This headline sort of speaks for itself. If you’ve seen the video for “Life As We Know It,” you might be wondering how they got a half-naked woman to make out with a stranger in the shower. This interview answers that question and provides some insight into how things got a little out of control on set. @Jordans_life also introduces the guys to an explicit act called “the rodeo clown.”

Allstar Weekend’s Michael Martinez is the only member turned away from the camera on the cover of their new album The American Dream. Considering all the folklore behind album covers, we wanted to get to the bottom of this. Is it some type of hidden message? A conspiracy? ANDPOP’s @Jordans_Life sat down with the guys and talked to them about their cover, being unphotogenic (we beg to differ) and the evolution of music.
Watch it here:
Most people have a crappy part time job during college and spent the rest of their twenties broke. Allstar Weekend are just barely in their twenties and, thanks to their music, are doing well for themselves. We spoke to the guys about their first “major purchases” now that they have money in the bank.
The guys from Allstar Weekend suffer from a serious disability – LA-D-D. That’s a disease where a guy can’t keep focused on one girl. The boys discuss what it’s like living with this disability.
It’s hard to believe Allstar Weekend would have lady troubles. Even though they have thousands of girls willing to beat each other with flat-irons for a date with one of them. The guys told us about the girl that inspired their new video for Blame It On September.
Here at andPOP we sometimes forget that every band goes through it’s very own lifecycle. When we first interviewed Allstar Weekend, it was during the infant stages of their lifecycle and they were going through a bit of an awkward phase musically. So it was unfair of us to give them a hard time. Since then, the band recorded their newest album All The Way (2011) and we’ve all been singing “Not Your Birthday” around the office since we first heard it on the radio. Recently, the guys came back to Toronto and we felt they deserved an apology and not some half ass apology. We wanted to make sure the band got some proper retribution.
I have to admit, I gave Allstar Weekend a bit of a hard time when we first interviewed them three years ago. So I wanted to be the first to say, their sophomore release All The Way is very impressive. The guys have really grown into their sound and I think they have definitely found their own musical identity. My foot is firmly planted in my mouth and I have to give the guys credit on a solid effort. All gushing aside, Allstar Weekend have released a video for their song ‘Blame It On September’ and I can already sense we’re going to be hearing this song on every radio station across North America. Their latest track is straight-up baby making music. If you’re not careful, this song will get you pregnant… female or male.
Allstar Weekend is easily one of the most down to earth bands I’ve ever interviewed. And that’s a lot coming from me.
I met the band at The Sutton Place Hotel, which, if you know the selection of luxury hotels in Toronto, is a modest choice. Not too fancy. Pretty low key.
The band just finished a show last night at the Sound Academy, one of the last legs of their Canadian tour before heading up to London, ON. I ask how it went.
“It was really awesome seeing how many kids came out,” says Zachary, the lead singer and guitarist. “Toronto just seems like a cool city for bands, all the kids are really into it which is really exciting for us. We can’t wait to come back.”
“Fans here know our lyrics more than in America, it’s crazy. They know all the words,” says Cameron, the bassist.
Leave it to us crazy Canadians to leave an impression on them. The band also paid a visit to the MuchMusic studios a day earlier, which was of course, met with a sold out audience.
So between sold out television appearances and a passionate, driven fan base, how does the band prepare themselves for their shows?
“I like to light a bunch of candles, sit in a dark room. I’ll put on the Spice Girls,” says Nathan, the guitarist.
Selena Gomez appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday to talk her new single, “Who Says,” which she performed later on in the show.
“I felt like this single really says a lot because it’s already hard enough being 18 and figuring out who you are, and what you want to be, and people just want to constantly take you down,” Gomez told Ellen.
The song has a great message, and although it might be a bit cheesy, it does have a catchy tune! “The song is basically saying we’re all insecure,” says Gomez. “We all feel this way, and that I think everyone’s beautiful, and it’s not sad, it’s just fun. It’s just light.”
When asked if she was bullied as a kid, Gomez answered, “It wasn’t that I was bullied as a kid, I think that everybody obviously gets picked at and made fun of and I still have to obviously deal with that now.” And doesn’t she ever, with all the hate mail and death threats the young star has been receiving from Beliebers all over the world. Well WE love you Selena, and we think that you and Justin made an adorable couple!
And of course, leave it to Ellen to guilt Gomez into talking about her romance with the Biebs! When Gomez appeared on Ellen back in September, the singer/actress answered Ellen’s questioning by saying, “He’s little! He’s like my little brother…that’s weird to me!” But after showing up together arm-in-arm at the Vanity Fair party, and their shopping excursion on Bieber’s birthday, Gomez had a hard time denying it the second time around.
“Noooo,” was Gomez’s answer when Ellen asked, “But he’s not like your little brother, is he?”
“He’s sweet,” Gomez announced. As a parting gift, Ellen gave Gomez a pillow with Bieber’s face printed on it because she’s apart from Justin and she doesn’t want to miss him too much. “He’s going to make me sleep with this every night,” Gomez laughed. “Thank you for that!”
Backstage, Gomez also announced that her band, Selena Gomez and the Scene, will be touring this summer with their opening act, Allstar Weekend. The tour will kick off in Costa Mesa, CA., on July 24, 2011.
According to Perez Hilton, Gomez is thinking of adding a little Britney-love to the show. “We haven’t announced anything yet but I’m already creatively thinking about what I want and we are working on a few cover songs. We’re doing a Britney tribute which I’m so stoked about! I love Britney, I was like, ‘I have to do it, I wanna do a mash up of all her songs and just go for it. We’re gonna do her hits Baby One More Time, and then I think we’re going to try to incorporate Toxic and that phase, and then we might do some of her recent stuff.”
Can’t wait to see it, Selena! For more info and a full list of tour dates, head over to Gomez’s official website.
There is a secret recipe to pop music similar to McDonald’s. In the case of pop music, it’s basically some young, good looking kids with a decent set of pipes and some fun uplifting tunes. Allstar Weekend has basically got that formula down as the most recent pop group to hit the scene. However they argue they are not manufactured – see for yourself.
