For any of you naysayers who don’t think Justin Bieber has any street cred, you’ll have 2 Chainz to contend with… and Mac Miller… and another one of Scooter Braun’s clients, Asher Roth. We’ll consider them his backup.
Some critics weren’t impressed with JB’s rapping skills but this version of his latest single “Boyfriend” wipes the track clear of those verses. In said version, the rappers talk about their love life in high school and Roth even touches on Jelena (a.k.a. Selena + Justin): “We could be like Selena and Biebs/ Wild and free, a couple disobedient teens/ Sneaking out to meet around like 2 o clock in the eve/ Paparazzi in the bar and we just hot in the beach.”
Apparently it’s THE song for artists to remix. We already heard The Ying Yang Twins put their special touch on the track after it drew comparisons to “Wait.”
Luckily the three rappers don’t touch JB’s smooth verses, but this way it’s a little more hardcore. Bieber tweeted: “WHAT?!??! my bro @asherroth just sent me a verse for the ?#BFREMIX? !! crazy! adding him to it! so dope. @2chainz @macmiller @asherroth ?#REMIX.” Hawt!”
Listen to it here:
We’ve been counting how many times Justin Bieber’s rapped on the radio recently and we’re at a whopping three times now.
The Canadian singer dropped by Hot 97.5 to lay down some mad rhymes as his alter ego, Shawty Mane. The hip-hop community is going bananas at how skilled Justin is. Just watch how amazed the radio host is at the end of the video.
It’s no wonder the rumours of Justin appearing on Asher Roth’s new albums are true, according to the Hot 97.5 DJ. If you ask me, Asher and Justin would make a great rapping pair. I can even see Selena appearing in his rap videos shaking her thing.
Let’s hope Asher and Justin hook up for more collaborations and music videos we can all enjoy.
One of the hottest young rappers out of Philly, Asher Roth, has a lot to be thankful for this year, including the recent signing to Def Jam Records.
The “I Love College” rapper must really love charity too. Proceeds from his upcoming mixtape, “Pabst and Jazz”, will go towards fighting hunger in Philadelphia. The mixtape would make for a perfect Christmas date when it hits iTunes on December 20.
The Def Jam deal couldn’t come at a better time. Asher’s second studio album “Is This Too Orange?” is set to be released in March.
“Def Jam is a great place to call home,” Asher says. “I’m excited to get back to the basics with good, honest music.”
To celebrate Asher’s well deserved success, here’s his recent music video for “In The Kitche” with Chuck Inglish.
OK we know what you are thinking, here’s another white kid from the suburbs who thinks he can rap. That’s almost a completely true statement except not only does he think he can rap, a lot of experts think he can too. That’s why after making a friend request on MySpace to Scooter Braun of So So Def Records, he was signed shortly after. Check out the interview and also check out the PSA from andPOP. Please help the children!
Granted he is not what you would picture as your stereotypical rapper, but the guy is legit. In celebration of the release of his latest creation “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” Universal Music Canada and andPOP are giving away 3 signed Asher Roth posters. To enter all you need to be is Canadian (sorry to our American friends
) and send an email to contests@andpop.com with the answer to this question:
What is the name of Asher Roth’s latest album? Good luck! Also check back for an andPOP interview with Asher Roth coming very soon!
Contest ends: July 14, 2009
