Alice in Chains Bassist Busted with Pills

There are two ways you may have stumbled across the name Mike Starr before.

1) You were a fan of the talented bassist’s 90′s grunge band, Alice in Chains, and spent your college days doing keg-stands to “Man in the Box”. or

2) You are a fan of the hit reality show Celebrity Rehab, on which Starr was a staple in the 2009 season.

Perhaps that last tidbit was obvious foreshadowing, but TMZ is reporting that Starr was in possession of six pills of a painkiller called Opana and six pills of Xanax, a well-known anti-anxiety drug earlier today.

According to the report, Starr didn’t have a prescription for either drug and was therefore arrested on 2 felony counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He was taken to a nearby police station where he is still being held on $20,000 bail.

Alice In Chains Back On Tour

The remaining members of Alice In Chains will be back on tour this fall.

The band, who did a few sold out U.S. shows before kicking off this tour, has William DuVall as the band’s singer, replacing the late Layne Staley.

It is uncertain if William DuVall, who was the singer for Comes With The Fall, has been made a permanent member of the group, reports MTV.

Tickets for the tour dates will be available on August 14 for the fan-club members on their website, and on August 19 for the public. Supporting the tour is Hurt.

The tour will be in support of a double-disc set, “The Essential Alice in Chains,” due out September 5. The disc will be in honour of their great history with the late Layne Staley.

Alice in Chains Members to Tour this Summer

The surviving members of Alice in Chains will regroup this summer for a tour, according to Billboard.

This will be the first time the members have toured together without lead singer Layne Staley, who died from a drug overdose in 2002. Their last tour was in 1996.

In February of last year, guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney hit the stage together in Seattle for a tsunami benefit.

No official word on the substitute singer has been announced. Tour dates and cities have also yet to be announced.

“Rock Star: Alice in Chains?” on CBS this summer? Don’t count on it.
