(andPOP) - Brendan Fraser has signed on to play the father, Mortimer "Mo" Folchart, who also is known as Silvertongue, in the big screen adaptation of "Inkhart," Reuters reports.

The best selling children's novel, written by Cornelia Funke, follows the story of Mortimer who has the power of bringing storybook characters to life when he reads their stories out loud.

However, he mistakenly releases some villains who kidnap him, his daughter and her friends. The characters – both real and imaginary must band together to right things.

Ian Softley is set to direct, the film will be released by New Line.
