Beyonce Beats Out Cook and Nickelback

Beyoncé Knowles’ double-disk “I Am…Sasha Fierce” beat out new albums by rockers Nickelback and American Idol winner David Cook. The singer earned her third No. 1 album with 485,000 copies sold.

Meanwhile Nickelback took the No. 2 spot selling 327,000 copies followed by David Cook (289,000). In her new album, Beyoncé unleashes her alter ego, Sasha Fierce. Up until now, her slightly more aggressive ego has only appeared in live performances.

Beyoncé’s new album topped the debut of 2003’s “Dangerously in Love” by approximately 166,000 copes, but followed under “B-Day” released in 2006.

Still, Taylor Swift emerges as the winner of 2008’s biggest female debut with 592,000 albums sold for “Fearless”. The album landed at the No.4 spot this week.

Nickelback has recently announced the launch of a North American tour followed by the success of the album “Dark Horse”. And while debuting at No.3, David Cook won the title of most digital copies sold for a new album, selling 59,000 digital copies.

Beyonce Knowles? Call her Sasha

Beyonce Knowles has multiple personalities. Like Mariah Carey a.k.a. “Mimi,” Beyonce says she too has an alter ego – and her name is Sasha.

“I wouldn’t like Sasha if I met her offstage,” Knowles says of her onstage persona in an interview with Parade Magazine. “Oh, no. She’s too aggressive, too strong, too sassy, too sexy! I’m not her in real life at all. I’m not flirtatious and super-confident and fearless like her.”

In the magazine’s Dec. 17 issue, Beyonce tells Parade she created Sasha to distance herself from her celebrity: “I created my stage persona to protect myself so that when I go home, I don’t have to think about what it is I do. Sasha isn’t me. The people around me know who I really am.”

The singer-actress, currently in a high-profile relationship with hip hop mogul Jay-Z, also talks about love: “When I’m in love, I’m there 100 percent. But if I don’t trust someone, if I’m not totally there because of it, then I’m not going to waste my time.”

Knowles is currently getting ready for the premiere of the movie musical “Dreamgirls,” where she stars as singer Deena Jones. The movie is set to open on Friday but is already gaining a lot of Oscar buzz for the Grammy-winning singer and her co-stars, American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Foxx.

Longoria Dispells Rumours of Lesbian Role

Eva Longoria has spoken out against rumours that she is set to appear as Beyonce Knowles’ girlfriend in an upcoming film.

The rumours, which started about a week ago, also mentioned that Sofia Coppola would be directing the movie.

“Stop the madness,” Longoria told People magazine. “Believe me, I would love to work with Beyonce one day. She’s so talented. But this is definitely not something we are doing together. It’s completely and absolutely not true.”

The film was said to be an adaptation of Sarah Waters’ book, “Tipping the Velvet.”
