Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - Put a comedian on the stand and you'll get jokes. That's exactly what Jay Leno did when he was called to testify at Michael Jackson's child molestation trial in Santa Maria, California, on Tuesday.
Leno was called by Jackson's defense team.
The Tonight Show host said he was contacted by the accuser several times in 2000. He spoke with him on the phone, and said he once heard another voice in the background, which could have been his mother coaching him on what to say.
However, Leno said they never asked him for money.
The defense has been trying to prove that the boy and his family are trying to frame Jackson to win a lot of money.
The boy said earlier in the trial, in front of Judge Rodney Melville, that he only left messages for Leno, never actually speaking to him.
Leno was once contacted by police about the boy and said that he thought they were out to get money.
He testified that he thought the boy's phone calls were scripted. He once called Leno his hero, to which Leno remarked Tuesday, "I'm not Batman." He said it was weird for a young boy to consider an old comedian his hero.
Before he left the stand, Leno said, "We have Renee Zellweger on the show tonight."
Thomas Mesereau Jr. also called Chris Tucker to the stand Tuesday and said he would be the last witness, meaning the trial could be over by Wednesday. Santa Barbara County District Attorney Thomas Sneddon said his rebuttal would go until Thursday.
Tucker spoke about his relationship with the boy. He gave them money, bought them clothes, and had them visit him on the set of a movie.
Tucker said he considers Jackson a friend, and he is the one who introduced the boy to Jackson.
Jackson faces 10 counts. He has pleaded not guilty to all 10.
