Bruce Springsteen will bid farewell to New Jersey’s Giants Stadium this fall as the final music act to rock the soon-to-be-demolished sporting venue.
Springsteen made the announcement this week during his show at the nearby Izod Center, telling the crowd that he and his “wrecking crew” – the E Street Band – have a three-concert stint at the stadium scheduled for Sept. 30, Oct. 2 and Oct. 3.
Tickets for those shows go on sale June 1 at 10 a.m. EST.

Selling 179,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, The Fray topped the Billboard album chart, taking the No. 1 spot from Bruce Springsteen who sold 102,000 copies of his latest album “Working on a Dream,” per Nielsen SoundScan.
Dierks Bentley landed the No. 3 spot with “Feel That Fire,” which sold 71,000 and managed to top the Country Albums chart, taking away Taylor Swift’s three-month rule. Swift now holds the No. 4 spot on Billboard with her album “Fearless.”
Rockers Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are expected to top the charts next week after their leading Grammy win, including Album of the Year, on Sunday.
Other album-sale winners include Beyoncé, who holds the No. 5 spot with “I am…Sasha Fierce,” “Dark Horse” by Nickelback which landed the No. 6 spot followed by Kidz Bop with their latest album “Kidz Bop 15.”
The top ten charts finish with Jamie Foxx’s “Intuition” at No. 8, “808s & Heartbreak” by Kanye West at No. 9, followed by Keyshia Cole’s “A Different Me”.
It took eight weeks for another album to top the Billboard albums chart: Bruce Springsteen was able to knock Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” album from the No. 1 spot with “Working On A Dream”.
According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Springsteen’s latest album will top the album’s chart on sales of 223,000. Meanwhile Taylor Swift will hold onto the No. 2 spot.
Despite his widely viewed performance at the inauguration of President Barack Obama and his Super Bowl appearance, Springsteen’s latest album sold 100,000 fewer copies than the band’s 2007 album “Magic” in its first week.
Beyoncé’s “I Am … Sasha Fierce” landed the No. 3 spot selling 51,000 copies followed by “Dark Horse,” the latest from Nickelback. Kanye West’s “808s & Heartbreak” earned the No. 5 spot with 33,000 copies, while the newcomer 2009 Grammy Nominees is at No.6 with 32,000. Jamie Foxx follows with “Intuition” (31,000) and “A Different Me” by Keyshia Cole reaches No. 8.
It seems like Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” has been scaring off the other albums. The country singer’s sophomore album has landed the No. 1 spot for the past seven weeks.
Swift’s album sold 63,000 for the week that ended Sunday according to Nielsen SoundScan.
But it looks like her No. 1 spot will be taken by next week. Bruce Springsteen is en route to landing the top spot with his album “Working on a Dream.” Meanwhile, Mariah Carey landed at the No. 10 spot with “Ballads.”
Bon Iver scored the No. 1 spot in the Digital Albums chart, his EP “Blood Bank” sold 18,000 of its 23,000 copies through downloads. However, it didn’t score as high on the Billboard 200 chart, landing at No. 16.
The good news for artists is that total album sales have increased by nine per cent from last week. The bad news is that compared to the same week in 2008, album sales have decreased by 12 per cent.

Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel are rallying their fellow countrymen behind Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama with upcoming shows around the U.S.
Jay-Z will play two free concerts this weekend, one at Detroit’s Cobo Arena on Saturday and the other at Miami’s Bayfront Park on Sunday, aimed at getting fans to vote.
Anyone who registers to vote at the local Obama campaign office will receive a free ticket.
Both Detroit and Miami are in key battleground states with Oct. 6 registration deadlines.
Meanwhile, Springsteen and Joel have announced they will play a fundraiser for Obama at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Oct. 16.
The show, for which tickets range from $500 to 10,000, marks the first time the two icons have ever played at the same concert.
Other guests are expected to be announced shortly.
Springsteen endorsed Obama on his website in April, saying the Illinois senator has “the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience” to be the next U.S. President.
“He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years,” he wrote.
Bruce Springsteen’s marriage is just fine, thank you very much.
The Associated Press reports that Springsteen has decided to clear up the rumours that he and wife of 18 years, Patti Scialfa, are breaking up by a post on his official website.
“Due to the unfounded and ugly rumors that have appeared in the papers over the last few days, I felt they shouldn’t pass without comment. Patti and I have been together for 18 years — the best 18 years of my life. We have built a beautiful family we love and want to protect and our commitment to one another remains as strong as the day we were married,” Springsteen wrote.
The response was posted after the New York Post reported that Springsteen’s marriage was on the rocks after he became closer with a Sept. 11 widow. The article quoted unnamed sources.
Springsteen and Scialfa have been together since 1991 and the couple has three kids together.
