(andPOP) - Another week, another celebrity break-up. This time, it's one of America's most beloved couples, singer Sheryl Crow and cyclist Lance Armstrong.

The couple had been engaged since August and were planning to get married in April in Armstrong's adopted hometown of Austin, Texas. It would have been the Grammy-winner's first marriage and Armstrong's second. He has three children from a previous marriage.

In a joint statement issued to People magazine, which reported the break-up on Friday, Crow and Armstrong said, "After much thought and consideration we have made a very tough decision to split up. We both have a deep love and respect for each other, and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Aside from winning a record seven consecutive Tour de France titles, Armstrong, 34, is known as a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996. The disease went on to spread to his lungs and brain, but Armstrong recovered and went on to become a cycling champion.

Crow and Armstrong began dating in 2003 after meeting at a cycling event.
