Last night, Katy Perry fulfilled her teenage dream by hosting Saturday Night Live with her touring buddy Robyn as musical guest.
She’s been on a stampede of success over the past few weeks – named one of Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating People of the Year, shot down a few more divorce and pregnancy rumours, won a few American Music Awards,sported a new haircut and oh, nominated for a handful of Grammy awards. Then the singer-turned-host dawned the seemingly haunting deed of hosting Saturday Night Live. At first, she seemed insanely nervous during her opening monologue as she impersonated the Rockefeller Christmas tree, but her sexual tension with Kristen Wiig brought it back around.
Earlier this week, Perry took a break from rehearsals to talk about the experience. “It’s fun on the outside, and on the inside it’s a lot more hard work than I can ever imagine. So it’s nerve wracking but I always love a challenge and this is something new, so it’s challenging but I’m up for it. And if I completely embarrass myself, I’ll just stick to music. I’ll fall back on that.”
And that’s exactly what happened. Perry appeared through at least nine sketches where she parodied Christina Aguilera, recent musical guest Florence Welch, Pippa Middleton and herself on a Finnish talk show. Then there’s the two actors who play gay parents on the hit show “Modern Family”, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet.
Captain of the New York Yankee, Derek Jeter also made the list. It’s probably under her contract to include at least one athlete every year.

Excuse the obscure nature of this post, but in dramatic news, Oprah Winfrey is assuring the world she is not a lesbian to put an end to any swirling rumours about her and longtime gal-pal Gayle King. I’m “not even kind of a lesbian,” the TV host tells Barbara Walters in an ABC interview.
Oprah also comments on her longtime partner since 1986, American businessman Stedman Graham, and how the two are still happily together. While Graham is rarely mentioned, his union with Oprah is widely known.

A rep for Barbara Walters says that the daytime talk-show co-host is “recovering as expected” following her heart surgery, reports People.com.
The 80-year-old host of The View underwent surgery to replace a faulty heart valve on Friday.
“[Her] surgery went well and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome.”
Walters made an announcement on The View on Monday, saying that she has “known of this condition for a while now,” but wanted to keep the surgery a secret. Walters said, “I thought it best not to talk about it too far in advance.”
Walters is ready for some time off, she says. “Since the summer is coming up, I can take a nice vacation.” Her recovery is expected to last between one and three months.

Following the former American Idol contestant’s controversial performance at the American Music Awards, the network announced it was cancelling three upcoming performances by Lambert. He will not appear as scheduled on Jimmy Kimmel Live or Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve because the network claims his performance at the American Music Awards differed greatly from what was rehearsed. However, Lambert will be performing on The View and will be named one of Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009.
Controversy or not, American Idol-runner-up Adam Lambert made his chart debut at #3 this week. For Your Entertainment sold almost 200,000 albums in its first week, overtaking the New Moon soundtrack, following his controversial performance at the AMAs in New York City.

Adam Lambert is an interesting candidate, as the majority of his appeal has popped up following his AMA appearance. Openly gay, Lambert used his performance of “For Your Entertainment” to showcase a display of sado-masochistic sexuality, then shoved a male-dancer’s face into his nether-regions and kissed his keyboardist. The event caused such a stir he was dropped from ABC’s Good Morning America (the same network that airs Barbara Walters 20/20).

Both Sarah Palin and Lady Gaga have become notable sign of female empowerment world wide. Lady Gaga has endured one-hit-wonder and shock value accusations; proving herself as a popular mainstay on the international music scene.
For Lambert and Gosselin, though, it’s a different story. Gosselin’s popularity arose out of marital controversy with her husband that very conveniently played out during her reality TV show, Jon and Kate plus Eight. Lambert had minor success after American Idol, but his popularity skyrocketed when he controversially made out with a male band member during the American Music Awards and then mocked oral sex with another male on stage.
