Posted on andPOP:

Lions and Kevin James and bears – oh my!

A classic tale of a man seeking love, Zookeeper is the story of Griffin Keyes (Kevin James) on his quest to win back the love of his life, Stephanie (Leslie Bibb) with the help of his talking animal friends over at the Zoo. However, among the twists and turns along the way, Keyes realizes he might be running after the wrong girl and does everything he can to make things right. Keyes even finds a lifelong friend in Bernie the gorilla (voiced by Nick Nolte).

Going in with absolutely no expectations, Zookeeper was actually a quite enjoyable movie. While it is incredibly cheesy noticeably geared towards a younger audience, adults could enjoy it as well and could make for a fun family outing. There were many times when you will laugh, and many times when you will cry – I won’t tell if you don’t!

Personally, my favourite part of the movie was the guessing game you get to play, trying to figure out wich famous celebrity voices what animal. And with a cast like Cher, Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stalone, and Judd Apatow, just to name a few, I can assure you that it was extremely fun!

While it might not be winning an Oscar anytime soon, Zookeeper is not all that bad a movie, and I would definitely recommend it to parents who want to entertain their kids for a couple hours with a wholesome, cute, and enjoyable film. For everyone else, wait until it comes out on Netflix.

Zookeeper is out in theaters everywhere July 8.

It should as it was a 2003 movie starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson.

Charlie will play Jack Nicholson’s character, however there will be some differences. Charlie’s character will be an ex-jock who got his master’s degree in social work during the offseason. He becomes a counselor to defendants in the criminal justice system with anger management problems.

Of course the twist is Charlie’s character will have anger issues of his own. Ya – this sounds like a bomb. The movie was so so, and this concept seems ridiculous and the only reason people will watch is Charlie’s ridiculous behaviour. However that novelty will wear off. Remember Charlie’s standup tour? That was pretty short lived.

Posted on andPOP:

You heard right.

Vanilla Ice is on his way back into the limelight whether you like it or not, Perez Hilton reports. The former ‘rapper’ has been cast in an upcoming Adam Sandler comedy entitled I Hate You, Dad! – costarring Andy Samberg and Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester.

The premise of the movie will focus on Sandler, who moves in with his son (Samberg) and future daughter-in-law (Meester), only to immediately start butting heads with her. Ice will surprisingly not be playing himself, but the supporting role of Antonio, a gay wedding coordinator from Long Island. Really?

James Caan is also reported to play Leighton’s actual father. I’m actually quite impressed with this cast, despite Vanilla Ice, so it may be worth checking out.

Sean Anders and John Morris will be directing from a screenplay by David Wain and Ken Marino. Sandler is also producing through his Happy Madison banner along with Jack Giarraputo and Heather Parry. The movie is scheduled for release on June 15, 2012.

Meester most recently starred in “The Roommate,” meanwhile Vanilla Ice was last seen on the big screen in the 2002 teen comedy “The New Guy.” Ice is also playing Captain Hook in an upcoming theatrical production of Peter Pan in England. Looks like someone is focusing on his acting career. God help us all.

I’m not a huge fan of musicians turning into actors. Only the very few can actually make that transition, like Jennifer Hudson or Justin Timberlake, so I don’t think Ice’s role sounds like an Oscar-winner. I’m also not a huge fan of Sandler, so this movie is looking a little meak for me – but could be good. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Between 1987 and 1990, Ober hosted “Remote Control”, a popular music trivia game show that was one of the first non-musical programs on MTV.

The show was a highlight of a career that started with his comedic discovery on Star Search in the mid-1980s. He was also involved on the production of shows like Mind of Mencia and The New Adventures of Old Christine.

“Ken Ober was one of the sharpest, quickest, sweetest guys I ever met,” Adam Sandler said to MTV news, “He was always a great friend and I will miss him very much.”

Dennis Leary added, “Kenny Ober was and always will be the quickest wit in the room. He was fall-down funny from the moment he was born — a smart, fast and hilarious human being who made many of us, including myself, laugh until we cried. As the star and host of ‘Remote Control,’ he was a welcoming ringmaster who helped to kickstart the careers of numerous talents, including Adam Sandler, Colin Quinn and myself. He will be remembered always by each of his friends not only for his massive talent but for his true, deep and enduring friendship.”

Ober’s impact will survive in his work, along with the work of the comedians he influenced.

Posted on andPOP:

Movie star Adam Sandler played Santa Claus to a couple of sick teenagers in his home state of New Hampshire.

Teenpeople.com reports that Sandler brought the two teens, brother and sister who are both suffering from cancer, a new Playstation 3, with games, autographed DVDs, as well as a jersey and a poster from his flick “The Longest Yard.”

Stephanie Hudon, 15, suffers from bone cancer and is expected to go in for surgery on Jan. 8, while her brother, Kevin, has Hodgkin’s lymphoma and has received chemotherapy as treatment for the disease.

Sandler has always been a very giving person, especially during the holiday season. Teen People says Sandler’s giving nature goes all the way back to his childhood. The gifts for the two teens arrived last week.

Posted on andPOP:

Adam Sandler’s new comedy, “Click,” took the top spot at the North American box office in its debut, sending “Cars” to second place in its third weekend.

Though the film has gotten mostly bad reviews, it brought in about $40 million US in its first three days, according to Reuters.

“Click” follows Sandler as a father who comes into possession of a magical remote control, allowing him to control his life like a television.

The film’s opening also marked the fourth time since 1999 that a movie starring Sandler debuted with a $40 million-plus take.

Rounding out the weekend’s top five spots were Jack Black’s “Nacho Libre” in third, thriller “Waist Deep” in fourth, and street-racing sequel “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” in fifth.

Posted on andPOP:

“Click” begins as a heart-warming, funny tale ? but it quickly develops into the stupidness that envelopes so many Adam Sandler movies before it.

Sandler stars in the film as a workaholic dad trying to come to terms with balancing work and his family in a technological world. He plays Michael Newman in the film, who has a boss he hates (played by David Hasselhoff), and a family with wife Donna (Kate Beckinsale).

After getting told he would not be able to go away with his family for the long weekend in July because he has to finish a project for work, Michael gets frustrated when he tries to turn on the television, only to discover there are too many remotes for him to remember what operates what. He decides to head out in the middle of the night to find a universal remote.

And he does, from a man named Morty (Christopher Walken) at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Morty tells Michael he can have this new universal remote that is not on the market yet, but warns it cannot be returned.

Michael heads home and by the end of the night realizes this new remote does more than just operate the television. He soon discovers he can mute, fast forward, change language settings and revisit his past with just the click of a button.

Soon Michael is fast forwarding through fights with his wife and traffic on his way to work. He also uses the pause button to beat up his boss. But soon the remote takes on a life of its own and fast forwards through almost all of Michael’s life.

The movie starts off promising, even if Beckinsale looks a little too gorgeous to be a mother of two young children (try to name me a mother you know who goes to bed in a tank top that shows of her midriff and short shorts). It seems like it is going to be more of a heart-warming comedy like “The Wedding Singer,” than a movie just in it for stupid laughs (“Happy Gilmore” anyone?).

But it seems the remote Michael receives does more than even he believes, because the film soon turns into a film filled with fart jokes that teenage boys will love, but others will not.

It’s disappointing that the movie takes this turn because by the end when Morty?s true identity is revealed, the audience doesn’t seem to care anymore. And while the film has a typical Hollywood ending, it would have been nicer if it had ended a little darker, much like “The Break Up” did. Especially since it had the ability to do so had the film ended about 15 minutes earlier.

Sandler does a good job in the film, but often turns into a caricature of himself which takes the audience away from the fantasy of the film. Beckinsale performs well as a frustrated wife and mother, and the two kids who play the couple’s kids at the beginning of the film, steal the scenes they’re in.

Walken is excellent as always, however sometimes you can get a hint that the actor found some of the humour just plain stupid.

If you feel like seeing a movie that has a little heart, “Click” is for you. However, if you feel like something with a lot of heart that doesn’t fade away, click on over to “The Break Up.”
