Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - The remaining five "Canadian Idol" finalists were guest mentored this week by Kelly Clarkson, the first winner of "American Idol," as they performed songs by their musical idols.
"The thing about Kelly is she has massive acclaim - critically and commercially; that is very rare," judge Sass Jordan said about Clarkson.
The shock of the night came when Clarkson was shown sitting front row for the show.
Matt Rapley did "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder. Clarkson said he sang more into the song than his body showed. She suggested he put more into the physical part of his performance.
Rapley did as much as he could to move a little more, and the judges pretty much agreed, telling him he did a great job, and that he took his performance to the next level.
Dwight D'Eon performed "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi, while proving he can play the guitar and the piano. Clarkson said he had a really raspy voice which she thought was cool, and that he sang the song like he wrote it.
"And the fact that she said, 'you're way better than I thought you were going to be,' was huge," D'eon said about Clarkson's comments.
Farley Flex told him it was the best performance he had ever done.
"You've made your bed, enjoy lying in it," he said.
Zack Werner reminded the judges, D'Eon and the voters that it is the judges' job to criticize the performer, not the individual performance.
"I don't think you sing well enough to win this competition," Werner told him.
Jaydee Bixby performed, no surprise here, an Elvis Presley song, "I Can't Stop Loving You," which he did earlier, but the Ray Charles version.
"His voice is probably the loudest voice I've ever heard, and I'm loud!" Clarkson exclaimed.
Bixby also confirmed to Clarkson if he wins he will make a country record, not a pop one (again no surprise).
He got a standing ovation from everyone but Clarkson.
"You ain't Elvis that's for sure," Jake Gold told him.
Carly Rae Jepson sang "Chucky's in Love" by Rickie Lee Jones, an artist which she has loved since a child.
Gold said he was worried when he saw she was singing this song, but it all melted away when she performed and blew it out of the park.
"You are a professional...you understand how to entertain people; good for you," Flex told her.
Brian Melo sang "Karma Police" by Radiohead to close the night, giving his best performance to date.
Melo got a standing performance from not only the crowd, and the judges, but also from Clarkson.
"I hope the people at home understand what they just saw, that's all I'm going to say," Gold said, most likely in reference to the "shocking" elimination of Greg Neufeld two weeks ago.
The results show is two hours earlier tomorrow - at 7:30 p.m. instead of 9:30. Clarkson will perform and someone (my pick's D'eon or Bixby) will go home.
