(andPOP) - KEITH RICHARDS' ashes-snorting confession has won the wrinkly rocker the chance to compete with the reunions of THE POLICE and GENESIS as the Event Of The Year at the upcoming Classic Rock Awards in London.

The Rolling Stones star revealed he once snorted his father's ashes in an interview at the beginning of the year (07) only to dispute the comment after it appeared. He recently admitted the story was true.

And that has earned Richards an odd nomination at the 5 November (07) wards ceremony, where former Led Zeppelin star Jimmy Page will be honoured as this year's Living Legend.

The awards show's most contested category will be Band Of The Year, which Muse, Velvet Revolver, Aerosmith, Rush and Black Sabbath offshoot Heaven & Hell will compete for.

Velvet Revolver have also been nominated for Album Of The Year - their Libertad release will compete with albums by Ian Hunter, Porcupine Tree, Rush and The Who. (KL/WN/GES)
