Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - "Saw" has officially become a franchise.
The third film in the horror series, "Saw III," is scheduled to hit theatres on October 27, 2006, Lionsgate announced today.
Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed "Saw II," will return to the director's chair. Leigh Whannell and James Wan, who wrote the first two films, will do so again for "Saw III."
"Saw" and "Saw II" have grossed about $250 million worldwide at the box office.
?Yes, there will be more blood,? said Peter Block, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-productions, and Jason Constantine, Lionsgate Senior VP of Acquisitions, in a join statement. ?'Saw III' will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of 'Saw II.'
"We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the 'Saw' franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn.?
The film will be dedicated to "Saw" producer Gregg Hoffman, who passed away in November of last year.
"We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the Saw franchise?s core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the Saw saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud," said producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
