Rocker CHRIS CORNELL quit AUDIOSLAVE as a result of disagreements over business decisions.
The ex-SOUNDGARDEN frontman joined former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE bandmates TOM MORELLO, BRAD WILK and TIM COMMERFORD to form Audioslave in 2001.
Audioslave released their third album, REVELATIONS, last September, while Cornell went solo to record the JAMES BOND theme YOU KNOW MY NAME for CASINO ROYALE and an album.
However, Cornell admits the band members “weren’t particularly getting along well.”
He tells RollingStone.com, “Getting along as people is one thing. Getting along as a group of people that can work together in a band situation. We weren’t particularly getting along well, no.
“Bands work in a way where everyone at some point has to have a similar idea of how you do things. A band that makes records and tours is also as business. That’s usually where a lot of disagreements come. It’s four guys who are musicians and don’t really know much about business, but are very passionate and have very specific ideas.
“In this case it was a collaboration that was very satisfying and we all had a great time.
“When I started I was already in the midst of a solo career. It didn’t feel to me like this was ever a band I wanted to be in if there were going to be problems being in it.
“But we ran into this issue right away, even before the first record came out. Three albums into it, it started to seem like our interests weren’t as conjoined anymore.”

Rocker CHRIS CORNELL has quit AUDIOSLAVE, citing “irresolvable personality conflicts” and “musical differences” for his decision.
The former SOUNDGARDEN frontman joined former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE bandmates TOM MORELLO, BRAD WILK and TIM COMMERFORD to form Audioslave in 2001.
After a brief split the following year, the group released hit single COCHISE and a self-titled debut.
The group followed that hit album by debuting follow-up OUT OF EXILE at number one in the US charts in 2005 and capitalized on their success as an overnight supergroup by performing a historic show in Havana, Cuba, which was filmed for DVD release LIVE IN CUBA.
Audioslave released their third album, REVELATIONS, last September, while Cornell went solo to record the BOND theme YOU KNOW MY NAME for CASINO ROYALE and an album.
The group’s future appeared shaky at the beginning of 2007 when Morello, Wilk and Commerford announced they’d be reforming Rage Against The Machine with former singer ZACH DE LA ROCHA for the upcoming Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California.
And, in a statement released yesterday, announcing the May release of Cornell’s 13th career album CARRY ON, the rock star wrote, “Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave.
“I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavours.”

Tom Morello, ex-Rage Against the Machine member and current Audioslave guitarist, was arrested last Thursday in Los Angeles while protesting alongside hotel workers.
The 42-year-old was cuffed and charged with unlawful assembly when he refused to clear off the main entrance at Los Angeles International Airport. He spent the night in jail before being released on Friday morning, reports the Associated Press.
“Bail was high,” he said, adding that every person arrested at the demonstration had to pony up $5,000 U.S. “[But] spirits were higher. We had a rousing civil rights-era-like hootenanny on ‘the inside.’”
According to Morello, about 400 people were arrested in total at the demonstration. Attendees were trying to raise awareness on the rights of immigrant hotel employees.
