We did not run into any issues at all using the Duet 2 directly off the USB therefore there was no need for us to use an optional Power supply but it is great to know that the option is there if it is ever needed. The USB connection to the computer is on the rear panel as well as the breakout cable connector.

The Duet 2 includes a redesigned Breakout Cable which has been greatly streamlined from the previous model and comes with 2 combination mic/instrument connectors. The output from the breakout cable on the back of the Duet 2 accommodates quarter inch balanced out connections. You can use regular quarter inch guitar cables for shorter distances. Running audio cables over longer distances to hi end audio equipment will often cause interference or possible noise from external sources and Apogee has addressed this issue by designing the breakout cable to accommodate quarter inch balanced out cables if you need to run cabling over longer distances. With the release of the Duet 2, Apogee has gone a step further by offer an optional aluminum Breakout Box Accessory for that accommodates the running of left and right XLR outputs from for Duet 2 to a mixer or powered speakers.

Record 2 Sources Simultaneously
The Duet 2 accommodates the ability to record 2 sources simultaneously such as at keyboard and vocalist – this device is a powerhouse of quality and design. There is no doubt, Cadence Watch Company is on to something special.

Andpop got a first hand look at the 4 bit binary watch, with a large white clock face, easy to read dial and quality looking genuine black leather band. Instead of Arabic or Latin Numerals, the numbers on the large white face of this model are represented in 4-bit binary code. This 4 bit binary watch requires an internal battery but Cadence offers a similar watch face from their Ecomatic Line with an automatic movement (self winding, no battery) and a green coloured cotton band which looks hip and would probably really appeal to people who support alternatives to the use of leather.

To read the time on the watch, of course you don’t need to take a course in 4 bit binary, but once again, a little knowledge can be a great conversational opener.

 Each of the four boxes represents the numbers 8, 4, 2, and 1. When looking at the dial of the 4-Bit Watch, the least significant bit will always be on the outside of the dial. For instance 8 will always be the box closest to the hands with 4 being second, 2 third and 1 closest to the outside. For example at 5 o’clock 4 and 1 are highlighted – see figure 1 for more examples.

Great Looking Time Pieces

The Legend

The Griffin AeroSport for iPod nano  armband strap is a black lycra armband for the iPod Nano 6th Gen that is flexible, comfortable and lightweight. This Griffin AeroSport for iPod nano  armband  has a plastic face plate to attach the iPod and a velcro section to ensure the band is fitted and stays put on your arm while playing sports or jogging. In my opinion, it would be really cool if the band would adapt to the wrist and double as a wrist strap but such is not the case here. The Armband will fit nicely around your arm but cannot be fitted as a watchband around the wrist.  There is not much more to say here about this great little arm band by Griffin except that if you need an armband, Griffin AeroSport for iPod nano is a great choice.

Not too Bulky but strapped down

The Single Compartment Slimcase by Level 8 has a form fitting sleeve to completely enwrap the macbook,  and is designed to offer additional space to conveniently hold the power adapter, cables and other various Macbook Pro accessories without turning into a big over stuffed suitcase. The Single Compartment Slimcase sports couple of permanent small handles as well as a shoulder strap that cannot be removed. Unfortunately I dont see any way to temporarily ‘strap one off’, so if the permanent ‘dangly’ shoulder strap is not a suitable feature then take a look at the Level 8 Protective Sleeve which is very similar in design, but with no strap.

13” PROTECTIVE SLEEVE
As mentioned, The Level 8 Protective Sleeve is very similar to the Single Compartment Slimcase, but is a little skinnier and has no dangly strap. The Level 8 Protective Sleeve has a side stash

pocket instead of internal space organizers for various accessories and is my favourite pick from the line due to its practical design that protects the Macbook Pro from scratching while easily fitting into a standard sized briefcase.

The zippers on the Level 8 Protective Sleeve are well designed in that they are recessed and therefore will not scratch the Macbook as you slide the computer in and out of the sleeve. The zippered stash pocket on the side is big enough to hold the Macbooks A/C adapter and cable if necessary. Of course, if you decide not to fill the side pocket with any small peripherals, then the Level 8 Protective Sleeve is pretty form fitting but the pocket is always there if needed.

Facebook announced today that they are adding video to their online chat program through a partnership with Skype and it’s available today.

Users who want to add the new feature must download a quick Java file by visiting the video chat page. A new video icon will then appear in chat windows that you simply click and it will connect you via video to that person. The idea behind the feature is to make it simple to operate and easy for non-technical users to participate in video chat. There is no need to create a Skype account as the feature works alongside your existing facebook account.

“No separate accounts, no separate websites to go to,” Philip Su said. “The download is small and easy.”

This feature appears to be part of a larger project happening at Facebook to compete head on with Apple’s Facetime video conferencing application, with rumours swirling about a new Facebook web application dubbed ‘Project Spartan’ that will be released for all mobile and tablet devices later this year.

Mobile DJs will likely be familiar with the popular digital DJ software called Traktor by Native Instruments for Mac and PC . TRAKTOR software is available as TRAKTOR PRO 2, TRAKTOR DUO 2, TRAKTOR LE each of which offers a variety of mixing and effects capabilities from Semi Pro to Pro depending on one’s needs. TRAKTOR is a powerful digital software package which poses a bit of a learning curve for the beginner but comes with an excellent users manual in PDF format.

Experienced Digital DJs will probably find TRAKTOR simple to navigate as the TRAKTOR interface is similar in layout to several other popular digital DJ packages currently on the market. TRAKTOR DJ software, in my opinion, is set primarily apart from the competition in that it offers a robust gallery of pre configured beat patterns as well as excellent mixing effects such as reverb, delay and flange, to name just a few, that can be implemented by the Performance DJ to offer an exciting array of sound combinations for the most creative mixing opportunities.

The TRAKTOR interface, which is presented in two main sections, the BROWSER and the MIXER and is logical to navigate and complimented by the following areas: the Application Bar  Menu, the Header, the Global Section and The Decks which are clearly explained in the Overview section of the TRAKTOR 2 Getting Started Manual. Locating your music collection is perky and the TRACKTOR software provides the usual common tasks such as the ability to create saved sets, sync music and record your mixes, and much more.

In most cases, an external audio interface will be required to use TRAKTOR effectively. Native Instruments offers a complete line of professional AUDIO INTERFACE or SOUND CARDS, such as the KOMPLETE AUDIO 2, TRAKTOR AUDIO 6 TRAKTOR AUDIO 10 etc. If you want a basic DJ system with 2 decks and if you don’t have access to a hi- end, more costly sound card , it is still possible to use TRAKTOR.

On the Macintosh, it is possible to configure TRAKTOR to work with a basic Griffin iMic which has one pair of outputs (for main output) that can be used in tandem with the Mac’s built in output (for headphone monitoring/mixing purposes). Although TRAKTOR software does support the use of the Griffin iMic, surprisingly however, configuring this setup will require a bit of knowledge, as this particular basic  Audio Interface setup is undocumented in the TRAKTOR PDF manual. Using the simple Griffin iMic USB as your sound card with 10.6 OSX of the Apple operating system will require the additional step of setting up what is called an ‘Aggregate Device’ which is accomplished through a few steps in the AUDIO MIDI setup software that is found in the UTILS folder of the Mac. In addition to setting up the aggregate device in the Apple Audio Midi Util software, you will have to know how to configure AUDIO SETUP and  OUTPUT ROUTING in the Traktor PREFERENCES menus. It is pretty easy to configure when you finally know how to do it, but it is a little bit of trouble and research to set up as there is little, if any, useful documentation from  Traktor on this one.

The TRAKTOR KONTROL X1 controller is Native Instruments’  first official TRAKTOR controller for use with any DJ Software. DJ’s who are new to controllers will have a learning curve to deal with and after figuring out the technical end of things, will need to practice with the TRAKTOR X1 CONTROLLER despite the plug and play convenience of the hardware’s relationship to the software. However, the DJ with technical experience will most likely be up and running with the TRAKTOR X1 CONTROLLER very quickly.

The video game industry hit a four-year low in May, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Video game sales apparently hit its lowest monthly U.S. profit since October 2006, totalling $743.1 million. That number may seem high, but it’s nothing compared to the $866.8 million of last year.

“A light slate of new releases is at the heart of this month’s performance,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. “As a result of a lighter release slate, promotional activity at retail and in circulars was reduced as well, which undoubtedly affected not only planned but impulse purchases.”

Frazier says it is unfair to base all results on figures, though, as an increasing amount of video game sales derive from online or downloadable exclusive content purchases.

This year’s top selling game was ‘L.A. Noire,’ a murder-mystery action game set in old L.A.

I agree with the analyst. Much of today’s market comes from the online world, so we have to factor in the sales from that. I don’t think video games are going anywhere anytime soon.

Sony has introduced the new ‘PlayStation Vita’ handheld, reports CTV.

The company’s newest portable gaming machine, the ‘PlayStation Vita,’ is a touch-screen and motion-sensitive handheld that allows gamers to connect with one another over cellphone networks and Wi-Fi hotspots. The device can also use GPS location-tracking technology.

Much like the iPad, the device is available as a Wi-Fi-only version for $249, or a cellphone version which will retail for $299 and buyers will have to subscribe to a cellular data plan.

The Vita also has front and back cameras, a touchscreen in front, a touch pad on the back and two joysticks. Gamers can play against each other all around the world.

“PlayStation Vita will revolutionize the portable entertainment experience,” Kazuo Hirai, group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., told a crowd at the unveiling. “The whole world is really in play.”

The device will go on sale before the winter holidays. This sounds cool, I probably won’t buy it just because I have enough technology devices as is, but I can appreciate its idea.

T-Pain is vowing that he will never use Auto-Tune again, reports AllHipHop.com.

The rapper and producer told the hip hop site exclusively that he will never use Auto-Tune in his music again. Auto-tune is the singing effect that T-Pain made famous, which digitally makes voices sing on key.

It often makes them sound like a robot, too.

“I vow right here, right now, to never use Auto-Tune again,” said T-Pain in a statement. “I’m onto something that I think is bigger and better called ‘The T-Pain Effect.’”

No, he isn’t being funny or ironic. The rapper actually plans to develop a sound called “The T-Pain Effect.” He has reportedly partnered with Izotope, an audio technology company, to produce this so-called new effect.

T-Pain without Auto-Tune is like Lindsay Lohan without drugs or Arnold Schwarzenegger without secret love child’s. It’s just so bizarre. The man has an iTunes app that Auto-Tune’s peoples voice, for goodness sake. We’ll see if this lasts, because it’s kind of the only thing going for him at the moment.
