Gatsby is always a great style inspiration, so is Leo DiCaprio.
Prom season is coming up and most likely there are some guys out there who still haven’t even given a thought to what they will be wearing that night. No worries. It’s usually thought that guy’s have it easier than girls when deciding what to wear for prom, which is partly true. But don’t discount the importance of a guy’s sartorial choice for prom night. Some guy’s might feel boxed in when picking a prom look when they feel the need to match their prom date’s outfit, or they might get roped into wearing their dad’s/brother’s/some distant relative’s hand-me-downs because it’s cheap and easy. But don’t fret as there are a variety of men’s looks to choose from.
The famously glitzy Cannes Film Festival in France, which is currently taking place, is a good place to start when deciding on prom looks.
Leonardo DiCaprio & Tobey Maguire
You can’t go wrong with the traditional simple black tuxedo. When in doubt get a tux. The classic look stands alone and will pair nicely with whatever your prom date is wearing. When choosing the traditional black tuxedo little touches can go a long way as seen in Leo’s look, he’s wearing a three-piece suit with black satin lining which helps set himself apart from The Great Gatsby co-star Tobey. Another important thing to remember is fit! Maguire’s tux is tailored fit to his body, the fit is perfection. So if you think of busting out your dad’s ol’ tux make sure you get it tailored, otherwise you’ll look like a kid trying to play dress up.

I seriously don’t know the relationship status between Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber. I thought they were back together but I just can’t assume these things anymore. Last month Selena’s on/off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber landed a double cover of Teen Vogue, and now it’s her turn to grace the newsstands with her cover of InStyle.
But Selena’s won’t be the only face you see on the magazine shelves, here are June’s other cover stars:
Demi Lovato
Selena’s former BFF gets on the magazine action too as she cover’s the June issue of Company.
Miley Cyrus
However, when it comes to former Disney child actresses none can compare to Miley Cyrus. She is this month’s cover megastar! Not only did she land a double cover for Elle UK but she also got three covers for V Magazine. It’s safe to say that we’ve all moved on from Cyrus’ Hannah Montana days as she is a bona fide high fashion darling.

Jennifer Lawrence and Sarah Jessica Parker share a moment on the red carpet.
It can be tough to find the right outfit for the Met Gala. There’s so much pressure to be dressed the best and the competition is steep! Like I said in Part 1, this year’s punk theme might have been a bit too high concept for some people to wrap their heads around. So while some celebrities made some honest but failed attempts at going punk, some celebrities completely ignored the theme all together. So here are our choices for the ones who did not quite make the best dressed list and the ones who completely missed the mark all together.
The Blahs
There’s a lot of the classic Taylor Swift elements going on in the dress, but I find the black so jarring on Swift. Perhaps if this was in Swift’s go to white colour it would work better.
Blake Lively looks like she is channeling her inner Black Swan, but there’s nothing very punk about this.
I love Jennifer Lawrence but this just seems like a case where a celebrity was contractually obligated to wear this design. J. Law is the face of Miss Dior so it makes sense why this happened. It’s pretty but not amazing.
Beyoncé arrives fashionably late at this year’s Met Gala.
Fashion’s biggest red carpet took place this week as celebrities, models, and designers descended upon the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art ball. This year’s theme was punk in honour of their new exhibit Punk: Chaos to Couture. While that was a fun idea, not that many attendees were able to pull off the punk concept. It was kind of like watching an episode of Project Runway where the episode’s challenge was too far out there for some of the designers to wrap their head around. It indeed resulted in one of the craziest Met Gala red carpets ever with so many spikes and studs paired with outrageous hair and makeup! I kind of have a feeling that next year’s theme won’t be so high concept (your move, Anna Wintour)! So let’s check out who made the cut on our best dressed list. And check back for Part 2: The Blahs and the Oh No’s!
Best Dressed
Nina Dobrev can rock on stage and the red carpet in this look, a perfect combo for the gala’s theme.
Loving the studded detail on supermodel Cara Delevingne‘s gown.
Nicole Richie‘s white hair was so jaw dropping and totally badass! The dress might not be punk but the overall look is. Read more…
Maypole dancers surround the maypole with coloured ribbons on May Day, which is the first day of the month.
While some of you might be celebrating the beginning of May dancing to N’Sync’s “It’s Gonne Be Me” and if you don’t know why perhaps this will give you some sort of clue. Others around the world will be dancing to traditional folk music in celebration of May Day, a traditional European spring festival. So in honour of this lovely spring holiday, I’ll be giving you tips on rocking the floral trend that you can take with you well into the summer. And yeah I know what you’re thinking, florals for spring? How groundbreaking! But yes florals are actually a trend for 2013 for both women and men, so check it out!
Floral Crowns

Lana Del Rey, the Queen of the floral crown.
So if you missed out on Coachella, don’t fret because May Day is the perfect (and probably the most legitimate) reason for anyone to be wearing a floral crown. Floral crowns were spotted on the runways and magazine but hit the mainstream thanks to sultry singer Lana Del Rey. They became quite the phenomenon at Coachella and rightly overtook the Native American headdress (this should have never been a trend in the first place) as the hair accessory of choice for concertgoers. Don’t be surprised to see floral crowns at various music festivals this summer.

These poor girls were victims of a Jimmy Kimmel prank at this year’s Coachella.

Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby
Summer blockbuster season is almost upon us and you’re probably just as stoked as I am for a whole new crop of movies to devour. But when it comes to movie fashions, summer blockbusters tend to be big on explosions and less on couture. There’s always just a movie or two each year that leaves the audience with a big sartorial impact. Most people are betting on The Great Gatsby to have the biggest style impact, but just because it has the most fashion hype doesn’t mean it will be this year’s most fashionable film.
So here are the movies of 2013 that you need to keep you eyes on for the film’s fashion and sense of style.
The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famed novel is a rite of passage in any high school english classroom. This novel has made its way to the silver screen before but it is Baz Luhrmann’s super stylized adaptation that has us most excited, making it one of the most anticipated films of the year. The Roaring Twenties was a period of high fashion, artistic expression, crazy parties, and excess. No wonder it’s still a popular period for fashion magazines to take editorial inspiration from, and besides everyone loves a good flapper dress. Although this period piece has the most hype (check out Carey Mulligan’s Vogue cover), the ’20s inspiration might have already reached its peak during the Spring/Summer 2012 runways. Perhaps the film will revitalize last year’s trend and keep it alive.

Disclaimer #1: I’m from Ottawa. Born and raised. Disclaimer #2: I love Rihanna. Ever since “Pon de Replay.” Disclaimer #3: This post about Rihanna in an Ottawa Senators jersey is me being selfish so that this moment can live forever on the interwebz. Disclaimer #4: I believe this moment is a sign from the universe that me and Rihanna are meant to be. Disclaimer #5: I will now try to work Rihanna in a Sens jersey into a meaningful and useful andPOP article.
A jersey or any other sports team apparel, whether from your fav team or not, is a classic staple in anyone’s wardrobe. The only trick is making it fashionable and working into everyday outfits—not just for game day. Sports apparel are handy items for any streetwear ensemble. Even if you’re not a sports fan, there are still ways to incorporate the trend into your look.
Now you might be saying that people wear sports jerseys all the time—which is true—and that there is nothing new to this “trend”–which is a little true too. But here’s the catch: rocking sports jerseys and sports apparel was in its heyday in 90′s hip hop and streetwear. With the emerging 90′s fashion revival, you too are seeing the big return of trendy sportswear to the masses. It’s no longer just for the diehard sports fans to rock a jersey or snapback (and don’t let those diehard sports fans discourage you from wearing their team logos). A big sign that this is true is the announcement that the iconic 90s Starter jackets are set to make their return this fall, first with the NFL line followed by the NBA collection.
The Good Old Hockey Game: Rihanna

Here is Rihanna in West Hollywood using a heritage Ottawa Sens jersey as a dress. Now I don’t recommend using a sports jersey as a dress because not everyone can pull it off, but clearly Rihanna can and beside she probably doesn’t give a fuq. Anyways, she glams up her look with nice gold accessories and and golden Tom Ford ankle cuff shoes. I like this look because it makes me want to believe that the people of Barbados are all diehard hockey fans.
Nicola Roberts
![]()
Now this isn’t a slight to Montreal Canadiens fans (however, you will notice that there will be no Toronto Maple Leafs pics on this post) but this is an example of how not to wear a jersey as a dress. Nicola Roberts (one fifth of U.K. girl group Girls Aloud) actually wore this to a ‘red carpet’ event for the premiere of her reality show. This look is strictly streetwear! It’s all about context, so the posh surrounding just makes her cheap in comparison. Plus, she could have done a lot better accessorizing her outfit! Obviously this wasn’t well received in the U.K., where someone mistook this outfit to be from an American football team.

Justin Bieber is having a crazy time right now. March started with a wild and shirtless 19th birthday party in London which apparently turned out to be the worst birthday ever, he collapsed on stage, he hit a paparazzo, got dissed by his ex Selena, and then got his pet monkey confiscated! That last one sounds unreal, like when did J-Biebs get a monkey anyway?!
Hopefully the month of April will be a turning point for Justin and it’s already off to a good start with the release of his duel Teen Vogue covers for the magazine’s May issue. Judge which cover you like best.

But Justin isn’t the only celebrity who gets to celebrate scoring a magazine cover. April may have just started but the magazine industry is already busting out its May issues.

So check out who also landed themselves a cover and find out which celeb will rule the newsstand!
Oh Yoko! You’ve done it again! Your partnership with Opening Ceremony is just the gift that keeps on giving! But seriously, as a male I do confess that I know nothing about makeup so I’m glad you came up with this video to show me and my boys that there are no limits to what we can do with makeup.
This tutorial video is threaded together by a poem that has amazing lines like, “When you see a rainbow in the sky/Breathe it in/And make your room into a rainbow,” and “Everything that sparkles will bring you a sparkling life/Sparkling eyes, sparkling belly button, sparkling legs.” And even some great advice like “Take rainbow pills – but with caution.” Did we mention the background music? You need to listen the background music.
But it’s not all fun and games as she gets seriously deep. Throw away that mirror, she says!
Yoko has you or your gents covered with make-up tips for daytime, evening and dawn with all three looks just as kooky and amazing as the next. Her oh-so wise advice will pair well with the crotch-grab Opening Ceremony fashion line, which she says was inspired by John Lennon’s body. TMI? TMI.

Oh, Yoko. You win all the awards!

Have you ever wondered what your shoes would say if they talked? Now you don’t have to as Google and Adidas unveiled the Talking Shoe, their new joint project, at SxSW. Sure there are other tech shoes out there that can track how far you can run but can they tell you to get off your lazy butt? Well The Talking Shoe can since it has a speaker built into the shoe’s tongue and is capable of saying up to 250 phrases. Of course, it can also track your performance, give you feedback, and help share your info on social media.
While as amazing as that sounds, what’s even better is that the shoes are sassy! Not only does it come with the iconic three-striped Adidas design and Bluetooth technology, but it appears to possess some British snark via its computerized Brit accent. Personally I would have loved it if they got Michael Cain or Adele to do the voice-over of the shoes, but that would be too much of a good thing. This would be great for those of us who need some trash talking and insults to incite some motivation to hit the gym. May I suggest a surly Simon Cowell, an intimidating Naomi Campbell, or a terrifying Gordon Ramsay to shame us into shape? Just a suggestion.
Fashion wise, I like how they incorporated the Google colours into the sleek black shoes. Read more…
Dear Kim,
First off I just want to say congratulations on your pregnancy. I wish you, Kanye, and baby Kimye all the best!
Now I know this is not the easiest time for you. I can’t speak from first hand experience what it is like to be pregnant (nor will I ever since I was not born with lady parts but that’s besides the point) but I have heard that being with child can do crazy things to your body. Plus you had that recent health scare which must have been really emotionally exhausting to go through.

Also, being technically married to Kris Humphries probably isn’t making your life any easier.
So here’s what I’m proposing: that you take a mental and sartorial time machine back to the time before Kanye and Kris happened to your life. Don’t get it twisted! I’m not saying you need to physically go back in time before you were pregnant. However I think for your mental health you need to go back to a time before all that Kris drama, and then take your wardrobe back in time before Kanye’s stylist overhauled your closet.

I’m sure you’re enjoying going to Paris Fashion Week and hobnobbing with Jay-Z and Beyoncé, but I think it’s safe to say your wardrobe needs to be reset. Like I said in my article on celebrity fashion lines, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Kanye might elevate your Hollywood status, but he can’t help you fashion-wise since Anna Wintour still won’t let you attend the Met Ball (a.k.a. the fashion Oscars). Yeah you might be dressing a little more sophisticated and a lot less overtly sexy, but it just seems like a massive personality overhaul as well. Perhaps until Kanye becomes a full fledged and critically praised fashion designer, then you should take his advice.
So here are some evidence of your fashion WTFs since being Kanye-fied:
1. Peplum snake print (?!!) pants

3. Whatever this is:
The models stomp it out to M.I.A.’s awesome tracks at Kenzo’s Fall/Winter 2013-2014 runway show during Paris Fashion Week.
Did you enjoy last week’s Part 1? Well now that Paris Fashion Week is officially over, you can enjoy some of the best tracks that the models had the pleasure of walking down the runway to. Here are some more fashion week beats to keep you occupied until the next fashion week!
Milan Fashion Week
Children (DARKSTARR Discoteke Remix) – The Rapture at Emilio Pucci: A punk-disco jam for the multidimensional Pucci girl.
Crazy – Ornette at Emporio Armani: A quirky song for a quirky show.
Freedom – Anthony Hamilton & Elayna Boynton at Blumarine: Django Unchained gets the haute couture treatment.

So if you’re anything like me, you probably weren’t sitting front row at any of the fashion shows taking place this past month in New York City, London, Milan and Paris. Heck, you weren’t even standing in the back on your tiptoes craning your neck to get a good look at the latest designs for Fall/Winter! Thankfully the Internet is there to give us a glimpse of all the fashion we’d otherwise miss. Although they say a photograph is worth a thousand words, pics from the runway can’t really transport us to the front row.
Music and fashion go hand and hand, and the right music can really set the tone for a collection. That’s why some designers go all out when it comes to a show’s music. Kenzo (as rejuvenated by the geniuses behind Opening Ceremony) commissioned M.I.A. to create a soundtrack for the entire collection, which is pretty cool! So I compiled a list of songs from some of your fav shows to get you in the mood of all the latest collections. Now you can take Fashion Week and bring it with you on your iPod and make every sidewalk your own personal runway! Get ready to stomp it out!

Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win – Beastie Boys feat. Santigold (Sebastian remix) at DKNY: Because it’s New York and Beastie Boys scream N.Y.C.!!

Elephant – Tame Impala at Marc by Marc Jacobs: Since the show was a 70s psychedelic acid trip. Read more…
Everyone loves the Oscars red carpet. It’s probably the most highly anticipated red carpet in the world and no other red carpet can compare! But it’s not the only velvet carpet A-list celebrities will be walking down on that night. While most of us viewers head to bed once The Oscars ceremony ends – because let’s face it the ceremony always ends late – celebrities are making hurried wardrobe changes and hitting the after-party scene in new outfits. After-party red carpets are a chance for the winners to show off their new prizes and a chance for the losers to still win best dressed of the night. So let’s see who had the best wardrobe change as these celebs face off against themselves!
Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence, the Best Actress winner for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, infamously tripped on her way to accept her award in the pale pink Dior Haute Couture gown but switched it up for a more slinky and silver Calvin Klein dress for the Vanity Fair after-party. This time she got to match her metallic gown with the night’s most coveted accessory, the Oscar statuette.
Anne Hathaway
The Best Supporting Actress winner turned heads on the red carpet in this pale pink Prada gown, but perhaps for the wrong reasons as the darts in the dress emphasized her nipples. Plus, this was a last minute dress choice which resulted in a public apology from the actress to Valentino, who was to be her original choice of designer. She had a chance to redeem herself in a different column dress for the Vanity Fair after-party, this time a blue number from Saint Laurent.

Rihanna just debuted her River Island Collection during London Fashion Week which officially gives her an invitation to the celebrity fashion designers club.
Celebrities can be great people to look up to when looking for style inspiration, but some celebs are a little bit easier to channel sartorially than others as you can purchase a little bit of them through their own fashion lines. However not every celebrity-turned-designer are as good as others.
Let us guide you through the messy world of celebrity fashion lines to see which celebrity fashion lines you should save your change for. We break down who’s worthy of becoming a fashion brand, who’s merely a hit, and who should keep their day job in one handy dandy list.
1) Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen: The Row, Elizabeth & James, Olsenboye, StyleMint, and Mary-Kate and Ashley for Wal-Mart.

Where to begin with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen? The famous duo got their start in the entertainment industry at the ripe ol’ age of six month, when the fraternal twins took turns playing baby sister Michelle Tanner on Full House. That was only the beginning and they went on to build an empire worth over one billion dollars. Apart from the iconic role of Michelle Tanner and their many movies and other T.V. shows, the twins managed to create a name for themselves within the fashion industry.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen top our list because not only have they had a head start in the business than most celebrities, their many fashion lines have managed to boost their fledgling adult acting careers and have given them a new sense of purpose and career path. Their many successful fashion lines have been the envy of other celebrities since they are quintessentially the blueprint for other celebrity fashion lines. The sisters have all markets covered from luxury brand The Row, to mid-market brand Elizabeth & James (the Elizabeth is for their sister who has now become a in-demand actress herself), and Olseneboye which is an exclusive partnership with mass-market department store JC Penney.
So not only are their fashions available to everyone which score major points, but when other celebrities where your clothes then you know you’ve made it as a fashion designer.
Verdict: Major Fashion Brand- for their mass market and high fashion appeal and high-end and low-end price ranges.
2) Victoria Beckham: Victoria Beckham Collection, dvb, and Victoria by Victoria Beckham.

While as Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham wasn’t the usual centre of the attention as she had to compete with the more in-your-face members of the iconic girl group, the Spice Girls. But now that she’s been on her own, Victoria probably commands the most attention from the public than any of the other members of the Spice Girls. While she did attempt and ultimately floundered at a solo pop career, Victoria has maintained her A-list status as a major fashion icon– all thanks to her impeccable fashion sense, her superstar athlete of a husband David Beckham, and her trademark pout.
What makes Victoria Beckham’s fashion lines so successful is that she’s the best brand ambassador for her clothing. Wonder what she’s wearing in all those various paparazzi shots of her? Well she’s most likely wearing her own clothes! Other stars have taken notice as well, having been spotted and photographed wearing clothes from Victoria’s collections. (Other celebrities wearing your designs a major fashion coup!) The problem with celebrity fashion lines are that the celebrities hardly ever wear their own designs! While celebrity designers might don their own designs once in a while, they are never as consistent as Victoria Beckham.
Verdict: High Fashion Brand- for its high fashion appeal but unfortunately her clothes have high-end to mid-market price tags on them. So you better save up!
3) Rachel Zoe: The Rachel Zoe Collection and Luxe Rachel Zoe. Read more…
Everyone knows the 90s are back! Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or have no sense of current fashion trends then I’ll excuse you for your lack of knowledge. However there are some 90s fashion trends that I expected to have stayed put in the 90s to be be never seen from again. Hair buns were one of those trends I assumed would be never resurrected. Unfortunately for us they are back, will they catch on? I hope not.
The Modern Interpretations
Here’s model Cara Delevingne (who’s practically walked every runway during this week’s New York Fashion Week) modelling for the new ad campaign for the DKNY and Opening Ceremony collaboration. Clearly the ad is going for a very 90s look with hair buns and all.
Here’s popstar Jessie J rocking the 90s hair buns on The Voice U.K. with her big hoop earrings and bright red lip she looks like she just time got out of her time machine.
Gwen Stefani is the queen of the mini hair buns. Someone as fashion forward as Stefani can no doubt (pun intended) pull out such an outrageous hair style. This modern interpretation is kind of tame compared to her wilder 90s hair days. You can be the judge and compare for yourself with the pics below.

Now that Gossip Girl is over, are you wondering where you’ll get your weekly T.V. fashion fix? The end of Gossip Girl has left a big fashion hole in the land of television so we’ll be going through a couple of options for you to try. Some of these shows might fill the void, but only time will tell.
The Carrie Diaries
This is the most likely successor to fill the space Gossip Girl has left on our T.V. schedules. Probably because Gossip Girl was the show that succeeded the fashionable and iconic Sex and the City. So with The Carrie Diaries being a prequel to SATC, this new show has all the elements of being your new T.V. fashion fix. As viewers we’ll get to witness the young Carrie Bradshaw (played by the excellent AnnaSophia Robb) discover her voice and love of fashion and we’ll get to see how she became the style icon that we know and love (i.e. Sarah Jessica Parker).
Pros: Fun 80s fashion and a glimpse of a wilder, funkier, and grittier New York City that is long gone. Plus Carrie Bradshaw is back in our lives!
Cons: NYC = fashion and the city was a character in itself for SATC and Gossip Girl but The Carrie Diaries only partially takes place in NYC. Plus being stuck in the 80s means less chances for modern and fashion forward moments.
90210
The Beverly Hills 90210 reboot has somewhat lived in the shadows of Gossip Girl. The original 90210 was a major fashion fix in the 90s, making the Californian ZIP Code the most fashionably coveted place to live during its early run on television. The show put sunny Hollywood Californian style on the map but in the fashion world the West Coast is not actually the Best Coast. NYC is couture while L.A. is Hollywood glam. The new 90210 has all the elements of taking the fashion reigns from Gossip Girl but those are quite big shoes to fill and the window for viewers to get on board on already established show is small (you’re going to have to play a lot of catch-up).
Pros: Its young, beautiful, and stylish cast. Plus the show’s a fashion fix legacy (never forget the amazing shoulder pads of Brenda, Kelly, and Donna).
Cons: The shadow from Gossip Girl still looms, while The O.C. set the standard high for young Californian style in the new Millennium.

Nina Dobrev
What she’s wearing: The Vampire Diaries star was a stunner in this hot pink Elie Saab gown at the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Why we love it: It was so refreshing to see such a bright and bold colour on the red carpet, which is why Dobrev stood out from many of the other stars that night. This sleek gown shows off her killer figure and conveys elegance being a crewneck floor length dress. She cinches the waist with a matching pink leather belt The cutouts keep the dress modern and interesting but doesn’t take away from the overall refined look that Dobrev is sporting.
I can’t even handle how good she looks in that dress!
Takeaway: The colour of your dress can be a very important choice to make– especially on the red carpet. Never box yourself in when it comes to colours as you would be limiting a lot of dress options for yourself. Just because you may not like a certain colour doesn’t mean that colour will look bad on you. In fact you might look stunning!
Cory Monteith
What he’s wearing: Monteith was very dapper in this light grey Calvin Klein tux at the 2013 SAG Awards, where he was nominated alongside his Glee cast-mates.
Why we love it: This was also another look that stood out on the red carpet for its bold colour choice. The light grey tux was hard to miss in a sea of black suits and was a welcome change of pace for men’s red carpet fashions. Not only was it in a great colour but the black contrast lapels are on trend and gave the suit its wow factor. Plus there are a neat black piping detail alongside his trousers which helps elongates the already tall Canadian actor.
Unfortunately we didn’t see Cory do a dance in his Calvin Klein suit.
Takeaway: When looking for a suit always try to get it tailored so it fits your body like a glove. With Monteith already being a tall guy it’s important that his suits works well with his taller build and longer proportions. Same goes for guys on the shorter side. The cut and the fit of the suit need to be just right otherwise it would look very junior, as in a kid wearing a suit for the first time and feeling and looking uncomfortable in his growing and changing body.

Hailee Steinfeld
What she’s wearing: The young actress made the smart choice to wear a Chanel argyle cardigan, black leather skirt with a yellow Chanel clutch to the 2013 Spring/Summer Chanel Haute Couture show during Parish Fashion Week.
Why we love it: Steinfeld is newsboy chic in this Chanel look, making me want to rock a newsboy cap even though I can’t pull it off (I have a large heads and hats never fit! Woe is me!). The argyle cardigan is classic Chanel preppy-chic, while the black leather skirt adds some va-va-voom to the entire outfit. She works the yellow accent colour well with her choice of a bright yellow Chanel bag. Steinfeld finishes off her look with Laboutin pumps, where you get a hint of some bold red colour from the brand’s signature red bottom heels.
A snap with the Kaiser himself! From Hailee’s Instagram account.
Takeaway: Hats can be a great way to accessorize your entire look and can be very functional too as they keep your head warm. So whether its purely functional or fashion, don’t count out hats since they can make some major fashion statements. Plus figuring out how to do your hair can be such a pain, so hats are a great option when you’re having a bad hair day!
Sasha and Malia Obama
What they’re wearing: The Obama sisters brightly stood out at their father’s second-term Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. Sasha braved the cold in this periwinkle Kate Spade wool coat, while older sis Malia opted for a lavender J. Crew coat.
Why we love it: The bright bold colours were such a welcome sight to see in the sea of blah coats and jackets during the Inauguration ceremony. Plus it was cool to see the sisters match as neither sister stood out over the other. However each sister got to rock their own colour and each worked the monochromatic trend well from head to toe! Sasha had matching periwinkle knit scarf and knit gloves with charcoal tights (not pictured), while Malia worked the different shades of purple from her knit scarf, wool coat, and tights (not pictured). Plus I want to steal Malia’s dark azure leather gloves– gimme now!
Malia shows offs her fly moves– a good way to keep warm.
Takeaway: Coats come in an array of colours nowadays so you can actually have a lot of fun with them. Since coats can be quite expensive try shopping for coats in January when most stores are starting to switch out their Winter apparel to make room for their new Spring apparel. Some coats will be considerably priced down so it’s a good opportunity to snatch a jacket now when they are cheaper.

If you were looking for some major Golden Globe FASHAWN then my girl @Britt_Mahaney has got you covered here! Awards season has officially begun and, just like Fashion Week, I’m already suffering from major fashion overload. But that’s a good thing! It just makes my job harder to narrow down the best celeb fashions to a top 5 list, but I enjoy the challenge. So bring it!
Bring It On! Not only a great movie but a great line for a pep talk!
And if you were wondering who my fav Golden Globe look was from then I got to say Jennifer Lawrence was a stunner in that red Christian Dior Couture gown. She had the flu, have you ever looked that good whenever you had the flu? I didn’t think so.
Selena Gomez
What she’s wearing: Gomez was a golden glam goddess in a Versace Atelier dress at the InStyle Golden Globe Awards After Party.
Why we love it: Ladies and gentlemen behold the transformative power of the breakup, add a sexy Versace dress and you’ve got magic! Gomez is no doubt a beautiful young lady but this dress shows how grown up the Disney starlet has come along. The structured bustier dress has a lot of nice intricate design details and golden embellishments which is a perfect fit for such a ‘golden’ event.
— Olivia Paxson (@OliviaPaxson) January 14, 2013
— I Love Pac ? (@kisssMeKidrauhl) January 15, 2013
Takeaway: Gomez is working the monochromatic look even with such a standout metallic dress. She’s keeping all her accessories in the same colour range which helps focus the attention on the intricate dress.
Taylor Swift
What she’s wearing: Swift walked the red carpet at the People’s Choice Awards in this white slinky Ralph Lauren gown.
Why we love it: What a show-stopper! Here’s proof #2 that a breakup can do a person good. While Swift may love to be in relationships, as fans we all know breakups do Swift well in the music and fashion departments. Can we talk about that sexy plunging neckline?! Not only does it show another side to Swift, but I have a feeling a certain British boybander might be kicking himself in the butt right about now. This look is the perfect mix of sex appeal and refined class. Swift pops with her chunky turquoise drop earring.
Don’t worry Taylor, I’d still give you a hug.
Takeaway: Showing cleavage is obviously an easy way to add some sex appeal to your look, but you need to make sure it’s not the only reason why people are talking about your dress. You wanna be remembered for a bit more than just your chest. So while a plunging neckline does give that wow factor, make sure the rest of your dress has enough class to balance out any potential sleaziness.
