‘American Dad’ Renewed, ‘King of the Hill’ Not

One popular Fox cartoon will be back next season, while another is meeting its end.

“American Dad,” which follows the lives of CIA agent Stan Smith and his family, is the returning series, having been picked up by the network for a fifth season.

The animated comedy has seen its audience grow from last year, while most scripted series have been down this fall, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

However, Fox has opted not to renew the “King of the Hill,” which is currently in its 13th season.

The Emmy-winning comedy, which revolves around the Hill family and their neighbours, is wrapping production of its final 13 episodes.

Due to the lead time for animation, the final episode will likely air sometime during the 2009-10 season.

Fans may want to hold their breath, though. The series has had several brushes with cancellation in the past, only to be brought back by Fox.

“King of the Hill” is currently the second longest running comedy in primetime, behind only “The Simpsons.”

Seth MacFarlane Seals $100 Million Deal

Peter Griffin is now a millionaire.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator and voice behind the “Family Guy” anti-hero, has just signed a deal with 20th Century Fox which makes him the highest paid writer-producer in television.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, MacFarlane could be making up to $100 million for his work on “Family Guy,” its new spinoff “The Cleveland Show” and “American Dad.” He also has a multicamera comedy in the works.

“I get a lot of pleasure out of making shows,” MacFarlane said. “It’s a bonus to be getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.”

The pact keeps MacFarlane at Fox until at least 2012. Though none of parties involved would release exact details of the deal, a Fox chairman commented that “no one will ever have to offer Seth a handout of any kind.”

That’s not the only thing MacFarlane has going for him. He is reportedly dating “Buffy” hottie Eliza Dushku.
