humorous stint featuring American Idol‘s Paula Abdul.

Bruno has earned $30.6 million at the box office since its July 10 opening and has a rating of 6.2 out of 10 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Scene Cut From Bruno Following Michael Jackson’s Death

A scene featuring La Toya Jackson has been permanently deleted from Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming film Bruno, Entertainment Weekly reports.

“Out of respect for the Jackson family, the filmmakers have decided to remove a small scene involving La Toya Jackson,” said Universal Studios in a statement.

The scene, previously seen by journalists, featured Baron Cohen’s character, Bruno, interviewing La Toya about her brother, Michael, and searching through her cell phone for Michael’s number.

After Michael Jackson’s death was reported, those behind the film quickly deleted the scene, just hours before the movie’s premiere at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.

Fox News reports Michael Jackson’s star on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk-of-Fame was covered by the red carpet put down for the Bruno premiere, and fans seeking to lay flowers on the King of Pop’s star mistakenly went to the star belonging to another Michael Jackson, a radio talk show host.

Bruno is set to hit theatres July 10.

Eminem Opens Up About Brüno Incident

In case you missed the 2009 MTV movie awards, this is what went down (literally): Sacha Baron Cohen — as his fashionista character Brüno — dropped from the rafters of the Gibson Amphitheatre through the help of wires, landing butt-naked on Eminem’s face.

The rapper appeared to be furious and stormed out of the award ceremony with his posse. After a few days, Eminem finally broke the silence on Wednesday (June 3) to RapRadar.com.

“Sacha [Baron Cohen] called me when we were in Europe and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the Movie Awards. I’m a big fan of his work so I agreed to get involved with the gag,” he told RapRadar.com. “I’m thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it. It had so many people going ‘nuts,’ so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it.”

As for where he went after leaving the awards ceremony, Eminem explained, “After the ceremony I went back to my hotel and laughed uncontrollably for about three hours. Especially after I saw it on-air”.
