(andPOP) - Scotland will host a concert on July 6 as part of "Live 8," a ring of worldwide concerts being held to raise awareness for African poverty.

The concerts, organized by Bob Geldof, are also being held to urge world leaders attending next month's G8 conference to help with the crisis.

The Scotland concert will feature Dido, Annie Lennox, Travis, Texas, Geldof, the Proclaimers, Embrace, Youssou N'Dour, Natasha Bedingfield, Zutons, Damon Albarn, Snow Patrol and Wet Wet Wet . It is the sixth concert announced, joining London, Paris, Rome, Berlin and Philadelphia. The five others are being held July 2.

Meanwhile, a seventh concert is reportedly in the works. Ottawa may host one of the benefits.

Rumoured performers include the Barenaked Ladies, Bryan Adams, and Our Lady Peace.

Michael Cohl, the Rolling Stones manager who organized the SARS concert two years ago in Toronto, has been tight lipped, but confirmed that he is helping with the organization for the possible July 2 Ottawa concert.

The concert may take place on Parliament Hill, the day after Canada Day celebrations are to be held at the same location.
