Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - South Youth are planning to launch their summer tour at legendary New York club CBGB, marking their first appearance at the venue since 1992, reports Billboard.
The veteran rock band will play a June 13 show at the club to kick off their U.S. tour, the same day their new studio album, ?Rather Ripped,? will be released via Geffen.
CBGB is set to close later this year after the owners lost a leasing battle with landlords in 2005.
Supporting Sonic Youth on the tour will be Tall Firs, Be Your Own Pet and Awesome Color.
The tour will also feature the debut of former Pavement bassist Mark Ibold, who will be filling the role vacated by producer/multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke. O?Rourke participated in Sonic Youth's prior three studio albums but opted out for "Rather Ripped."
On top of seven support dates with Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth will also play at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee, Lollapalooza in Chicago and the Kuyahoga Festival in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, this summer.
More dates are expected to be announced.
TV viewers can also watch for a Sonic Youth cameo on ?Gilmore Girls.? Sonic Youth members Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, along with their daughter Coco on shakers, will appear on the May 9 season finale of the WB drama, performing an acoustic version of the "Rather Ripped" track "What a Waste."
