Posted on andPOP:

As I finish packing my bags for my holiday vacation to Florida, for which I leave tomorrow, I am happy knowing that this year will be the first in which I don’t miss any precious Toronto Maple Leafs’ games.

Packed in my suitcase alongside my clothes is my brand new Sling Catcher from Sling Media. Working with my Sling Solo device, the Sling Catcher will connect to the TV in my Florida Condo (or hotel) and let me watch and control my cable box from my bedroom in Toronto, over the internet.

Priced at $379.99 CDN and available since October, the Sling Catcher is a great idea this holiday season. In order to watch your cable box anywhere in the world, you will also require a Sling Solo ($209.99 @ BestBuy) or PRO-HD ($379.99), these devices link up to your cable box and internet connection and send your cable or satellite signal over the web. While you can watch these feeds from any computer with a high-speed internet connection, the Sling Catcher bridges the gap between the computer and the TV, allowing you to watch the signal on any TV, anywhere in the world.

The Sling Catcher also allows you to watch any media from a plugged in USB hard drive or USB Stick, computer, or websites like Hulu.com (only in the U.S.) and YouTube.com.

The Slingbox PRO-HD is capable of streaming high definition (HD) content from satellite, cable or DVRs from your home to anywhere in the world with a high-speed internet connection.

More info on the devices can be found here: http://ca.slingmedia.com/go/buy

Posted on andPOP:

Seemingly inspired by a PVC tube corner-connector, LaCie’s latest diversion from the world of hard-drive comes in speaker form. Design by Neil Poulton out of France, the LaCie USB Speakers are a modern, lightweight and welcomed addition to the realm of desktop speakers.

The $59.99 (USD) speakers are completely plug and play for both PC and Mac, requiring no drivers. They work over USB which means no need for a power adaptor (they’re bus-powered).

The last time I was impressed by the design of a set of desktop speakers was the harman/kardon Soundsticks (they went great with my iMac G4). Since I stopped using those a few years ago, I haven’t actually used a pair of desktop speakers.

The minimalistic and modern design of the LaCie USB speakers make them an easy addition to any design conscious user. They look great next to a white MacBook or a current generation aluminum MacBook or MacBook Pro.

If there’s one complaint for Apple’s line of notebooks it’s their horrendously low speaker internal speaker volume. When I use my laptop at my desk, the $59.99 the LaCie speakers are an affordable and appreciated addition.

The sound volume of the speakers is considerably good for an office or working space, but don’t expect to wake the neighbours with them. As an audiophile, you may notice some deficiencies on the lows but considering their small physical footprint and overall great quality, this isn’t a huge issue.

While intuitively designed to hide cables and even allow the input of an iPod or other audio device (through a 3.5mm jack), the speakers give no ability for volume control, or volume level feedback on the unit themselves. The audio input has been great, allowing me to connect both my desktop (through the 3.5mm jack) and my laptop (through the USB) to the speakers and use them for both computers while at my desk.

Being USB powered has its obvious costs/benefits. On the plus, the direct digital USB connection provides for a better quality signal to the speakers, while at the same time it means sacrificing an important USB port.

The setup is extremely simple and completely plug and play. Just take the speakers out of the box and insert the USB. You’re ready to go. If for some reason they don’t start to work, just launch System Preferences (or Control Panel on a PC), go to your sound preferences and select the USB Audio Device as your sound output.

These speakers are a great addition and have earned a permanent spot on my desk. There are no alarming trade-offs between form and function, and the apparent focus on both has created a great product at a great price.

Posted on andPOP:

As a techie, it’s often hard enough for me suspend my disbelief when certain pieces of technology show up in movies. Maybe Wikipedia really is the ultimate resource for information, so much so that even the “resident geek” in a movie no longer needs to hack into complex databases to retrieve important information. Just look it up in Wikipedia.

As I finished an (exceptionally good) episode of Dexter, I let the tube play on and take me into the adventure that was National Treasure: Book of Secrets (sequel to the riveting Nick Cage movie of similar name from ’04).

Take a look below at the screen capture. What you see is a picture of a computer screen that Riley Poole (Cage’s computer geek extraordinaire) was using to find information on Queen Victoria.

Look familiar? Riley utilized his computer mastery to delve onto Wikipedia and give Cage some important dates. First, the date Prince Consort died in 1861, and finally the key to unlock the mystical code, 1876, the date Victoria became the first Empress of India.

In all its shamelessness, screen grab in hand, producers still attempted to fool any savvy proletariat by inverting the screen colours and changing the Wikipedia logo to that of “FindOnline”.

Maybe I’m going overboard with this segment of “what really grinds my gears” but it really makes it hard to enjoy a movie when one minute the key researcher is finding invaluable information on “Wikipedia” and the next second hacking into security systems and setting off fire alarms.

I guess what it comes down to is if you’re going to rip-off Wikipedia, either give it a credit or make it harder for me to realize. Maybe I’m bored, but that just bothered me.

Posted on andPOP:

The dock pack by Scandyna is supposed to be a sleek, modern take on the iPod Dock, but is instead clunky, awkward and a mess of wires.

The dock pack consist of three components: two speakers and the actual dock itself. The two speakers are round, about the size of a grapefruit, and stand on three small plastic legs. The small dock component of the system stands alone, and the pack comes with 6 changeable dock shapes, so that every kind of iPod can be used with the dock. This is probably the strongest feature of the product, and comes in handy when hosting a party and you want to mix up the music by using your friend’s iPod.

While your hopes are set high after seeing the stylish package and unique design, the dock pack falls incredibly short. The instruction booklet is very brief and doesn’t actually tell you how to connect the three sets of wires that come with the dock pack. Luckily my sister was around and knew what to do because she had set up a iPod dock before, but otherwise I would have has no clue what to do.

When it came to actually setting the dock up, it was difficult to distinguish how to connect the wires to the dock. There were blue and red wires, and blue and red sockets to connect them to, but it was hard to decide where exactly to place the wires. Again, my sister, who had set up a dock before, could figure it out eventually, but even she had a hard time making the wires connect to the system. When I tried to start playing music, I had to move the wires around a bit to actually establish a connection between the speakers and the iPod.

I set the dock pack up on a table in my room, and there were wires and cords everywhere. Again, this is fine, but the whole point of the dock pack, to my understanding, is to be less clunky and awkward than a typical dock. While the dock pack may take up less space and allow for the increased mobility of the speakers, the extra cords and wires make it ugly and inconvenient. The actual sound coming from the speakers was fine, but nothing exceptional.

Another problem with the dock pack: the remote control that comes with the device didn’t work. It came with a battery and everything, but wasn’t working with the dock. Again, there was nothing in the instruction booklet that outlined how to activate the remote.

Overall, the dock pack was a disappointing experience. The packaging shows the dock and is intriguing, but in reality the device doesn’t live up to expectations. If you are looking to buy a dock, I would recommend looking into a more traditional model, as this new wave of docks are more trouble than they’re worth.

Posted on andPOP:

Technology, it seems, is in a constant state of transition and it’s often hard to stay current. Last year’s hi-definition disc battle illustrated just how quickly a format can descend into obsolescence.

One format that has long since gone the way of the dinosaur is VHS. The tape which claimed victory over Sony’s Betamax in the format war of the 1980’s was a staple of almost every household. After being effectively killed off by DVD’s, VHS found itself in an awkward afterlife. Electronics retailers continued to sell VCR’s, but with no new content released on tape, the concept was dead in the water.

The only reason to keep a VCR in the house was to watch old videos and home recordings. In this world of digital transference, that logic equates to a bunch of wasted space.

Enter the Pinnacle Video Capture Suite for Mac, a brilliantly simplistic way of turning analog content into digital video files.

There are dozens of video capture options on the PC, but the Mac has been left out in recent years. This is partially due to Apple’s lack of user-swappable video cards. On a PC, users can install their own video cards with video-capture ability. Apple’s closed system restricts this freedom in favour of aesthetic purity.

Pinnacle’s steak-shaped product requires two connections: one to your Mac’s USB port, and the other to your VCR via a composite or S-Video input. The video connection cables are not included with the unit, but most VCR’s do come with them.

Once these connections have been made, Pinnacle’s OSX application launches and begins the capturing process. It’s simple: press play on the VCR, hit the red button and the digitization begins. Video capturing is normally a resource hog, bogging down your system’s processing power and RAM usage. Pinnacle’s product features a built-in MPEG-4 encoder for all the grunt work, meaning your Mac won’t break a sweat during the import. The MPEG-4 codec is also compatible with iPhone, iPod, and Apple TV right out of the box. I was astonished to see how effective this process worked.

Pinnacle doesn’t include any video editing software but who needs it? Apple’s built-in iLife suite happily accepts the MPEG-4 format and allows for complete flexibility of the encoded file. I was able to import some old home movies with the Pinnacle, edit them in iMovie and later burn them in iDVD. Pinnacle’s product fits perfectly into the Apple ecosystem of simplicity and flexibility.

DVD discs remain the format of choice for newly-released video, but their extinction is already foreseeable. I predict the future of video to be 100 per cent digital, a concept exhibited by Apple TV and the XBOX 360’s Video Store. Some prefer physically owning their content, a tangible manner of ownership, but in this green-obsessed world, the elimination of all physical packaging is unavoidable and understandable. As hard drives get bigger and cheaper, they’ll become the medium of choice for media storage.

Pinnacle, it seems, agrees with this logic. By jumping straight from the archaic VHS format to the digital MPEG-4 format, the Video Capture for Mac effectively skips a stage of obsolescence.
The Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac is available for $99 USD, a small price to pay for the elimination of that clunky VHS collection.

Pros-

Brilliantly easy to use

Converts to flexible and compatible MP4 format

Doesn’t hog system resources

Cons-

Doesn’t include video/audio cables

When you invest over $2000 in a piece of technology, one of the most important accessories is the one you’ll use to carry it around. When I got my MacBook Pro, the first thing I did was throw it in a sleeve; the next thing was throw out my old bag and search for a new one. The choice was broad, ranging from full-size back packs to business carry-alls to small sleeves with few pockets. One of the brightest stars of the bunch came from Mambo Cargo by WaterField Designs.

The Cargo Mambo Combo came well equipped. The Combo featured the Cargo Sleeve Bag, a Laptop Sleeve, Shoulder Strap and accessory pouch.

The Bag

The Mambo bag was immediately impressive, taking quite some time to find every little pocket. One thing most bag makers seem to forget is the importance of pockets. The Mambo is a really great example of a bag that utilizes its real-estate to provide exceptionally useful storage space, without compromising the overall look. The Mambo uses its flap, front-side, body, backside and one of the sides for storage. Many of the pockets have extra organizers in them for such things as business cards, pens and pencils and media devices. It was really refreshing to see the attention to detail put into this product. Whether it’s the unique clipping strap on the front of the flap, the way the shoulder strap is easily stored on the side of the bag, or the protective lips on the top of the main storage compartment, this bag shows-off quality and detail at every corner.

When you first look at this bag, you may be surprised to realize that unbuckling and lifting the front flap does not reveal the main storage compartment. Instead, the main storage pocket is always accessible from a zipper on the top of the bag. While this certainly represents an interesting paradigm shift in the design of carrier bags, this is certainly an improvement I was quite happy with. This makes accessing your most important stuff extremely easy, while maintaining a traditional look.

The actual design of the bag is interesting as well. The unit I had a Silver-Black design on the front, as well as on the computer sleeve. While I generally like the design, I did get mixed reviews from people. While some really liked modern and somewhat flashy look, others felt it was a bit too flashy. If you don’t want to stand out much, this bag may not be for you.

The overall build of the bag is extremely impressive. The Cargo Mambo screams quality. Everything form the material used to the zippers and inside compartments. The only thing lacking inside the main compartment is more padding for laptop protection. While the sleeve is great, it is optional and I would not recommend using this bag for your laptop without some additional protection, whether it be the Mambo Sleeve or an alternate choice.

The Accessories

The Cargo Mambo Combo comes with some great additions. The padding for the shoulder strap makes using the bag much more comfortable and much more usable, while the well thought-out computer sleeve gives your notebook the added protection lacking in the bag itself.

<!--–>
The sleeve was really impressive, fitting my 15″ MacBook Pro perfectly. The velcro strap on one end helps keeps your computer safely inside the sleeve, while the pull-tab strap on the opposite side greatly aids while removing your computer. Highlights of the sleeve include the paper-sized (and extremely useful sleeve) and the incredible build quality, succeeded only by the bag itself.

The Cargo Mambo Combo comes with the choice of a “Gear Pouch” or “Cable Guy”. Both cases are similar and come in the choice of three different sizes and multiple colour patterns. While both cases are similar, the “Gear Pouch” is likely more appropriate for some smaller items and accessories, especially a student, carrying pens, pencils, a calculator and an iPod. I would recommend a “Cable Guy” to anyone carrying around some larger items, like a mouse, cables (duh!), and even small hard-drives.

<!--–>

Conclusions

The Cargo Mambo Combo is one of the best laptop/bag combinations I have ever used. Right out of that packaging I was immediately impressed with the design, while the build impressed me equally as much as soon as I started using it. Functionally, the bag provides almost everything a user might need, including tons of easy access to pockets, lots of real-estate for all types of items, many compartments for smaller items, along with some of the most thought-out and detailed design considerations you could ask for. The Mambo Combo might not be perfect for everyone; it wasn’t always perfect for me. But if you’re looking for a laptop bag for casual use, the Cargo Mambo Combo delivers the perfect combinations of style and functionality at a fairly reasonable price.

Posted on andPOP:

Product: Optoma MovieTime Digital DVD Projector
Link: www.Optomausa.com
Price: Varies, $799.99–999.99

The Optoma MovieTime Digital DVD Projector is an interesting product combining a consumer level DLP projector with a DVD player, trying to fill a niche consumer market for those looking for a simple all-in-one home entertainment system. No cables are required with this ultra-portable entertainment system, in addition to the built in DVD player, the Optoma comes equipped with integrated speakers.

Portability is a big advantage with this unit, the ability to take it and get up and running virtually anywhere in under two minutes is a huge benefit. Weighing only 7.8 lbs, the units included carrying case means you can pick up and go whenever you want with ease. One disadvantage for those content with leaving the projector in room, is the lack of support for wall/ceiling mount. Having the projector on a stand right next to you might become somewhat of an annoyance.

Don’t get too excited about the built in DVD player, especially if you’re on the leading edge of technology. The system has a native resolution of only 854 x 480 (480p) which means you won’t be seeing any high definition coming out of this system (The system also supports SXGA+ 1400 x 1050). Even more disappointing about the built-in DVD player was its terrible and unpredictable support for burned discs. Putting all ethical and legal issues of pirating aside, and assuming that the only burned discs you plan to watch are backups of DVDs you own or home videos recorded on a DVD, the built-in DVD player was passable at best. Some DVDs would spin-up in the player but fail to load, while others worked perfectly. I had no problem with commercially produced DVDs, all of which loaded perfectly. While system’s DVD player supports other formats (MP3, WMA, JPEG, Audio CD, DVD, VCD) I found similar playback issues with some VCD discs. Five years ago it was acceptable when my DVD player didn’t work with some brands of blank media, today however, there is no reason a DVD player should not be compatible with 99% of the available blank media out there today.

Computer connectivity ultimately led to to even more disappointing results. My first attempts to connect my MacBook Pro to the projector gave me weird results. At first, the machine would indicate “no signal” even though it was recognized and configurable on the Mac. After a quick restart, the desktop would flicker on the projector for about half a second before reverting back to the “no signal” screen again. Finally, I turned to the Optoma website to investigate further what I had assumed was surely a simple oversight on my part. However, this was not the case. Buried in the seperate product F.A.Q. section, I found my answer, albeit brief and non-descriptive:

Q: My DV10 will not display the output from my MAC laptop. I checked the cable and output with a monitor. Is there something else I can try?
A: Some models of Apple Laptops and Desktops may be incompatible with the DV10 input. You may need to use a different Optoma projector model to display the image desired.

The unit itself is fairly easy to use and set up. It comes with a remote as well as some necessary video cables, however it does not come with a VGA cable for computer connectivity; a big let-down. You can completely navigate the non-user-friendly projector menus with the built-in buttons on the projector itself, or using the remote, which works to control both the projector and built-in DVD player.

The price of the projector varies, in some places it sells for as low as $799.99, while at other retailers it sells for $999.99 with a screen. The overall value is fair, considering the price of projectors has come down quite a lot in recent years and considering it uses what can now be considered out-dated technology. If you’re looking for a cheap, portable projector, with fair quality and convenience, you should take a look at the Optoma MovieTime, however, be prepared for some frustrations and don’t expect to use your latest HD or BluRay DVDs.

Link: http://audioengineusa.com
Price: $349

Speaker systems are an essential part of any computer system, whether you’re a gamer, music enthusiast or just love answering your emails.

In 2002, Audionendinge was formed, combining 36 years of audio industry experience into one company whose goal was “to design and build high quality studio monitor speakers at affordable prices.” Undoubtedly, that goal as been achieved.

For two months I’ve been testing a pair of AudioEngine 5 speakers. These speakers deliver more than I could have expected, permanently replacing my old stereo speaker system.

The first sign of quality came while un-boxing the speaker set. Both speakers were elegantly packaged and secured in string-sealed cotton bags. The most surprising revelation came not from the speakers themselves, but with the included extras. Many companies these days opt-out of including extra accessories such as accompanying wires or cables. The AudioEngine 5 comes with everything you need: 1/8″ audio cable, 2 meters (~6.5ft), (2) 1/8″ audio cables, 20cm (~8″), 1/8″ to RCA “Y” cable, USB power extender cable, 1 meter (~3.28ft), and speaker wire (16AWG), 3.75 meters (~12.3ft). These additions were a nice welcome and strong sign of quality and care. The speaker set also comes with a 3-year transferrable warranty, another luxury which usually comes in the form of added cost with most products.

The speakers are extremely versatile, with a number connections along back allowing you to connect a multitude of devices. The back panel features just one input, a 1/4 inch stereo input as well as “outs” to the right speaker and stereo RCA Sub outputs. Conveniently added is an auxiliary output, a great addition to make up for the AC that the speaker system takes up itself, but even better for something like an iPod charger or AirPort Express for easy music streaming. Perhaps most unique and convenient about this speaker system are the additional connections located on top of the unit. A USB port allows for easy iPod charging, so if you want to use these speakers for iPod playback, you don’t have to worry about battery. The second is another 1/4 inch stereo audio input, for an additional source, such as the iPod you’ve got charging, or a laptop. One drawback with this system is that the USB port cannot play-through in itself, that is to say that you cannot for example plug-in a first generation Shuffle (or any other USB audio device) and play tracks from there. The USB acts simply as a charging station. As mentioned before, however, the speaker system does come with all the appropriate cables in order to utilize your iPod (or other device).

The speakers have really strong bass response, with built-in subwoofers, and delivers exceedingly well on the highs. The overall sound quality is extremely crisp with the AudioEngine 5 speakers. Even at high volumes (and these speakers can go LOUD!) the sound is still great and there is little hiss.

At front, the left speaker has a convenient volume knob so that you have more control over the sound from whatever devices you are using. A remote would be a nice addition in the future, especially if more iPod integration is built into the system.

After only a couple minutes with these speakers you’ll realize they’re great. They have a strong and elegant build, they sound great and they are extremely versatile. With a 3-year warranty and free shipping, if you’re still not convinced you can take the speakers for a “30-Day Free Audition”. At $39 a pair, you’ve gotta check out the AudioEngine 5 speakers for a look at what might be the best sounding powered speaker system in that price range.

Posted on andPOP:

Off-road racing fans get ready as Sony announces MotorStorm exculsively for PS3. If you’re familiar with World Rally Championship (WRC) you’re going to like this one, brought to you by the same development team over at Evolution Studios.

The game features a 12-player online mode, real-time track deformation, where ruts in the track will remain and cause each lap to be different, an aggressive artificial intelligence (A.I.) system that scales to the player’s abilities, and spectacular crash sequences that take full advantage of the PS3 hardware.

“MotorStorm showcases the power and technology of the PS3 with its combination of next-generation online and offline gameplay functionality and life-like A.I.,” said Jeff Reese, Director, Software Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “With over-the-top action, cinematic crashes, and exhilarating gameplay, consumer anticipation for the game has been overwhelming. Not only do we expect thrill seekers to enhance their PS3 library with MotorStorm, we believe the game will ultimately draw more consumers to the PS3.”

In MotorStorm, players descend upon the badlands of Monument Valley for the MotorStorm Festival to celebrate an alternative racing culture. The festival is highlighted by a no-holds-barred off-road race with aggressive and competitive opponents all gunning for the championship title. Players will cut through mud paths, speed over sand dunes, and launch across rocky cliffs in an extreme race to the finish line, all of which is underscored by a rocking soundtrack. The competition is fierce and it’s a survival of the fittest with MotorStorm’s combat-like racing. The physics-based car damage feature heightens the challenge, allowing for any of the seven vehicle types to break and destroy parts upon collisions with other racers.

MotorStorm is rated “T” for “Teen” by the ESRB (www.esrb.org)

Price: $29.95 per module or $49.95 for two

When I first heard of Pzizz a few months ago before MacWorld, I simply laughed. A program that will play sounds and put me to sleep – could you blame me? And then about two weeks ago I had one of the best sleeps I’ve had in a while.

Research is continually showing that a good nights sleep and napping during the day can be beneficial: “Researchers announced today the results of an a 25 year study on the effects of napping in industrial and post-industrial nations. The study’s outcome was clear – “for 92.5% of workers, an afternoon nap increases their productivity, and their creativity and problem solving skill.” In layman’s terms, they not only get more done, but their work is better, too.” (Dateline: IP Clinic, Marin County, California.)

58 percent of adults report trouble falling asleep a couple nights a week, while 35 percent report suffering from insomnia at least a couple nights a week (http://www.neurocrine.com/ar03/indiplon.htm). In the face paced, demanding world we live in today, those statistics aren’t frighteningly surprising, especially considering I might say I fall somewhere within those statistics.

Pzizz is a simple program, comprising of two “modules”, the Energizer Module and the Sleep Module. Based on user settings, Pzizz will create an audio file (which you can play directly from Pzizz or export for use in iTunes or on an iPod) that help you to, well, get energized or fall asleep.

When creating a new audio file, you can choose which module to use, name it, chose your mix between voice and background music and determine the length of the file (anywhere from 15-60 minutes). Once a module has been created, it shows up in the source list in Pzizz, indicating its name, module type and length. Each time you select a created “nap” from the source list, Pzizz automatically recreates an original audio file for you based on the settings of that specific nap, so that you don’t get too familiar with the audio, which would decrease its effectiveness. This is a great feature, especially when you are considering the value you get for what you pay. When you purchase a tape or CD designed to help you fall asleep or get energized, you’re stuck with one repeating audio file for as long as you chose to use it. With Pzizz, each experience is brand new, the audio files never get dull or old. So while you might get stuck with one recording for a $40 CD, with Pzizz you’re essentially getting millions of combinations.

Overall the software was easy to use, but took a little bit to get used to. If you accidentally download the program without any modules, you might find yourself a little lost. Don’t forget that the sleep and energizer modules have to be downloaded and installed separately (unless you download the bundle). Once you make your first few naps, you should be alright handling the software.

Pzizz is a cross between a coaching system and hypnosis. The actual audio files consist of a man’s voice, speaking phrases such as: “Now, rest is on your mind. But soon, rest will be taken by your body” from the sleep module and “All you need to do, is let your mind and your body get more and more relaxed” from the energizer module. This calming voice is accompanied by even more relaxing music and sounds in the background.

If this all sounds corny, I can’t blame you. I had heard all the same and still mocked the idea of Pzizz. So if I can’t convince you that it works, I’ll go by the old adage, “actions speak louder than words”. Go to http://www.pzizz.com/downloads.asp where you can find a sample 15 minute energizer soundtrack and a sample 15 minute sleep soundtrack to try out for yourself. Keep an open mind and you may be surprised. I’ll wait, go ahead, try it now.

Okay, refreshed? I hope so.

Pzizz is so dynamic its perfect for anyone. Students, business people, on the plane, in the middle of the day, whenever or wherever you like. That’s the beauty of Pzizz, you control how long you nap for. If you find yourself getting less and less yours of sleep every night, or a little too tired in the middle of the day and in need of a refresher, this is going to bed the best $50 you’ve spent in a while. You can’t put a price on feeling great.

Keep in mind that every person responds to things like personal hypnosis differently, some more susceptible than others. Personally, I find the sleep module more effective for myself, but with time I hope to become a better “napper”. I look forward to seeing some new features and more modules in the future.

Stanton DJ, a designer and manufacturer of professional audio products for club and mobile DJs and turntablists, introduces the ÜBERSTAND laptop stand, a tool for the traveling laptop DJ or musician.

Folds flat into a 12” zippered bag (included)
Metal – aircraft grade – aluminum and stainless steel
Lightweight and small form factor when folded
Adjustable shelf to store Final Scratch ScratchAmp or external hard-drive
Reusable plastic ties and Velcro

The ÜBERSTAND will retail for $79.99.
