The speculation surrounding who will star in the both highly anticipated and the most unnecessary movie adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey has been running rampant for the last year. The latest bit of news to be churned out from the rumour mill has pegged British actor Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) to be in the front-runner to be Christian Grey, the character at the heart of the popular smutty fan-fiction-turned-cultural phenomenon.
According to The Wrap, the 23-year-old actor has already filmed a test sex scene for Oscar-winning director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk). Pettyfer and an mysterious actress apparently shot the scene where the series’ protagonist Anastasia Steele loses her virginity to Grey.
Despite this, Pettyfer is not Christian Grey (yet) nor is Van Sant the project’s official director. Van Sant’s screen test may indicate producers’ high-class intention for the smutty storyline.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about fandoms since joining Tumblr, it’s that they have quite the… let’s say imagination when it comes to their favourite artists. From One Direction to The Wanted, fanfics are everywhere, but who knew Ed Sheeran fanfics existed?

During a visit to a New Zealand radio show, the hosts introduced our “Ginger Jesus” to the world of fanfiction. Asking him to read a few lines of what he so brilliantly calls “50 Shades of Ging,” (because he’s adorkable like that), he learned what a fan wanted to do for him on his 22nd birthday.
“I will say that is, that is pretty debauched,” he said after his impromptu reading. “but, um, at least it’s encouraging kids to be creative.”
Well, that’s one way to put it.
WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW (STARTS AT THE 9:32 MARK):
After the rumour mill for the 50 Shades of Grey movie started churning last year, we heard a lot about how Emma Watson was likely to play the lead role of Ana Steele.
I’m sorry, what? I think most of us figured Watson was a little too classy and smart to do that…and we were right!
Watson recently confirmed via Twitter that she woud not be in the film.
Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life.

I quite enjoy sassy Emma Watson. She’s perfect.

Not only is she gorgeous, but she’s got a great voice for audiobooks!
Kate Moss is known for her career as a model and her rockstar lifestyle, but she stepped outside her comfort zone in a recent BBC Radio interview. The usually-silent celebrity agreed to read an excerpt from the sexy novel 50 Shades of Grey if the station’s listeners were able to raise $200, 000 for the Radio 1 Red Nose Challenge. They did, and let me tell you, when Kate finished talking, the boys in the building went nuts!
Listen to Kate’s rendition of the housewife (and young adult…don’t pretend like you haven’t read the book) favourite here:
Star Trek alumni George Takei seems like such a sweet soul. His deep, sultry voice was pretty much made to do something for the greater good of society. I was thinking more along the lines of a CD that you listen to as you slip into a deep slumber. But recording a narrative for the erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey? That’s a different idea.
According to “Fifty Shades of Takei,” the actor was convinced by a friend (and many fans) to read the rather sensual novel out loud. What ensued was of epic proportions. Oh myyyy!
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good Fifty Shades of Grey parody make the rounds online, but Brock Baker wins with his impersonation of 50 different people reading the erotic novel. Impressions include Christopher Walken, Robert De Niro, Frank Sinatra, Elmo, Adam Sandler and Homer Simpson.
Ever daydreamed about Harry Styles and what he would be like in the bedroom? Just read ’50 Shades of Grey,’ since that is where he gets his sexual education. In an Interview with The Sun, he spoke about how some women friend’s of his were making him read the book. “They were like, ‘Just borrow this,’ and I was like, ‘Hmmm’. It seems interesting. I could probably learn from it, I don’t know. I feel like it’s an educational and interesting read.” Looks like I just found my new crush!
We all know by now that 50 Shades of Grey is based on a Twilight fanfic so there really was no hope that it might actually be good.
For some reason though, I do hope that the 50 Shades of Grey parody, “Fifty Shames of Earl Grey” by Fanny Merkin, will be better. I haven’t read the book (yet) and am basing my judgement on this description:
Young, arrogant, tycoon Earl Grey seduces the naïve coed Anna Steal with his overpowering good looks and staggering amounts of money, but will she be able to get past his fifty shames, including shopping at Walmart on Saturdays, bondage with handcuffs, and his love of BDSM (Bards, Dragons, Sorcery, and Magick)? Or will his dark secrets and constant smirking drive her over the edge?
Merkin’s version of BDSM sounds like a nerdy night of Dungeons and Dragons, so obviously Earl Grey is pretty much winning at everything. Also, who doesn’t love wandering the vast expanses of Walmart on a Saturday? You can find the oddest things at Walmart for cheap, like My Little Pony tank tops and loofahs that change colour in warm water. As a result, I obviously have high hopes for this book.
Who am kidding? Of course it will be better. The 8-year-old I babysit can write a better story than 50 Shades of Grey.
I also think this warrants starting a book club and reading it together. I’ll just start printing out flyers for the 50 Shades of Grey husband support groups.
I’m nearly finished reading the glorious novel Fifty Shades of Grey but now I wish I waited a couple weeks so I could read it while listening to this soundtrack. Author EL James curated the songs that Anastasia “Submissive” Steele and Christian “Dominant” Grey would listen during their saucy BDSM affair, on YouTube.
The playlist includes Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire,” along with some classical picks. She conveniently included the specific scenes that the song would play over, for instance, Ana listens to Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”when she’s driving back to WSU.
We’ll just have to see if they end up using any of the tracks in the anticipated movie. Unfortunately Emma Watson nixed rumours that she’s playing our main heroine, though Vampire Diaries’ star Ian Somerhalder said he’d be up for playing Christian Grey.
What do you think of the playlist? What song would you want to hear in the movie?
If you can’t stand to read the book on your own, let these celebrities and YouTubers do it for you…
Ellen Degeneres
Ellen was asked to record the steamy novel Fifty Shades of Grey but was shocked at the pornographic language, so she opted to paraphrase the most obscene terminology (think of secret gardens and hammers). She went one step further by adding in sound effects, using her own vocalizations and props. Oh my.
Gilbert Gottfried
Gilbert Gottfried’s cranky voice doesn’t lend itself well to BDSM. We hope this doesn’t ruin the book for you.
Kristen Stewart
This drunk chick reads Fifty Shades of Grey while (obvs) drinking white wine. For some reason, she insists on speaking in a variety of Shakespearean accents, even though both Christian and Anastasia are both American. This is why you disable your webcam before a night at the bar people…

We’re all eagerly awaiting the upcoming movie Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the book by EL James. Whenever I see someone reading it on the subway I’m all like “oh yeah, I know what you’re reading,” but I can’t really judge them because I recently reserved the book at the library and I’m the 174th person in line. I will wait.
There are so many people who discreetly read the book that it warrants Fifty Shades of Grey The Musical, directed and edited by Vijay Nazareth. Vijay and his brother Antonius Nazareth (who created the music) produce videos every week on their YouTube channel AVbyte.
Everyone has their own opinion of the book, whether you’re the stay at home mom who considers it a piece of important literature, the social studies major who hates the message or the young guy who’s secretly devouring it.
Which are you?
The next time you’re on the subway and you see someone in the middle of 50 Shades of Grey, just think of Gilbert Gottfried reading it in his cranky voice. We hope we didn’t ruin the book for you.

In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, Justin Timberlake is going back to music and Kristen Wiig leaves SNL.
HIT: Phillip Phillips is the winner of American Idol!
After a record number of votes, Phillip Phillips WON American Idol! Not too shabby. We’re excited to hear his track “Home” on the radio — it’s got a little bit of Mumford in there, doesn’t it? And I know, Jessica Sanchez was way cool but it doesn’t even matter if you win these days. I mean, look an Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.
MISS: Zac Efron got himself a pornstache

It’s been a slow news week and I’m tired of acknowledging Courtney Stodden’s existence, okay? What is this? My first whiskers? I know he’s just trying to show us how manly he is nowadays (condom dropping, bra unhooking, etc) and I’m fine with that. Everyone has to grow up. The mustache, though, is scraggly, patchy and reminds me of sad, prepubescent attempts at facial hair during Movember. Just go back to the scruff and all will be well.
HIT: Fun. covers Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”
From the Havard baseball team to Katy Perry, it seems like everyone’s covering the guilty pleasure of the year “Call Me Maybe.” The band Fun.’s acoustic version is addictive and well, fun. They’re also becoming some sort of cover band because we’ve already heard them perform “Somebody That I Used To Know.” If you need me, I’ll be dancing on the streets shamelessly while listening to both of them. Please feel free to join me.
