Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - Sofia Coppola's new film, "Marie-Antoinette," received a cold reception at it's first Cannes Film Festival press screening on Wednesday. The film ? an early favourite for the Palme d'Or prize ? was booed by the audience at the end of the showing, according to the BBC.
The period drama, which stars Kirsten Dunst as history's largely misjudged Queen of France, is the first film Coppola has directed since 2003's award-winning "Lost in Translation."
Coppola said she was "disappointed" upon hearing about the negative reaction.
"It is better to get a reaction that people really like it or don't like it, than no response," she said. "Hopefully some people will enjoy it ? it is not for everybody."
