(andPOP) - Justin Timberlake brought Sexy Back to last night's MTV Europe Music Awards in Copenhagen. JT played host to the event and ended up rewarded with two of the top prizes at the annual awards ceremony: best male and best pop act.

"Thanks MTV. Thanks Copenhagen. And thanks to my mum for birthing me best male," Timberlake joked upon recieving the award for Best Male.

The only other repeat winner of the night was Gnarls Barkley - the group won for "Best Song" for their hit "Crazy" and also picked up the "Future Sounds" award, which was voted on by their fellow peers, the artists, rather than fans and viewers.

Surprisingly, Madonna was shut out of the awards this year, even though she went in with three nods.

Meanwhile, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who had four nominations, walked home with only one trophy: best album for "Stadium Arcadium."

Other winners included Christina Aguilera, who bested Madonna, Beyonce, and Shakira to pick up the best female act award, and Depeche Mode, who won best group.

Kanye West was named best hip hop but will be remembered for throwing a tantrum when he lost out to Justice vs. Simian's remix "We Are Your Friends" in the best video category.

West said he worked for a month on the video for his hit song "Touch The Sky" and he deserved the award.

"That was some complete bullshit, a spreading-the-wealth type thing," he said.

This year's MTV Europe Music Awards were held in the convention centre in Copenhagen, and featured performances by Muse, Nelly Furtado, and Diddy. The Killers and Snoop Dogg also hit the stage, but from a central Copenhagen square.
