Bret Michaels is suing the Tony Awards over a head injury he received at the June 2009 awards, reports People Magazine. A lawsuit was filed by the musician on Friday in Los Angeles, according to documents obtained by People.
Michaels’s attorney, Alex Weingarten, issued the following statement: “The Tony Awards dropped a piece of the stage on Bret’s head, and then instead of doing the right thing, joked about it and played it off for ratings … Bret never wanted to file a lawsuit, but the Tony Awards have left us with no choice. They must be held accountable for almost killing Bret, and that is what we are going to do.”
The musician, who performed at the Tonys with his band Poison and the cast of Rock of Ages, fell down after being hit by a piece of scenery. He was knocked to the ground, and fractured his nose. The singer also required three stitches in his lip.
Michaels is suing CBS and the Tony Awards for unspecified damages, and claims that despite his asking producers for instructions on where to stand on the Radio City Music Hall stage during his performance, he was only told to “simply exit the stage from the rear.”
According to the suit, “Michaels was never told that the scenery piece would be descending or given any warning of the existence of the dangers it presented. Quite the opposite, Michaels specifically asked for instructions regarding how to exit after his performance and was just told to walk off the rear of the stage – in what was ultimately the danger zone.”
So far, there has been no comment from CBS or the Tony Awards.
This is a pretty big issue. I can’t believe the Tony people aren’t taking responsibility for this – just own up to it. I have a strong feeling that Michaels will win the case, because really, what can they counter with? Are they actually going to try and say its his fault for walking into the falling piece of scenery? I wish the best of luck to Michaels in this case, and am on his side. If a falling piece of equipment smashed me in the head, I would be pretty pissed too.
After sixteen years of dating and two daughters, Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson are now engaged. Michaels popped the question on the Monday night finale of his VH1 reality show, “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It.”
Michaels got on one knee and said “Please say yes or the rejection will kill me right now,” luckily she said yes. Rumors have been circulating since the summer when Gibson was seen walking around with a huge rock on her finger. Michaels however said it was “a promise ring … a friendship ring, with benefits. That’s what we call it.”
We wish the best of luck to the young couple!
TMZ is reporting that Miley Cyrus was initially supposed to perform her rendition of Every Rose Has It’s Thorn on last night’s AMAs – until rumors surfaced that her mama Tish was romantically involved with the rocker who wrote the ballad, Bret Michaels.
Two sources connected to the AMAs say that the rundown of the show was changed on Thursday to accommodate Mileybird’s last minute decision. It’s been said that Miley seriously considered keeping the song, but decided instead to replace it with Love and Forgiveness.
Bret Michaels has strongly denied rumors of hooking up with Tish on multiple occasions, insisting that they are “just good friends.”
We can see why Miley would want to drop the song, but this doesn’t really help on the rumor mill front!
After his amazing recovery from a brain hemorrhage in April, Bret Michaels is headed back to the hospital to repair a hole in his heart. RadarOnline reports its a condition he has had since birth.
This condition was found after Michaels had a stroke, but he is positive about the outcome according to his rep.
“He said that there are times when, of course, he worries but he has great people around him and he’s cautious,” the source said.
“He’ll rest up, have surgery, take some time off, hopefully take a family vacation and get back on the road touring and promoting his upcoming book,” the rep said.
Michaels’ new VH1 series ‘Bret Michaels: Life As You Know It’ will premiere on Oct. 18.
Miley Cyrus appeared on Good Morning America Friday morning to promote her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, reports People.
During her interview, Miley made it clear that she’s dropping the Disney look for good, saying, “This record is the first album where it’s completely me.”
“It’s always going to be hard because there’s so much stuff you’ve got to get through before you can get to the stuff that’s real,” says Miley. “There’s all the people that are like, ‘Yes! It’s gonna be great! You’re the biggest thing ever!’ when really, I just want the truth. ”
As her Disney Channel series Hannah Montana comes to an end, Miley is set to show off what she says is really inside of her. “You have to be who you are to the full,” she said during the interview. ”There’s nothing that I’m holding back. And that’s what I want to give to my girl fans. Just be who you are.”
Miley also performed a duet of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with none other than Bret Michaels himself on the morning show Friday. “She’s a great musician and she’s one of those people who will make that huge transition into remaining a superstar. She can rock it for sure,” says Michaels.
What do you think? Is this new look the real Miley Cyrus is, or is it just a shift in the young singer’s brand?
Following a brain hemorrhage, Bret Michaels’ form of recovery hasn’t been bed rest and chicken soup—far from it, reports People.com. After suffering the hemorrhage, Michaels got right back to doing what he loves: Performing.
He won The Celebrity Apprentice, kicked off a solo concert tour, and is filming a new reality show titled Life As I Know It, with VH1. Michaels wants to be known for his music and his passion for life.
“I don’t want my legacy to be that I had a brain hemorrhage,” says Michaels. “I want it to be that I rocked, I treated people with respect and I made a lot of good friends along the way. I think that came back to me when I got sick. I truly believe if you’re a good person, and you spread love, then that love will come back to you.”
The new reality show, Life As I Know It, will show a personal side of Michaels, showcasing his life as a father to his two daughters and the relationship he shares with their mother, Kristi Lynn Gibson.
VH1 executive vice president Jeff Olde says, “”I think he’s genuinely happy to be alive and happy for all the things he has in his life, but he’s really always been that way.”
Bret Michael’s recently spoke with PopEater where he makes it very clear he wants to be part of “American Idol.”
As Simon Cowell is moving on from “Idol,” Michaels believes he would make an excellent replacement. Below is an excerpt from that interview regarding his maybe “Idol” participation.
There’s lots of buzz saying you may replace Simon Cowell on ‘Idol,’ and our readers overwhelmingly voted for you to be the next judge. Is that a responsibility you’d want?
This is a good question, and here’s why — I’d be honored to do it. I feel there’s one area I shine in, it’s giving musicians unbelievable advice. When you talk about being a judge, Simon did an amazing job. He cut to the chase with his brutal honesty. Mine would be less brutal and with more advice along with the judging. I’ll say that wasn’t the right song, do you have what it takes? My life is all-encompassing … it’s being a performer, as well as a singer-songwriter and a producer. I can cover every aspect of the business for them. I’d be honored to do it and fans would be blown away by the advice. Everyone thinks when you get a record deal, you’ve made it. I say the exact opposite. You have a foot in the door, now how do you last 20 years. What’s going to make fans watch ‘Idol’ and see a kid write a great song, and 20 years from now they still want to see you playing music. I would love to do it and I could give killer advice.
Bret Michaels is set to take the stage Friday, reports TMZ. Following his win on The Celebrity Apprentice and his surprise performance on the American Idol finale, the Poison frontman is pumped up and ready to perform again.
Michaels will perform Friday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Biloxi, MS.
Sources tell TMZ that Michaels was examined by a doctor on Thursday and everything was fine.
The performance, however, does go against his doctor’s orders. The doctor is not in favour of his patient performing, saying that Michaels is not “100%.”
If you’ve followed the story for Bret Michaels, you know that keeping him tied down is not an option. To make sure everything goes well, though, precautions will be taken. A source has said “Bret will be slower on stage,” medical personal will be on-hand, and the air conditioning will be cranked up to keep him cool.
Bret Michaels surprised everyone last night by taking the stage during the season finale of Fox’s “American Idol.”
Michaels popped on stage to sing “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” during Casey James’ performance of the classic Poison song.
tooFab.com reports the crowd went insane when Michaels took the stage and had the entire audience on their feet. Michaels even stuck around during the commercial break to shake hands with the crowd.
Michaels appearance was very surprising after recently suffering some medical hiccups. On April 22 Bret was hospitalized for a brain hemorrhage, and last week he was hospitalized for heart problems.
After suffering what is commonly referred to as a warning stroke Thursday, a rep for Bret Michaels said that the Celebrity Apprentice contestant plans to attend the show’s finale.
“As far as I know, Bret will be there unless his doctors tell him otherwise,” Bret’s rep tells People. Michaels will be going up against fellow contestant Holly Robinson Peete in an attempt to raise money for his chosen charity, the American Diabetes Association.
“We’re cautiously optimistic that he will attend the finale,” the rep continues. “But ultimately, it’s up to his doctors.”
People reports that a medical professional from NYU Comprehensive Stroke Care Center, who has not treated Michaels, says it should be okay for the rock star to fly to the finale, as he is currently being given blood thinners which will prevent further clotting.
The finale of The Celebrity Apprentice takes place on Sunday, May 23rd.
Bret Michaels is back in hospital after doctors claim they found a “hole in his heart.”
According to Bret’s rep, the singer was complaining about “numbness on the left side of his body, predominately his face and hands.”
TMZ reports that doctors performed numerous tests on Michaels, identifying that he had suffered “Transient Ischemic Attack” — more commonly referred to as a “warning stroke.”
Further examination showed that Michaels had a Patent Forum Ovale – which is essentially a hole in his heart. However it is believed to be “operable and treatable.”
Although Bret Michaels suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, the rocker is hoping to head back on tour next month.
Michaels’ condition was recently upgraded to stable according to PerezHilton. However he still has a risk of seizures due to lack of sodium in his body.
The following statement was released on his website:
“While Bret is recovering we obviously have some shows that are being rescheduled. We are working to reschedule dates from now until May 21st
At this time we are planning to resume the tour May 26th in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, provided there are no further complications or setbacks. We will then continue with all scheduled dates throughout the summer and fall, including the June and July tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd
While additional studies are planned throughout the week to hopefully detect the exact cause of the rupture, Bret will remain monitored closely by his medical team to make sure no further complications occur. He is responding well to tests and treatments.
Even though yesterday was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday.”
PEOPLE reports that Bret Michaels continues to be hospitalized and is under “intense observation.”
A rep tells PEOPLE “There are several incorrect reports on Bret’s condition. Bret remains in critical condition … Further tests are being ran and information will be updated in the coming days.”
Michaels recently had an emergency appendectomy after feeling ill before a show. He later blogged about his health.
“This was a wake-up call to be a little bit more diligent on keeping control of my health,” he told fans. “I want to still have a great time, but … I need to find something healthier to do on my day off then going out and finding a club to go hang out at. It’s part of finding balance in my life.”
What started as a headache for rocker Bret Michaels turned into something much more serious, PEOPLE reports.
Michaels was experiencing an excruciating headache Thursday night before he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. According to a source close to the situation, it was there that doctors discovered he suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage – bleeding at the base of his brain stem.
The 47-year-old singer is currently in critical condition.
“After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause. [It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation,” the source says.
His reps confirm that the information is accurate and said, “We will have no additional information until further testing is done.”
Earlier this month Michaels was rushed into a San Antonio, Texas hospital for an emergency appendectomy. There is no word whether this hospital visit is related to his recent appendectomy or his diabetes.
After his appendectomy, the Poison front man remained in the hospital under his doctors’ care, before being transferred to a rehab facility specializing in diabetic patients.
He remained in good spirits while he was recovering and updated fans on his progress. He was also still in the running to win this season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.
The Pennsylvania native wrote a note to his fans about the pain he experienced.
“They told me that if I had gone on stage like I wanted to, [my appendix] likely would have ruptured and I could have died. There is just no way around the fact that getting your appendix out HURTS. I have a pretty good threshold for pain, but this one hurts.”
It’s crazy when you look back at a night and say – “Wow I almost died!” Bret Michaels is doing that after he now realizes that he could have died if he had gone on stage last week.
On April 11th the singer was rushed to hospital for an emergency appendectomy. “They told me that if I had gone onstage like I wanted to, [my appendix] likely would have ruptured and I could have died,” the rocker and “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant wrote this weekend in a note to fans on his blog.
Although his recovery is going well, he explains that he is still in pain.
“When you’re not planning on having a body part ripped out of you, it can be a shock to the system,” he writes. “While the doctors are amazing in San Antonio, there is just no way around the fact that getting your appendix out HURTS. I have a pretty good threshold for pain, but this one hurts.”
Bret Michaels, the lead singer of Poison, was not hurt when a car crashed into his tour bus on a Toronto highway Saturday, reports Perez Hilton. The accident resulted in a five-car pile-up, causing damage to all of the vehicles, but no major injuries.
Michaels, star of the VH1 reality dating show Rock of Love, was on his way to St. Paul, Minnesota for a solo show after playing at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto. He is scheduled to rejoin his band on tour Tuesday in Connecticut.
Poison frontman Bret Michaels has been dabbling in the world of reality TV in recent years, and now he’s adding another venture to his resume: writing.
Michaels’ autobiography, “Roses And Thorns: The Rock ‘N’ Fantasy To My Reality,” will hit stores this June via Simon & Shuster, and the singer is promising to tell all.
“It will give people the untold story,” Michaels told Billboard. “It gives you the sex, the drugs, the rock ‘n’ roll, but it also gives you the diabetes. It gives you every aspect of my life and what I’m going through.”
