Zac Efron revealed to Conan O’Brien last night that before he was such a hot celebrity that he had to carry condoms in his pocket, he didn’t have much game. To court the ladies, he relied on song and dance, literally donning a top hat and performing in a barbershop quartet. Well, we all know how the ladies can’t resist the mustached smile of a worthy gentleman flexing his a capella vocal muscles. SWOON.
Conan didn’t buy the strategy so he got Zac and his musical sidekick La Bamba to recreate the scene. The three men sang an a cappella version of the Beach Boys’ Barbara Ann, with Conan naturally doing the high part. It’s actually pretty good!
Would it work on you?

I can’t help it. Listening to the jibberish squeals of Gru’s minions as they try to sing the Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann” makes me go “d’aww.”
The new trailer for the sequel to Steve Carell’s Despicable Me has three of the yellow aliens combining harmonies and the fourth playing the noisemaker.
But don’t get too excited. We still have to wait until 2013 until the movie is released.
