(andPOP) - The new film adaptation of TV's "Miami Vice" has replaced "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" as top dog at the box office, after Johnny Depp's swashbuckling sequel held the spot for three weeks.

Reuters reports that "Vice" brought in approximately $25.2 million US across North America in its debut weekend.

The movie stars Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell as undercover anti-drug detectives in the sordid underbelly of Miami. Directed by Michael Mann, the film had a budget of $135 million. Exit polls of film audiences showed that Foxx was the main draw for movie-goers.

Foxx and Mann worked together previously on 2004's "Collateral," which took in $24.7 million for its debut.

After "Pirates," which took in $20.5 million for its fourth weekend, the top five was rounded out by "John Tucker Must Die," and animated features "Monster House" and "The Ant Bully."
