Alex Goot’s version of Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” slows down the upbeat tempo and replaces the electronic background with a simple guitar, piano and xylophone. The New York singer/songwriter adds some edge with his raspy voice, which surfaces at just the right times.
Goot’s cover is now available on iTunes and he’ll be touring around the U.S. and Canada starting Nov. 9!

“Good Time” by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen is one of those chirpy, positive duets that makes you feel all warm and bubbly. The single will appear on both of their next albums and has already been covered by tons of YouTube fans.
In the meantime, tons of YouTubers are recording their own versions of the track. Here are some of our faves:
Carlijn and Merle ft. Kjelt
This cover of “Good Time” brings the track right back to the basics. The two ladies Carlijn and Merle sing the song with the help of a guitar. Their harmonies are perfect and we love that they mixed in Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” midway through. You can tell they’re legit having a good time in the bloopers at the end.

Even if you’re not into chippy boy bands or One Direction singles you have to admit that their songs are pretty damn catchy and deep down you’re actually obsessed. No really, you are but just don’t want to admit it.
Still, it’s nice to hear interpretations of an original song. By changing the tempo and pitch, artists can change the vibe of a track entirely. Suddenly, you start liking a song you might not have listened to in the first place.
Here are three of our faves:
CIMORELLI
The preppy ladies from glee-style group CIMORELLI put a girly twist on their “One Thing” music video, filming it at the community playground. The neon-clad ladies are all sisters from California and took some visual inspiration from their little brothers. ADORBZ.
