Al Gore and Wife Tipper Separate

Posted by Sara Harowitz on June 1st, 2010

Perez Hilton, we’re hoping you’re not right about one.

The Hollywood blogger is reporting that former Presidential candidate Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, have announced that they are separating.

The Inconvenient Truth star and his wife apparently sent out an e-mail that says:

“We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration.”

They have been together for 40 years.

Nobel Concert Performers Announced

Posted by Eva Lam on October 20th, 2007

Melissa Etheridge, Alicia Keys and Earth Wind & Fire are among the diverse lineup slated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize concert.

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize went to former U.S. vice-president Al Gore and the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their efforts in spreading awareness internationally about global warming.

Gore himself invited Etheridge to play at the concert. Each year’s Nobel winner is given the chance to choose one of the concert’s performers.

Etheridge’s song “I Need to Wake Up” was featured in Gore’s environmental documentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” which won an Academy Award earlier this year for best doc. Etheridge’s song won the Oscar for best original song.

The singer was also among the many musicians who participated in Gore’s Live Earth endeavour this summer.

The Nobel Peace Prize concert will also feature performances by KT Tunstall, Annie Lennox and Colombian singer Juanes.

It is scheduled to take place in Oslo, Norway on Dec. 11, a day after the award ceremony.

Al Gore Tipped For Nobel Peace Prize

Posted by andPOP Staff on February 2nd, 2007

Politician-turned-moviemaker AL GORE has been tipped to win the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work promoting awareness of global warming.

Gore’s environmental film AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH is the third biggest-grossing documentary of all time, and features the former US Vice President highlighting the damage climate change is causing across the world.

STEIN TOENNESSON, head of the Oslo Peace Research Institute lauded Gore for using his political influence to promote awareness, saying, “The issue of global warming is also very topical and it wouldn’t be impossible for the Nobel committee to honour a person combating this threat.

“In such case, Al Gore seems to me to be a possible candidate.”

The winner of the prestigious prize will be announced in October.

Movie Review: A Documentary of Global Proportions

Posted by andPOP Staff on June 3rd, 2006

In “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore rebuts the rumours of global warming that the skeptics believe.

The only problem with his rebuttals is that those skeptics won’t see this movie. And it’s too bad.

“An Inconvenient Truth,” opening today, is a documentary based on Gore’s lectures he’s held around the world about global warming. But it’s more than just a filmed version of Gore’s lecture, it’s also a look behind the scenes as Gore talks about growing up, his son’s near fatal accident, and of course, loosing the presidential election in 2000.

His evidence is striking, and would cause any skeptic about global warming to begin to doubt his stance. His delivery is smooth, a far cry from what we saw in the presidential election six years ago, when Bill Maher dubbed him “Bore.”

“I’m Al Gore and I used to be the next president of the United States,” he begins his lecture to much laughter.
“I don’t find that particularly funny,” he cuts back dryly.

Gore has been a champion for the environment since his university days, when a professor showed his class what would happen if carbon dioxide continued to be released into the atmosphere. This was thirty years ago, mind you. Unfortunately his professor’s predictions were correct.

“An Inconvenient Truth” is the most captivating documentary I’ve seen since “Bowling for Columbine.” And although one would expect a lot of jabs at the current administration due to their history and the lack of action from President Bush to do anything on the environmental front, there aren’t very many. And those that are in there are within context and tasteful.

The film makes you think about the world we live in and how we are destroying it. It also makes you question just how much Canada is really doing to help calm global warming. It makes you wonder if you should even have children, thinking about the world they could possibly live in ? and the world they will never know ever existed.

It’s not all doom and gloom though. Gore provides solutions that each person can do, assuring the audience that if everyone does just a little bit, we can reduce greenhouse gasses and slowly eliminate global warming.

“An Inconvenient Truth” is a film for everyone. And if you know someone who says global warming doesn’t exist? Make sure you take them with you to this movie.
