Eminem’s ‘Relapse’ Leads Him To The Top Spot

Who knew a relapse could spawn something positive? Eminem’s latest studio release “Relapse,” a first in almost five years, grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Albums chart.

Meanwhile, Greenday took the No. 2 spot with sales of 166,000 copies for “21st Century Breakdown,” per Nielsen SoundScan.

Also, 6 other new albums hit the Top 10. Kenny Chesney landed the No. 3 spot with “Greatest Hits II,” followed by Method Man & Redman at No. 4 (selling 63,000 copies of “Blackout! 2.”

Funny-man Dane Cook managed to grab the No. 5 spot “ISolated INcident,” followed by Busta Rhymes who sold 59,000 of his album “Back on My B.S.”

Closing up the Top 10 are Tori Amos’ “Abnormally Attracted to Sin” and “A Fine Mess” by Kate Voegele.

Album sales went up 13 per cent from last week, which might have something to do with the number of new discs released. However sales are down 9 per cent from the same sales week in 2008.

Green Day Unveils Summer Tour

As expected, Green Day will hit the road in early July for a full-fledged North American tour – the band’s first in three years – in support of their new album, “21st Century Breakdown.”

The chart-topping rockers have announced 38 dates for the summer trek, which kicks off July 3 in Seattle and runs through Aug. 25 in Los Angeles.

In between are seven Canadian stops: Vancouver (July 4), Edmonton (July 6), Saskatoon (July 7), Winnipeg (July 9), Hamilton, Ont. (July 16), Ottawa (July 17) and Montreal (July 18).

Venues have yet to be announced.

“Breakdown,” the follow-up to 2004′s Grammy award-winning “American Idiot,” will hit stores shelves on May 15. The first single, “Know Your Enemy,” was released to radio last week.

Earlier this month, the trio played a handful of small club shows in California in anticipation of the new album, and will mark its release with another intimate show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on May 18.

Green Day To Play NYC Club Gig

Green Day will celebrate the release of their eighth studio album next month with a small club show – a rarity for the mega-selling band – in New York City.

According to MTV Germany, the band will play the 700-capacity Bowery Ballroom on May 18, three days after “21st Century Breakdown” hits stores.

The album is the band’s follow-up to 2004′s “American Idiot,” which sold more than 12 million copies. As previously reported, the new album has a narrative structure, divided into three acts, that tells the story of a young couple named Christian and Gloria.

The first single, “Know Your Enemy,” will be released April 16, while the video for the track will debut April 24 on MTV and VH1 channels around the world.

Several hundred fans got a preview of the new material this week after the band staged two “surprise” club shows in San Francisco, where they played tunes from ”Breakdown” as well as older favourites. The trio is rumored to be planning two more “surprise” shows in Oakland next week.
