Witherspoon Accuses Simpson Of Acting 'Stupid'

(andPOP) - Actress Reese Witherspoon is accusing pop singer Jessica Simpson of cashing in on her dumb blonde routine.

Witherspoon, who broke out in Hollywood after portraying a ditzy blonde in the "Legally Blonde" series, says singer-turned-actress Simpson shouldn't be celebrated for her ignorance on MTV's reality show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."

"Creating a cultural icon out of someone who goes, 'I'm stupid, isn't it cute?' makes me want to throw daggers," Hollywood.com reports Witherspoon as saying.

"I want to say to them, 'My grandma did not fight for what she fought for, just so you can start telling women it's fun to be stupid'."

Simpson makes her big screen debut this weekend as sex kitten Daisy Duke in "The Dukes of Hazzard".

Witherspoon will next be seen in the romantic comedy "Just Like Heaven", due out in September.
