Brody Glad The OC Finished

ADAM BRODY is glad hit show THE OC has come to a close, because he had no choice but to test himself in other roles.

The 27-year-old played SETH COHEN on the teen drama between 2003 and 2006 and loved his job so much, he admits he needed a push to seek fresh challenges.

He is now looking to make more movies after earning good reviews for his performances in THANK YOU FOR SMOKING and MR & MRS SMITH.

He says, “We all got on so well and the scripts were so good that we would’ve done it for years.

“This way we’re forced out into the world. I can play new geeks now.”

Fox Cancels The O.C. After Four Seasons

The O.C. is coming to an end. Once the hottest show on television, The O.C. has been struggling in the ratings this season and on Wednesday, Fox decided to pull the plug.

The show’s fourth season finale on Feb. 22 will also be the show’s series finale.

“This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” the show’s creator and executive producer, Josh Schwartz, said in a statement. “Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top.”

When The O.C. debuted late in the summer of 2003, it drew close to 10 million viewers a week. However, in its fourth season, the audience turned into about a third of that number.

The diehard fans – those that were left, at least – saw the move coming. Fox only ordered 16 episodes this season (all 16 will air), though in past seasons, they aired at least 24. An online petition to save the show attracted close to 300,000 signatures.

Adam Brody, who played Seth Cohen on The O.C., told andPOP last year that he expected the show to last at least six seasons.

“We all have six year contracts, so there’s at least that. Then who knows,” Brody told andPOP, just before the launch of the show’s third season.

Beyond its sixth season, Brody wasn’t as sure. “I don’t know. I’d have to see when we get there.”

For Brody and the rest of the cast – which also included Rachel Bilson and Benjamin McKenzie – they won’t have the chance to get there.

Schwartz said that the show’s finale would bring “closure” to the series.

“It will be fun and emotional and I think really satisfying,” he said in the statement. “It is the finale we always planned to do.”

Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson Still Together?

A celebrity gossip blog is reporting the Adam Brody/Rachel Bilson split last month is completely bogus.

SocialiteLife.com reportedly wined and dined O.C. actor Brody over Christmas and he apparently said his break-up from Bilson was news to him.

He added he was excited for Bilson’s return to the United States from Rome and spilled the beans about Mischa Barton, saying she had burned the producers of The O.C., so they burned her a car wreck and killed off her character.

Several tabloids reported last month that Brody and Bilson had split after a two year relationship. Neither a rep for Bilson or Brody has spoken out on this latest round of rumours.

How Long Will the OC Last? Adam Brody tells andPOP

Fans of The O.C. spent the summer counting down the days until their beloved teen drama returned to their air for its third season. With the show back in full swing after its season premiere earlier this month, O.C. fans may soon be counting down the days until the show is done forever.

Adam Brody, who plays Seth Cohen on the show, and most of the other principle actors signed six-year contracts when the show started in 2003. Since the O.C. has given these actors many opportunities in film, they may bolt once their contracts run up.

“We all have six year contracts, so there’s at least that. Then who knows,” Brody told andPOP in an interview last week at the Star! Schmooze party.

Brody was in Toronto promoting “Thank You for Smoking” as part of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Brody was careful with his words, but when asked if he could see The O.C. lasting beyond his contract, he paused. He raised his eye brows and put his lips together.

“Umm,” he said, “I don’t know. I’d have to see when we get there. That’s something that’s unanswerable right now.”

Brody may be the actor benefiting most from the success of the show. Earlier this year, he had a part in the blockbuster “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” He will be starring opposite Meg Ryan in “In the Land of Woman,” due out next summer.

He’s also made a difference on pop culture, whether he admits it or not. When Seth displayed a Death Cab for Cutie poster on his wall, the band woke up the next morning with an enlarged fan base.

Brody shrugs off his impact on the band’s success, even though a search of his name and the band’s name together brings up over 11,000 results on Google.

“I don’t think I had anything to do with it,” he said. “Maybe it has like half a percentage to do with the show. Indie music in general has become not even indie music anymore, but in a good way.”

Brody is now back at work on The O.C. Only a handful of episodes for the third season have been filmed so far.

“4000 things are going to happen in the next few months,” he promises, “and I can’t even begin to speculate (what those are).”
