(andPOP) - Despite starting his career in the mid-90s, Sean Paul didn't get widely noticed until he started working with other artists.

"When I first started out in Jamaica, I felt like I was on the top of my game. I was trying to bridge the gap and I would reach out to people on tour like Tony Touch and Rahzel," Paul says. "When I was there 10 years ago, I had to wait till 2001 to actually do work with a hip-hop artist or producer or someone at that level that was being noticed more than dancehall."

On "The Trinity," Paul collaborated with Wayne Marshall, and knows how big a help that could be to Marshall's career.

"Wayne Marshall started in 2001 and really became popular in Jamaica in 2002 and 2003. Relatively, it's quicker than a helpful hand can come to him. By me turning around and saying, 'I need to work with Wayne in the game,' in that respect, it's a lot of help, and a lot more than I got."
