Scarlett Johansson (born November 22, 1984 in New York, New York) is an American actress. Johansson's father was born in Denmark, and mother Melanie Sloan comes from a Bronx-bred Jewish family. Scarlett is 5 feet, 4 inches tall. The granddaughter of writer Ejner Johansson, she graduated from The Professional Children's School in Manhattan in 2002.
Her roles include Grace MacLean in The Horse Whisperer; Rebecca in Ghost World; Charlotte in Lost in Translation; Griet in Girl with a Pearl Earring; and Francesca in The Perfect Score. All of these performances garnered positive critical notice. She was nominated for two best actress awards at the Golden Globes in 2003, one for drama (Girl with a Pearl Earring) and one for comedy (Lost in Translation). She was also nominated for best actress for both of those films at the BAFTAs, and won best actress for Lost in Translation. She is also the voice of Princess Mindy in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
She was attached for a short time to the upcoming film Mission: Impossible III, but supposedly dropped out of the project after a dinner date with Tom Cruise and a roomful of Scientologists went awry. The official stance is she dropped out because of scheduling conflicts. [1]
Johansson has revealed that she has no problem with her male co-stars seeing her breasts, as she considers them to be her favourite feature. "I'm proud of my girls. They're my charms, my feminine wiles", she said in a January 2005 interview for Harper's Bazaar. During production of The Island, director Michael Bay reportedly said that Johansson wanted to do some of the sex scenes topless, but he declined, saying "It's PG-13, you have to wear the bra".
