(andPOP) - Rocker PERRY FARRELL has blamed bandmate DAVE NAVARRO's reality TV talent contest ROCK STAR for breaking up JANE'S ADDICTION.

The frontman reveals the group fell apart when guitarist Navarro started co-hosting the reality series, which found singers for INXS and Tommy Lee supergroup Rock Star: Supernova.

Farrell admits he "just couldn't believe it" when Navarro announced he was fronting a mainstream TV show.

He says, "Rock 'n' roll has never been about kissing ass and a contest. You know, rock 'n' roll is self-expression. It's defiance. It's freedom."
