As the holiest day of chocolate and flowers approaches, we thought we’d help those in need with a playlist of some of the greatest break-up or heartbreak songs of all time.

Almost every song on the radio seems to be about love, right? It’s the time of the year when the lonely feel loneliest and it seems like everyone else is playing tonsil-hockey, smiling and you have nothing except a Ryan Gosling marathon and a tub of Ben and Jerrys waiting at home. Well, we can’t do anything about that – but we can provide a melancholy soundtrack of some of the saddest songs of all time. We’ll venture into the 80s with some Joy Division, Springsteen, U2 and Pat Benetar while visiting ballads from modern artists like Cee-Lo, Beyonce and of course – Adele.

Enjoy wisely. Stare out your window at the falling rain if you have to.

Are you feeling alone in the Twitterverse today? Well, it could easily be the result of the latest social-media outcry or “protest” against Twitter’s recent announcement.

It basically outlines the powers at be over at Twitter are planning on blocking certain tweets in different countries, because the concept of “free speech” and “expression” is different around the world. Twitter doesn’t want any drama or legal complications.

Friday’s New York Times article “Censoring of Tweets Sets Off #Outrage” did the best job of explaining what international users can expect from Twitter’s new policy — and why it’s scary as shit:

So if someone posts a message that insults the monarchy of Thailand, which is punishable by a jail term, it will be blocked and unavailable to Twitter users in that country, but still visible elsewhere. What is more, Twitter users in Thailand will be put on notice that something was removed: A gray box will show up in its place, with a clear note: “Tweet withheld,” it will read. “This tweet from @username has been withheld in: Thailand.”

The infamous Anonymous group organized today’s protest, urging Twitter users not to tweet at all on January 28.

Although it can be argued that silence speaks louder than words – my timeline has already flooded with a plethora of Instragram’d pictures of cats this morning.

It’s posted on everyone’s Facebook wall, it’s been retweeted by a lot of celebrities and it’s even talked about on the six o’clock news.

Jonah Mowry is a 14-year-old gay student living in California. He made a video back in August, writing down all his feeling about being bullies in school while Sia’s “Breathe Me” plays in the background. Some of the notes he wrote down include “I’ve cut…a lot. I have scars. Suicide was an option…many times.”

Four months later, people are taking more notice of the video. A second video was posted earlier this week showing the teen in a happier state of mind, and therefore everyone was quick to assume Jonah was acting in his first video.

“I’m disappointed that somebody could look at the first video and then look at the second and think it’s a lie,” his mom, Peggy Sue Mowry told ABC News.

She says her son has gotten a lot of online support. Ricky Martin and Perez Hilton were really affected by his video.

Jonah being brave enough to talk about homophobia and teen bullying really sets the bar for schools to initiative in dealing with these issues. This past year, there have been reports of suicides and even murders of gay teens. Jonah is simply helping everyone begin that conversation so that young kids don’t go to school feeling like they want to die.

Talk about cold blooded murder. A Louisiana man is accused of killing a Priest, stealing the Priest’s car, and taking his family to Disneyland.

Jeremy Wayne Manieri has been charged with the death of Rev. Edward Everitt. After killing the Priest, Manieri alledgely took the man’s car, picked up his ex-wife, stepson and daughter, then drove to Disneyland.

Although they made it to Disneyland, Manieri was found as the car had a vehicle tracking device. They also found the gun to kill Everitt in the car, reports the Daily News.

Hopefully they got to go on some of the rides.

Twilight Author, Stephenie Meyer will be producing the Jane Austen-inspired Austenland, an adaptation of the Shannon Hale novel according to MTV News.

The movie is about a woman who ruins her love life due to her obsession with Mr. Darcy. She goes to Austenland, which is an Austen-themed resort in England and falls for the actor who plays Mr. Darcy at this resort.

The cast of the film has not been finalized but so far includes Keri Russell, J.J. Field, Bret McKenzie, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart and James Callis.

Not only will Meyer be making her debut outside the world of Forks, but newcomer Jerusha Hess will be directing the film.

Meyer says that Twilight is inspired by Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, so much to the point where every so often, Bella’s character in the book compares her relationship with Edward to Elizabeth’s relationship with Mr. Darcy.

Meyer went into producing with the final two movies of the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, and will also produce the adaptation of her book, The Host.

Looks like Meyer is looking for non-vampire jobs since the finale of the Twilight series that made her millions is quickly approaching.

Breaking Dawn part 1 is set to hit theatres this November but fans will have to wait a full year for the final installment which will be released fall 2012.

Mario Lopez has been planning a VH1 reality series about being a first-time father for a few months now, and it seems like shooting can finally begin.

Popeater reports that Mario Lopez and girlfriend, dancer Courtney Laine Mazza, welcomed their latest prop — er, baby daughter, into the world yesterday. Gia Francesca Lopez was born in California weighing 6 lbs, 4 oz. The family is doing very well.

When reached for comment, the former “Saved by the Bell” star sounded like a very proud papa. “We are so overjoyed,” Lopez gushed. “What an amazing, wonderful and overwhelming experience to welcome our daughter into the world.”

Aside from the pending reality show, Lopez has also contemplated writing a book about the quandaries and qualms of first-time dads. “Guys want to help, too,” Lopez stated. “There are tons of books for moms, but dads want to know what’s going on with the lady and the baby, both emotionally and physically.”

Sounds like baby Gia is already a great source of creativity and inspiration for Mario! It’s so inspiring to see a former  A-lister driven to help fellow young dads. We’re sure he’s in it for the sense of community and charity he’s sure to feel whenever someone drops $29.99 on his new daddy manual. Celebrity altruism at its finest!

All kidding aside, we wish all the best to the Lopez family. Babies are always happy news! Just don’t call the show “Saved by the Baby,” okay?

Don’t say you’ve seen an electro-group perform live, until you’ve seen DUBBS.

It’s only fair really.

Instead of going up on stage like most groups only to then just press a play button on a laptop, DUBBS re-creates every aspect of the beat-pumping tune with a variety of equipment- giving the audience the most real-live dynamic electro-concert experience possible.

The three-man Canadian team consists of brothers Alex (Vocals) and Chris (Drums) Van Den Hoeff, and Ottawa producer Martin Sinotte, who hope to make a name for themselves with their revolutionary club-bopping tracks and unique live sound-experience.

“Most DJ’s just turn knobs to play a hit song. That’s it,” says Sinotte. “But then you have us who play the song with a live beat pad, live keyboard, live everything. You have Alex singing, Chris on drums. It gets wild.”

Adds Alex, “It’s a poppy-techno sound with a twist. We call it a new age of electro-house.”

The recognition so far has been a small fraction of what the unsigned group can do in less than a year: over 130,000 MySpace views, winners of MuchMusic’s disBAND Audition Tour competition, an upcoming gig performing alonside Canadian Pop singer Danny Fernandes, and an invitation to play at the COCA showcase festival this summer.

“It’s honestly been crazy,” says Alex. “But we’ve been working 24/7 over the past few months, just networking, planning the next steps, so we’re just really psyched to show people our potential.”

One of the reasons for their success so far is their uncanny bro-manship and the credentials that each of them brings to the table.

At 13-years-old, Alex and Chris began working with Canadian producers such as Steve Rizun (Illscarlett, Alexisonfire), and Mitch Hall and Martin Davis Kinack (Brocken Social Scene, Stars, Feist).  Over the next few years they would release their first demo and full length album which brought hundreds of live performances and radio air-play.

The up-and-coming duo then ended up being introduced to on-the-rise Canadian producer Sinotte, known throughout Ottawa as the “Beat Chemist.” Sinotte’s well-rounded 15-year background experience in the production scene was a perfect match, as he’s worked/recorded with Juno Award Winning artist Belly, Capital Prophets Records artist Danny Fernandes, and D12′s Bzarre- to name a few.

The trio hit it off immediately, and went to work in Sinotte’s brand new recording studio that he opened up in his house a year ago.

“The first night we met, we wrote a hit song,” says Chris. “We were just messing around until four in the morning.

“Ever since then, when we crash at his place, we wake up, go downstairs into the beat chemist’s ‘laboratory,’ and start recording stuff. And the best thing is that we have a relationship where if one of us has a beat that doesn’t really fly well, we’ll just be like ‘nah, scratch it man,’ but we’ll understand.”

As they anxiously await for the release of their debut album in the summer, the group agrees that it’ll be a contagious array of party-rocking tunes- modeling after artists like DeadMau 5, Black Eyed Peas and David Geutta.

“It’ll have a pop radio friendly vibe,” says Alex, “something that will get people partying for sure. It’s also got a few instrumental stuff for DJ’s to mess with and a few upcoming hip-hop artists featured too.

“Even though we wanted to get that house sound, we wanted to also incorporate a hip-hop vibe too.”

It’ll boast their raging singles so far like Here We Go Again, Generation Party, And We Don’t Stop, and Dance Bitch. Add in the music video that they hope to release at the same time too, and the group hopes that it’ll set them on course to eventually take on the international scene.

“Worldwide recognition man,” says Sinote.

Adds Alex, “we’re just starting out, but we feel like we have so much to show everyone, just non-stop tunes to get the crowd wild. I know we can do it.”

The current Miss Universe from Venezuela will end her year-long reign later this month with a topless appearance in Maxim, reports Perez Hilton.

The photos of Dayana Mendzoa, 23, will be featured in the September issue of the magazine and have already been posted on their web site. But no actual nudity can be seen as she uses her arms and jewellery to cover the necessary parts.

When asked if she only dates millionaires, the beauty queen responded, “No, he doesn’t have to be a soccer player or an actor, either. He just has to be a special guy who is very genuine.”

O.J. Simpson, who walked away a free man after one of the so-called murder trials of the century has been sentenced to 15 years in jail, with further conditions that may extend his imprisonment by 2 ½ years.

On October 3rd, the 61-year-old former football star was found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping by a Las Vegas jury.

The incident leading to his conviction and then his later sentence on December 5th took place in 2007 inside the four walls of a Las Vegas hotel room, where Simpson provoked a raid to recover sports memorabilia items that he claimed were his.

Simpson’s lawyer, Yale Galanter stressed that the trial unfairly cornered Simpson during its investigations and that the results were ‘overblown charges’.

According to People’s Magazine, Nevada judge Jackie Glass who delivered the sentence made it clear that she was only sentencing Simpson for the actions for which he was currently on trial and not those of his past (referring to the 1994 murders of Simpsons ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman). “The problem is that I can’t ignore that the behavior at the time…was reckless…A gun was used…property was stolen…and now I will sentence you,” she said.

While Simpson remained calm during this delivery he did not hesitate to make an attempted apology to the court for his actions, adding that he denied knowing they were illegal to begin with.

The statement was disregarded and he was then denied bail before being escorted from the courtroom in a navy prison jumpsuit.

The Diana inquest was finished yesterday when jurors found that the Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed “were unlawfully killed by the reckless driving of their chauffeur, Henri Paul, and the paparazzi who chased them,” the UK Guardian reports.

Paul was revealed during the inquest to have been three times over the French blood alcohol limit, with blood tests and other samples.

Princes William and Harry were present to hear the verdict, and later thanked the jury for the “thorough way in which they have considered the evidence”.

“We agree with their verdicts,” the Princes stated, “and are both hugely grateful to each and every one of them for the forbearance they have shown in accepting such significant disruption to their lives over the past six months.”

The Princes said they were also grateful to the people who came forward with evidence, and to “all those who fought so desperately to save our mother’s life on that tragic night.”

Mohamed Al Fayed, Dodi’s father, said he was “disappointed” by the verdict. He believed that his son and the Princess had been killed deliberately, as part of a conspiracy involving the royal family and MI6.

During the six-month inquest, more than 240 witness testified. It is estimated to have cost upwards of £10m.

Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle has died in the New York City plane crash, according to ESPN.

A small plane that crashed into a New York City high-rise building belonged to Lidle, according to multiple reports.

ESPN has reported at 4:50 p.m. that Lidle was the pilot of the plane and died in the crash.

Lidle is one of two confirmed dead, New York police said, reports ESPN.

Nobody on board the flight survived, according to reports.

The crash comes less than a week after the Yankees were eliminated from the Major League Baseball playoffs.

Lidle pitched for seven teams including the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies. He was 12-10 this year with a 4.85 ERA.

The crash is not believed to be a terrorist attack.

Frank Gehry, prolific Canadian architect, has designed a new museum in Paris that will be called the Louis Vuitton Foundation for Creation.

CBC.com reports that the new museum will give a home to art that has influenced fashion over the years (hence, the name).

The museum is founded by Bernard Arnault who is the chairman od luxury goods retailer LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

“As I experienced the world, Paris became my favourite city,” said the Toronto-raised Gehry to reporters.

The building will be glass-clad and situated near the Bois de Boulogne park on the western edge of Paris.

Gehry will be receiving a 100 million euro ($142 million Canadian) paycheque for this commission.

Gehry’s addition to the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto is currently under construction.

The museum in France will start construction next year is expected to be completed by 2010.

On Tuesday, a collection of watercolours and sketches attributed to late fascist dictator Adolf Hitler sold at an auction for $245,500, reports CBC.ca.

More than 50 onlookers and at least two comedians aiming to disrupt the proceedings attended the auction, held in Lostwithiel, England. The comedians, Peter Cunningham and Aaron Barschakalso, shouted things like “Third Reich” and “Mussolini” before being escorted out by security.

The event saw the auctioning off of 21 watercolours and two sketches, each selling in prices ranging from $6,800 to $22,300.

Various Jewish groups and others have protested the sale of these paintings before, as they object to any profit being made off anything Nazi related.

However, the paintings may not even be Hitler’s own. Although the pieces were found in a farmhouse in Belgium near where the Nazi leader was stationed in Flanders, and hold a signature similar to that of Hitler’s, according to the auction house, Jefferys, it is impossible to authenticate them.

The names of both the buyers and the sellers will be kept anonymous.

Oprah is already the queen of TV and magazines, and now she wants to conquer our radios.

Oprah Winfrey’s new satellite radio channel debuted yesterday morning on XM Satellite Radio, reports CBC.ca. The new channel, titled “Oprah and Friends,” will extend her reach beyond her syndicated talk show and “O” magazine, the publication that features Oprah on the cover every month.

The channel will feature a news and gossip show hosted by Winfrey and friend, Gayle King, entitled “The Oprah and Gayle Show,” as well as some feature shows hosted by other frequent guests on Winfrey’s television show. Poet and writer Maya Angelou will contribute, as well as fitness expert Bob Greene, and King will have her own solo program as well.

Although the first guest to appear on the channel is Winfrey’s long-time partner, Stedman Graham, there is also a line-up of high-profile celebrities who will lend their voices to Winfrey. Actress Annette Bening, jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, rock star Jon Bon Jovi and fellow multi-millionaire Donald Trump.

This channel may be an attempt to rival XM’s competitor, Sirius Satellite Radio, who has signed on shock jock Howard Stern and the crafty Martha Stewart to their own respective shows. XM’s other celebrity channels include Bob Dylan and Quincy Jones.

Winfrey signed a three-year $55 million U.S. deal with XM last February.

For the first time ever, the reclusive “representative” behind the mysterious musical project Jandek will perform in Canada.

Though the musician (it is believed his real name is Sterling Smith) has released 46 records since 1978, he has only been performing live since 2004. Since then, just 16 performances have taken place.

But on September 17, Jandek will play before an audience in Toronto, according to local promoter Gary Topp. The show will take place at The Centre of Gravity, a local clown and circus school, complete with trapeze wires.

Tickets for the show are $27, and are currently on sale in Toronto through Rotate This, Sam the Record Man, and Circus Books & Music. They can also be purchased online through www.ticketweb.ca.

Jandek, whose albums are self-released through the Corwood Industries label. He exposed to wider audience through the 2004 documentary, “Jandek on Corwood.”

Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and his daughter have announced plans to write a science book for children.

The two aim to explain theoretical physics in a way that young children could understand, according to the BBC.

Lucy Hawking said the book would be aimed at an audience that could include her own 8-year-old son.

“It is a story for children, which explains the wonders of the universe,” she said.

No other details, including a possible publication date, were released.

The elder Hawking’s bestseller, “A Brief History of Time,” has sold more than 10 million copies since it was first published in 1988.

Influential Austrian composer Gy?rgy Ligeti, known for his contributions to several Stanley Kubrick films, has died at age 83. He passed away Monday in Vienna, Austria, according to the BBC.

Ligeti was born in Romania in 1923, but later took Austrian citizenship. He first began studying music in Romania in 1941, and continued in Budapest. In 1943, he arrested as a Jew under the Nazi regime and sent to a labour camp. Ligeti survived, but several members of his family ? including his brother and father ? did not.

He returned to Romania at the end of the war and began teaching music at the Liszt Academy.

Ligeti’s boundary-pushing musical ambitions were constrained by the communist government in Hungary. After the 1956 uprising, Ligeti fled to Vienna and began creating the avant garde work he is best known for.

Excerpts from his pieces “Atmospheres” and “Lux Aeterna” were used by Stanley Kubrick in his 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Ligeti’s compositions were also used by Kubrick in 1980′s “The Shining” and 1999′s “Eyes Wide Shut.”

Ligeti is survived by his wife, Vera, and son, Lukas.

Patrick Kennedy, a democratic representative, can’t remember a car crash he was part of in the middle of the night. That is precisely why he will enter a Minnesota rehab facility.

According to reports, Kennedy, part of the famous Kennedy family, has battled depression since he was a teenager. He has also had battles with drug addiction, which apparently continue to this day.

He entered a treatment clinic Friday night to fight his addiction to prescription pain medication. He entered the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, the same place he entered in December. He left the clinic after Christmas and returned to Congress “healthy.”

Police originally said the crash may have been because Kennedy, son of Senator Edward Kennedy, appeared to be intoxicated. Kennedy said it had nothing to do with alcohol.

Kennedy was cited with three traffic violations and said he would cooperate with police.

Kennedy said he would not resign from Congress. “”I need to stay in the fight.”

“I simply do not remember getting out of bed, being pulled over by the police, or being cited for three driving infractions,” said Kennedy, 38.

Police indicated that after the crash, Kennedy told them, that he was “headed to the Capitol to make a vote.”

Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1994. He is the nephew of President Kennedy.

I’ve been fighting this chronic disease since I was a young man, and have aggressively and periodically sought treatment so that I can live a full and productive life.

I hope that my openness today and in the past, and my acknowledgment that I need help, will give others the courage to get help if they need it. I am blessed to have a loving and supportive family who is in my corner, and I am grateful to my friends, especially those in Rhode Island, who have reached out to me. I love Patrick very much and am very proud of him. All of us in the family admire his courage in speaking publicly about very personal issues and fully support his decision to seek treatment. He has taken full responsibility for events that occurred Wednesday evening, and he will continue to cooperate fully in any investigation.

I have the rare and special honor of being able to serve with my son in the Congress, and I have enormous respect for the work Patrick has done. The people of the 1st District of Rhode Island have a tireless champion for the issues they care about, and today I hope they join me in feeling pride and respect for a courageous man who has admitted to a problem and taken bold action to correct it.
