Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - Michael Jackson may have molested children, members of the jury said, but they could not find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Wrapping up almost two years of investigation, and a 14 week trial, the jury found Jackson not guilty of all 10 counts for which he had been charged, including child molestation and conspiracy.
Jackson showed little emotion as he stared straight ahead of him while each count was announced in the Santa Maria court on Monday. When the seventh count was read as being not guilty, Jackson dabbed his eyes with a tissue. When he left the court, he waved but still showed little emotion, almost as if he was stunned. It was a much different scene compared to his arraignment over a year ago, when he jumped on top of his SUV and danced.
This time he went straight into his SUV, passing over 2000 journalists and thousands of fans, and home to his Neverland Ranch.
Jackson is a free man. But his public image has taken a beating. He admitted that he sleeps with young boys, in the same bed.
His lawyer, Thomas Mesereau, said that creepy practice will stop. "He's not going to make himself vunerable to this anymore."
But that may not be enough to win back the public's support; especially after members of the jury have said that they believe he did more than eat popcorn and watch movies while in bed with the children. Jury member Raymond Hultman said Jackson probably molested a child "somewhere along the line."
It took the jury 6 days to deliberate, after handing their verdicts to Judge Rodney S. Melville Monday afternoon.
"Justice was done," was all Mesereau had to say while leaving the court.
