Eva Avila is a 19 year old Canadian singer from Gatineau, Quebec and the 2006 season of Canadian Idol winner. She auditioned for the competition in Ottawa. She has been singing in public since the age of 2, and at the age of 9 was a winner on Homegrown Cafe, a talent show on CJOH-TV, in Ottawa. Prior to Idol, Avila worked as a postal clerk and a beauty consultant. She is a former winner of the Jeune Diva du Quebec contest. Avila is fluent in French, English and Spanish, her father being from Peru. Her nickname, given by her family when Eva was a small child, is Eva le dragon (English: Eva the dragon). To date, she is one of only two singers from Quebec that has been able to crack the top ten and the first to reach the grand finale. Audrey de Montigny was the first in season 1 to reach the top ten.
On September 12, 2006, Avila and fellow Idol finalist Chad Doucette revealed they have been dating for about three weeks.
On Saturday, September 16, 2006, a day prior to the public announcement of the Idol results, Sony BMG Music Entertainment began offering Avila's version of the first single, Meant to Fly, for sale on the website |EvaAvila.com. Although the page was subsequently blanked, the artwork for the single can currently be located within the image files of the webpage.[1] This occurence has led to the creation of many rumour's regarding the winner of the competition.
While winning the 2006 crown, the vote separating the her and runner-up Craig Sharpe was only 131 000 votes [2] Eva will now be on a future tour with singer Martina McBride
